Well, Japan over Cameroon is really the first surprise to me. If they couldn't break down the Japanese defense, hard to imagine they'll do it against Netherlands and/or Denmark.

I know there's the stat about losing your first game, but I'll still be surprised if Japan advanced. I can see them finishing 1-1-1.

All of those sources of noise, however, actually ebb and flow with the game on the court/field/ice. These are more like a constant static hiss. That's why they're hated.

ugly first challenge IMO

i don't like slide tackling to begin with, but fully realize it's such a huge part of the game at this level (unfortunately)

Not just a quiet word. It was most likely shown at their nightly meeting at the hotel the referees have been staying at, with video, and FIFA instructor saying "We need to cut this stuff out!".

Airhorns are mostly banned. Thundersticks are widely hated. Piped in music stops during play. The buzzing from these horns is constant. It doesn't matter if you're winning, losing, tied or if you don't care...the noise level remains the same.

The Italians are playing just fine. Another Paraguay goal in the second half would be wonderbar. :D

Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world has been subbed off. Has to be an injury, the goal wasn't his fault at all.

Grant Wahl tweeted that it could have been a locker room dust up. Unlikely, but that would be awesome.

Grant Wahl is a journalist in the loosest sense of the word. There's no reason to speculate that.
