Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

My comment before was that you can't make the flawed judgement that Team A beat team B who beat team C therefore that means Team A > Team C. If that is the case Superior should have been national champs last year because they beat St Thomas who beat Amherst.

You can use that logic for a poll IMHO. That's what you have to use to try and compare teams to one another.

I use that type of logic at least. There simply aren't enough games, especially between the western and eastern teams to be able to apply many other formulas for ranking teams in polls.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

For the purposes of the Fan Poll, Holy Cross is not allowed in it. There for is tonights game of Miiddlebury Vs Holy Cross considered an exhibition? I trust if they lose you can not count that or if they win you can not count that either.

First of all, you already know that Midd is up 4-0 after 2 if you are following the fan forum. Once again nbound you are trying to impart your will on the poll. Simply let the "Fans" decide what they want and quit trying to manipulate the poll as you have been trying desperately over the last few days. :D

awe.... now you are making me feel bad:rolleyes: . Thought it was a fair question. I Should have thought of it prior to tonights game. Should it be counted or not, that's all I'm asking.

it could be taken into consideration...just remember HC's record is inflated because they play in the ECAC east :P

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

HC --- Big Canadian girls playing a physical game...they had been undefeated at home -- going 6-0 and had been undefeated overall until they ran into Trinity 2-4 and just lost to St. Anselm's 3-5 -- and one early season tie with Norwich

..still a darn good team with some ups and downs --

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I still do not believe Lake Forest to be a Western Power.....they have not survived the NCHA to the tournament yet.

For a fan poll the fans should decide using whatever criteria they desire. IMHO it is OK to exclude HC from a ranking, but other teams results against them should matter. What better way to compare Midd or Trinity to Manhattanville than to compare how each did against HC?

Agreed. They have maybe one or two good players but there's no way they will stay in 1st place. I haven't seen all the teams play this year but they impressed me the least. Our girls out-hustled them and I thought LF's defense was pretty weak. Lots of turnovers and passes to Adrian players. Great for us, though:D

I'm not sure who is a Western Power. As Gojackets has said, the West keeps beating up on one another and it seems like any given day, a team can win or lose.

But I think my Bulldogs will prove they can rise to the challenge down the stretch!!

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I've decided taht Adrian needs to host an 8 team tournament next year over winter break

Adrian
Gustavus
Superior
River Falls
Plattsburh
Elmira
RIT
Middlebury/Amherst

1st Round
Adrian vs Midd/Amherst

In a perfect world that'd be outstanding. But obviously its a pipe dream.

Even if Adrian was willing to host it, Midd and Plattsburgh would have to give up their Panther-Cardinal Classic they switch hosting every season and I doubt they'll be willing to do that.

Maybe instead of inviting Elmira or Amherst next year, Plattsburgh will invite a western power or two?. It would once again be nice but we probably won't see it.

Say What? Why do you all make decisions so darn difficult? Just pick your top ten and call it good! No more wishee-washee, mealy-mouse, do I or don’t I, hand-wringing, dry mouth, heart palpitating, fact-checking selections!!! Just pick’em. Do it and be done with it. If it were me, I’d say definitely include the results against non-D-III teams in your rational for your rankings. Why?? Because the NC$$ does in their Secondary Criteria for determining at-large teams for the National Championship. Part of their evaluation process is to look at teams:
---Results versus common non D-III opponents
---Overall win-loss percentage
---Results versus all common opponents
---Win-loss percentage during the last 25% of the season

Ps: if I were ranking today, I’d have Chatham unero numero 1. Why, because they beat Oswego who beat Buffalo State who beat Connecticut College who beat Bowdoin who beat Hamilton who tied Amherst! Ta Da!!!! And that’s probably a good reason I don’t submit rankings anymore.:D

Say What? At which point if I were Coach Palkowski or Laughlin or Cranston or Ninnemann or Carroll, either individually or as a group, I'd send Houle a pretty picture of a finger with the comment, "If your so big and oh so great, come WEST this year and proove it some place other than your own back yard!!!" Now that's a pipe dream.:D  :)

I'm PRESUMING that UWSP and Lake Forest must have gotten byes for the preliminaries and will face the two remaining highest seeds, with the winners squaring off for the chanpionship:D

And just a side thought. Besides the normal Houle response of "You can't beat us here, so why should we come there?!", Houle will also mumble something about the inability of his poor State School girl's hockey team funding such a trip. So here is the solution. :D
A joint J-Term course sponsored by the History Department and the Athletic Department (specifically for women's hockey players) entitled "The History and Culture of Midwestern Hockey and Their Rinks". Course cirriculum:
1. Study and discussion of pictures of real rinks in actual buildings throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
2. Myths surrounding the ability of western girls skating backwards.
3. Folklore - "The State of Hockey" it's nottttttt Minnesota
4. Imagination - Why Wisconsin, a state with ONE girl's high school hockey team, thinks they play power hockey
5. Field Trip (Paid by the School of Liberal Arts) -- A eleven day trip to Minnesota/Wisconsin to play (toy with) one D-III hockey team in each state. Trip schedule includes a day for travel, followed by 3 days of team skills exhibitions and practice, first game day, a day for travel, followed by another 3 days of team skills exhibitions and practice, final game day and day for travel.
Course and trip will validate, demonstrate and put to rest any idea other than real hockey is played in the EAST, real coaches coach in the EAST and true Champions/Championships reside in the EAST!!
But again that's just a pipe dream!!!!

Being you left it wide open for somebody to jump in ....I'll bite.

Didn't the East try that last year??? They sent the Powerhouse eventual National Champion Amhest out here. (Amherst who Defeated two-time national champion Elmira College in overtime of NCAA Championship Finals, 4-3, to mark program’s first national title
Defeated three-time national champion Middlebury in national semifinals, 3-2
Defeated two-time defending national champion Plattsburgh State in national quarterfinals, 4-1, marking the first win over the Cardinals in program history) Then they went home with 2 losses losing to GAC 3-0 then St Thomas 2-1 . Heck they never even made it to the NCHA who usually dominates the MIAC. Should probably make that a 5 or 6 game swing so they (whoever you send) at least has a better chance of going home without their tail tucked between their legs.

If you are referring to where real women's hockey, D1, is played, and not the D3 JV version played across the country, That would be the West where their big sisters have won EVERY NCAA FF Championship that has been played. JV D3 Champions always in the East, Thats true for now. Thanks for the invite, your friend nbound:D
