Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Code:
1 Amherst ( 9) 11-1-4 141 1
2 Plattsburgh ( 4) 12-1-1 134 3
3 Elmira ( 2) 13-4-1 124 2
4 Trinity 14-1-2 92 5
5 RIT 10-4-3 83 4
6 Wis.-River Falls 10-3-3 69 7
7 Middlebury 9-4-1 63 6
8 Gustavus Adolphus 8-3-2 45 9
9 Manhattanville 11-4-1 24 10
9 Wis.-Superior 9-4-2 24 8
Others Receiving Votes: St. Thomas 8, Lake Forest 6, Norwich 6, Wis.-Stevens Point 5, Neumann 1

This weeks USCHO poll.

I still don't see how RIT is that high...again..have beaten no one. At least the west teams have beaten eachother. RIT gets credit for losing to their other conference members. Same with Middlebury.

Will be interesting to see what happens if Superior beats gustavus tomorrow...especially if they sweep Adrian...or more interesting if they dont.

Wasn't Stevens point ranked last week? I'm trying to figure out how Superior and Stevens Point split and both teams fall in the rankings. Dare I say Go-J and I agree on something?!? :D

As they like to say out east, "forget about it" it's an eastern thing you westerners don't understand. You don't have to beat better .500 teams, just lose to the ones ranked above you and everything will be ok.

UWS vs GAC, whoever loses drop out of the poll because they lost to a ranked above .500 Western team. If they sweep Adrian(a contending Western team) They will stay the same because they were supposed to win and this ain't the east. If they split they will still probably drop out. Eastern rulings apply no matter what

No Stevens Point was in the "others" category. I think they had 5 votes last week too. Odd that they wouldn't pick any up. I'm really not sure why St Thomas is getting votes...because they lost to River Falls in OT? Maybe they are getting some of the RIT medicine

ha yeah. Either way it's weird stevens point wouldn't get some more recognition in some way. and the RIT medicine is apparently pretty strong. Get down in a game and just start hacking and throwing girls down to the ice.

I have to give Plattsburgh the edge this week -- they've been taking care of their business lately (but I still think Amherst will be the stronger team at the finish -- and that a few ties is a "mid-season slump" for them)

Good point, I didn't really think about the fact that they've only lost to teams higher than them. To be fair, other than the 2nd Plattsburgh game they have been right with the teams, even though they did lose to them it wasn't by that much. They also have the 5th highest RPI and are 5th on the Rutter. They have beaten the teams below them and lost, for the most part, close games to the teams above them. Where as some teams have lost to teams below them.

So I have decided to amend my poll for this week.

I still don't see how RIT is that high...again..have beaten no one. At least the west teams have beaten eachother. RIT gets credit for losing to their other conference members. Same with Middlebury.

I would like to take this time to point out that they stomped a no one team named Adrian which has in turn beaten River Falls and Lake Forrest who have beaten Superior and GAC. So by that logic I would like to conclude that River Falls, Lake Forrest, Superior, and GAC are nobody.

Also I can understand putting RIT lower, it makes sense in several ways...just saying.

Chatham also beat Oswego who beat Potsdam who beat Buffalo State Who beat Utica who tied Plattsburgh and beat Neumann who tied RIT

THerefore Chatham = Plattsburgh, RIT

Also neither Lake Forest nor River Falls has beaten GAC

Fine, here is another one for you. Plattsburgh, Trinity, RIT, and Middlebury are the only ranked teams that haven't lost to a team of a lower rank.

RIT and middlebury have also not beaten a team of a higher rank.

   UWRF climbs from 10 to 6 by beating St Thomas who hasn't won a quality game since 12/05/09 against GAC., and sweeping Finlandia???
GAC climbs from 8 to 5 by beating St Mary whose claim to fame is beating St Catherine and UWEC?? and sweeping St Benedict whose 2-11-0
Lake Forest 5-1-2 against 500 teams and 13-2-2 overall drops from 7 to 9 by sweeping Marian??? Was it because they did not run up the score?

PLLEEEASE let's hear some reasoning on this.

First of all Mania is just tallying the polls that came in, so don't shoot the messenger. Mania thanks for doing this week in and week out.

I have watched this thread over the last three years, and this years poll is tough for everyone. The top 4 teams seem to be consistently doing well and the losses they have are amongst themselves, with a few errant ties. Until any of those teams get beat by someone below, those standings probably will not change much.

The last 6 spots are up for grabs, and some will probably fall out of top 10 depending on how they do over the next month. You can make a case for any of these teams from 5-10 and not be right or wrong. Don't worry where they are now, the remainder of the regular season will most likely solidify the standings, and of course there will be some angst after the NCAA picks the at-large bids. But that is the fun and the anxiety of these polls.

The question was not directed at Mania,(also thanks for doing the poll) but at pollsters in general. It looks like the Western rankings are based on guess work instead of being performance based without much reasoning in between. If they had beaten Eastern powers(I know, I know, that wouldn't happen:D ) I could understand the rise in the polls. The rise and fall of the Western teams positioning just doesn't seem to hold any merit. Heck, I even have the top 4 Eastern teams in the top five of my poll.

If I had to guess, three more people voted this week, and my guess is they may lean a little more to the west....and it is a fan opinion poll, nobody said it was perfect. I agree that some polls are based on popularity/guess work versus performance, and there is nothing we can do. That is okay, and as a result, who knows what the poll will look like next week, but that is what keeps the banter going, which is great!!

People on here in general don't care for the west or know anything about it. we're familiar with the East because we are told constantly that they are better and how much better they are.

The one that I did not get was River Falls moving up as much as they did, and jumping Lake Forest. My thought is that people are familiar with the River Falls name, but not with Lake Forest, so they jump lake forest up. You also had 3 more people voting this week then last, which could account for the change.

People want to give Midd andRIT all the credit in the world for not beating anybody good, but discredit UWS, RF, LF etc for splitting with teams that are ranked and good. Once again, Midd and RIT are household names out west where the schools I listed aren't.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Thats not true if you look at where they were ranked when the game was played. Trinity was ranked below Middlebury before they beat them. Therefore Middlebury has lost to a lower ranked team.

My comment before was that you can't make the flawed judgement that Team A beat team B who beat team C therefore that means Team A > Team C. If that is the case Superior should have been national champs last year because they beat St Thomas who beat Amherst.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

RIT and Middlebury have more than one chance to beat the Elmira's,Plattsburgh,Trinity and Amherst of the world.
They are 0-9-3 Not worthy of being in top 5...Sorry.
They are still top 10 teams...Just should be closer to 10 than 5.
