scheduling has a lot to do with how many games against .500 teams you play
and performance has everything to do with how many .500 teams there are.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

RIT and Middlebury still ranked? Really?

Both have lost to who they should have(the better teams)

The combined record of opponents in which RIT won is 46-58-12
The combined record of opponents in which Middlebury won is 35-61-15

Hardly impressive unless you call losing to good teams impressive.

Sure they haven't won their games so far against the big teams but they have been competitive in every one. Especially on Middlebury's end.

And just because the western teams beat up on each other week in and week out. Does that mean they are all good teams and on par with the top eastern schools, or are they all just collectively medicore?

Arguably your best team (at least one of them) Lake Forest lost to UMass-Boston. Who isn't even in the top 10 eastern programs.

Who also beat Norwich...who I'm guessing will show up multiple times in top 10 polls.

I'll buy Middlebury should be ranked because they played those teams close..they should not b e top 5...Maybe #10

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I'm using nbound's hard work on the .500 team bandwagon to post a poll that would be impossible for me to figure out on my own otherwise.
1. Platty
2. Trinity
3. Elmira
4. Amherst
5 UWRF
6. Lake Forest
7. M'Ville
8. Middlebury
9. UWS
10 Norwich
I put Middlebury higher because they got their coach a 400th career win this weekend -- the most in women's hockey. That kind of "game" recognition becomes a winning tradition and attitude and translates into drive and motivation and wins when it counts. I think the .500 roster will better reflect the rankings over the next month.

And how far should Amherst be dropped for only tying instead of beating Hamilton a team that is somewhere below a top 15 eastern team? Without showing favoritism the western teams are ranked about where they should be.

nbound.....relax already.....this is a "FAN OPINION POLL". Until Western and Eastern teams play on a regular basis (not anytime soon), it is fun to see the diversity of the opinions. You certainly are no expert, so stop trying to jam your opinion down everyone's throat.

The only ranking that really matters is at the end of the year, and we are still 6+ weeks away. I look forward to everyone's rankings this week, and watching the rest of the season unfold.

Don't have to be thin skinned.... Just having fun and providing facts for your enlightenment..... who has more fun than people?:D

I'm partial to statistical evidence. To that end, I'm going with the Rutter Computer Ranking. I know, I know....I lack imagination and creativity! But, it's hard to argue with statistics.

1 Plattsburgh
2 Amherst
3 Elmira
4 Trinity
5 RIT
6 Middlebury
7 Holy Cross
Rutter says '7,' but I don't consider them if they can't be included in the FF.
7 Manhattanville
8 Gustavus Adolphus
9 Wis-River Falls
10 Lake Forest
