Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Basically...this is impossible with the results across the country this weekend.

Plus no one is giving Superior much credit, so I'm gonna throw em in at number 1.

Middlebury has no business bein top 5 people.

Hdubs, 5_4...why don't you post a poll instead of criticizing everyone elses???

Alright...Just didn't see where Superior would come from seeing how they have 3 losses to not so great teams. But here's my poll...

1)Amherst
2)Plattsburgh
3)Elmira
4)Trinity
5)Middlebury
6)RIT
7)UWRF
8)Norwich
9)Manhattanville
10)Lake Forest

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

With the exception of Amherst which is # 1 in the country and took 3 of 4 points from Midd, nobody has had a tougher schedule especially since the new year. Midd played Amherst (#1) twice, lost by 2 in one game and tied other game, Elmira (#2) lost in OT, Platts (#3) game was tied with under 3 minutes to go, Trinity (#5) lost in OT on a penalty shot.

They have yet to beat a team anywhere near the top 10, top ten in the East even. Thats great that they played all those teams, doesn't change the fact they didn't beat any of them.

Face it, maybe Middlebury isn't as good this year? From where I'm sittin, if they do not win the NESCAC tourney, they are not in the NCAA's.

I agree that the western teams keep shooting themselves in the foot. 1 point on the week for River Falls is really bad, Lake Forest should have swept Adrian...not barely squeek out a split.

Yes, Lake Forst lost to that same Umass-Boston team that your 8th ranked Norwich team did. Problem is Lake Forest had a 20+ hour boss ride to get there as opposed to the 2 hr trip Norwich had.

Hmmm 2 of 3 three losses are to your number 7 and number 10 team. Throw the Concordia tie at me and I'll throw back Plattsburghs tie to Utica and RIT's tie to Neumann, Trinity's tie to Hamilton, Norwich's tie to Salve, loss to UMB(superior's loss to Conc-Moor)

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Let me see if I got this straight.......Norwich drops out of the top 10 because they lost to UMASS,..... M"VILLE ties NEC and then loses to Norwich who lost to UMASS .....Does that mean M"VILLE drops out of the top 5 as well???:D Where do Norcwich and M"ville stand now? How silly of me:)

Mville definitely not a top 5 team.Agreed. But please no more Lake Forest talk they lose to Adrian who got killed out east. Lets face it the West is weak and the East has more parity than ever.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

So, help me out with the West teams then, Go-J.
I thought LF was a horse I could ride to the finish, but they just stalled at the gate this w/e. UWRF has all this street cred but can't seem to hold up its winning percentage, and I can't pick Superior away from GAC and St. Kates and Eau Claire even.
I see total dominance out East with Amherst and Platty and Elmira/RIT/Midd/Trinity all seem to be in a pack by a goal or two.

Perhaps we should limit it to a top 5 poll, or extend it to 15 as one poster just did to include all the variables that the West presents this year. We just need to see who wins their conference and hosts and should be playing hot in March because it doesn't look like there is a clear, consistent winner out there.

.

A goal or two...a goal or two and Superior is either undefeated or .500, Stevens Point is a 1 loss team, River Falls is undefeated, Lake Forest has 1 loss....blah blah blah. A goal or two changes everything for everybody. Except RIT and USM who blank teams 16-0 :) :) :) (that was a joke, don't go overboard.)

Superior beat GAC, if they do it again, then that should clear it up. I think the only safe bet is that you can take St. Kate out of the picture, however, them and Middlebury have the same results against ranked opponents, and they have a better win percentage so I'm thinking they should be top 2, but alas, there name isn't Middlebury and all that that brings with it.

The next two weekends will either clear the west up, or muddy it even more. This weekend u got superior/stevens point; next tuesday Superior at GAC, the follwoing weekend Adrian @ Superior, and River Falls at Point, If Superior or Point go thru those two weeks unbeaten...that should give us a clear western number 1, esp if UWS beats GAC. Worst case scenario...all aforementioned series end in splits and GAC/UWS ties....then who the ****** knows.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

It is too bad that GA did not win the West last year, as you could have easily justified NCAA out West last year. This year, even though it will go out West most likely, their representation will be tough, unless someone really steps up their game out there.

Gustavus Adolphus hosts 2010 Division III women's ice hockey championships.

You heard it here first:cool:

OK, I'll buy that... Go-J, here's a man with clear direction. I just need a bandwagon.
I think that would be excellent reconciliation for last year's mis-step on their part. Hockey Gods like parity and payback.

I'm not sold on Superior anymore than I can shake that a one goal difference does make all the difference in a W-L, but doesn't necessarily show the caliber of the team. The qualities of the West teams, and not their W-L records by one goal are what I am wondering about. If I play a team 3 times and lose by one goal each time, but come the playoffs -- guess what? I beat them by one goal -- who is the better team and goes forward. It's not fair, necessarily but it happens every year and as the season progresses November and December and January losses fall further into the distant past.

I don't really see what your trying to say. So if an eastern team loses multiple games by one or two goals, then they are still a good team. A western team loses 3 games buy 1 or two goals and they are questionable?

Now you say i know nothing about the east...lets educate about gustavus and the west. Had Amherst beat Middlebury in the NESCAC finals last year..then 3 western teams are in, Gustavus hosts. Nothing NCAA could do about the outcome of that game. On the other hand...Gustavus over the past 3 years has entered the NCAA's combined 72-5-4. They have never made it out of the first round. Don't make me calculate out NCHA vs MIAC results.

If Gustavus wins the MIAC, which is a big if, I don't think they will be the #1 seed in the west, let alone host the FF.

a loss is a loss even against top ranked teams. I did not know we were supposed to ranking teams by who they have lost to. So you rank Middlebury at #5 for losses to all teams above .500 except UMB their only above .500 victory?? Think about it, at #5 when their highest quality win is against UMB. Superior at least has 4 victories against teams with above .500 records

1) you prolly know more about the East than I do, but if all the champs have come from ECAC-W and NESCAC over the years, how can you wave a 70-5-4 record from the West at the East as justification for higher rankings? It seems like the AL East and the AL West in baseball. Hardly the same pool of parity.

3) I'd like to rank some West teams, but their splits and mis-steps confuse me more than a tight contest between Elmira/Amherst, and just like baseball, they will meet again to help determine the series. We don't have enough 3-game series (and inter-divisional play) in hockey is what I'm saying.

4) Amherst bested Midd 1-0-1 in their series, and so, like Lake Forest over UWRF, should remain ranked over the other throughout the season (having played twice), Platty over Elmira (twice) -- the same. For the other (unfinished) series: I am not going to throw an Eastern NESCAC team under the bus for losses to #1 & #2 & #3 in the country (right now). RIT would get the same consideration playing in ECAC-W (as Trinity should playing in NESCAC), but Manhattanville doesn't play in a tougher division and would have less lee-way (recordwise).

I'd run the W-L records for the ECAC-W and NESCAC teams and see if they mean anything in a championship year, but I suspect it would tell me that they were as dominant as 75-5-4 and won 2-3 championships in the process. So... as with real estate (and bars/restaurants), it seems to come down to location, location, location.

So when Gustavus runs the table beating St. Catherine (2), Superior, and Stevens Point will you think the same thing? ;)

Especially once all the NCHA teams are down beating up on each other?

I think my opinion of St Kate has been pretty clear.

They already lost to Superior. IF GAC runs the table, and Superior runs the table with that being their only loss. I think it would be in Superior based on SOS..maybe results against ranked.

Or in the 5-2 split, they would play in the quarterfinal to see who host(s)??
