Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Hardly the same pool of parity.
Platty over Elmira (twice) -- the same. For the other (unfinished) series: I am not going to throw an Eastern NESCAC team under the bus for losses to #1 & #2 & #3 in the country (right now). RIT would get the same consideration playing in ECAC-W (

.

and just to show you that I'm playing attention, I was willing to throw Elmira under said bus after their two extremely close and hard fought losses to Platty and I would sure be feeling foolish and being razzed for slipping them back into my top ten under the cover of darkness.

HOw, by the W-L reckoning, does St. Kate's not get ranked? What am I missing? Name recognition?

As I said somewhere else...they have the same record against ranked opponents as Middlebury does. However they are usually a crappy team, therefore as soon as they lose a game they go out the window.

Unlike Middlebury they have had an incredibly weak schedule and will probably show that they are in reality a middle of the pack MIAC team in the next few weeks.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

1: Elmira
2: Plattsburgh
3: Amherst
4: Trinity
5: RIT
6: Middlebury
7: UW - River Falls
8: Superior
9: Gustavus Adolphus
10: Norwich

I'll calculate the poll in an hour or so

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Fan Opinion Poll Tuesday 1-19-10

Rank | Team | (1st Votes) Total Pts | Previous Rank

1. Amherst (9) 123 1
2. Plattsburgh (1) 113 3
3. Elmira (2) 110 2
4. Trinity 90 6
5. RIT 68 4
6. Middlebury 52 5
7. Lake Forest 39 9
8. Gustavus Adolphus 29 NR
9. Superior (1) 27 NR
10. River Falls 24 8

Norwich 18, Manhattanville 11, St. Kate's 7, Eau Claire 3

13 voted in this poll and 11 voted in the last poll

I would like to note that this is a top 10 poll. Anything past 10 will not be accepted. Although I suppose if you want to include more teams we can keep with the scoring system and start giving teams negative points.

On a personal note I find it interesting that Lake Forrest moves up after squeaking by Adrian on Saturday and getting soundly beaten on Sunday. Also I suspect that Superior might not have made the top 10 if it weren't for the first place vote.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

You won't believe what I found in an over ripe berry patch. With my bifocals on upside down I was lucky to find it at all.:D It was a list of the top 15 in the country! Scheduling does play a big factor. Counting only games played against teams at .500 or better. The East still has the best teams over all. No surprise there.:) as of 1/18/10

1. Elmira 7-3-1 15 pts
2 Lake Forest 5-1-2 12 pts
3 Platts 5-1-1 11 pts
4 Trinity 5-1-1 11pts
5 Amherst 4-1-3 11pts
6 UWRF 4--2-3 11pts
7 GAC 4--3-2 10 pts
8 M'Ville 4-4-0 8 pts
9 norwich 3-2-2 8 pts
10 UWS 3-2-1 7pts
11 RIT 2-2-3 7 pts
12 UTICA 3-4-1 7 pts
13 St Olaf 3-4-0 6pts
14 UWSP 2-3-2 6pts
15 St Thomas 2-3-2 6pts
16 Middlebury 2-3-1 5pts

sorry if I missed anybody

15 UMass 2-5-0 4 pts

SOS! SOS! Stop Obfuscating Statistics (about strength of schedule)

But seriously, thanks for the number-crunching and rankings that are illustrative.

so the games against (.500) range from as little as 6 to as many as 11 -- how many games in hand do the 6-gamers get credit for? I think it just shows that Amherst, Plattsburgh and Elmira are over the hump and should be mopping up the sub-.500s to the finish. Plenty to ponder and discuss -- I think it certainly favors and highlights the strong conferences by the teams represented.

Sorry UMass you're out, I forgot about St Thomas. They have 6pts not including results from tonight

Looks to me like it is Amherst #1, and the next 9 will be a free for all over the next couple of months. Amherst will not face any of these teams again, so unless they are upset, there is no way they will move from the #1 spot. Congrats to them, and best of luck to the other 9+ teams. You all will have to bring your A game to take one of the last 6 spots for the NCAA's!! Anyone who stumbles from this point on will be shooting themselves in the foot.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

So just got done with a fresh batch of plattsberries:

Adding points taken from eachother and mutual opponents RIT and Middlebury: Amherst 10 of 14, Platty 10-12, Elmira 7-14.

Add a recent tie for Amherst to an under .500 team and a tie for Plattsburgh to a team over .500 and the reasoning that a couple close 1 goal games are enough to cancel out 2 head to head wins for Platty over Elmira in previous rankings, and the berries reason that Plattsburgh retakes the #1 spot with Amherst falling to second and Elmira rounding out third.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Safe to say RIT will have to win conference tourney to get in NCCA's- They had 6 cracks at a top 10 team and failed to pick up a win. Not sure what there problem is. They outshoot everyone and cant win. It's a shame cause I think there a good team. Don't even know if there worthy of a being ranked in the top 10. There wins are not impressive.

Much like Middlebury

I think we're seeing that the 2nd pool C spot really could go to anyone at this point in time.

Their problem is that all there shots are to the body of the goalie. Rarely is it an overtly challenging save. At this point I don't think they deserve to make the ECAC-West playoffs.

Its usually better to wait until after todays games are played today to post your poll.

You have Mville vs Salve today, elmira could lose, river falls could lose...etc.

How does River Falls go from your 10th place team to your 6th place team after barely getting by a weak St Thomas team and beating Finlandia. While Lake Forest sweeps Marian and drops a spot?? Superior splits with Stevens Point and goes from 6th to out?

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Because everybody else in front of them lost......also in my opinion for this week whoever wins man or sal will not be top 10 and if RF or Elmira loses it would mean the hell has frozen over and the vikings might actually win the super bowl

Lake Forest did not lose and they jumped them.

Well we better prepare for the freezing of hell :) As Favre is going to teach Brees a lesson today
