Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

A little early to vault Elmira over Plattsburgh based on a 1-goal mutual opponent, doncha think? Plattsburgh still had Elmira twice head-to-head and I think that will stand up longer than how amherst matched up against each team on any given night. I understand the enthusiasm for Elmira based on two nice wins this w/e, and that might even them up in the NCAA rank, but it doesnt give them a conference leg up. I'll wait to see how they do with Amherst on the 20th. Platty still has the #1 spot if Amherst doesnt'

I basically look at is who is doing the best right now...I look at my poll from last time and change it according to what happened....clearly those 4 teams are going to be the top 4...how can you rank Amherst above Elmira when Elmira beat them head to head on neutral ice? Amherst beat Plattsburgh, Elmira beat Amherst...therefore Elmira > Plattsburgh at this point in time.

Elmira's two losses to Plattsburgh were early in the season, on the road, and extremely close...At home Elmira might win those games.

And Elmira did beat Plattsburgh twice on home ice last year. But this year, they had to play them on the road. I don't think simple analogies can justify ranking Elmira over Plattsburgh. Elmira outshot Midd 23-21 and beat them 3-2 in OT. Plattsburgh outshot Midd 35-18 and won 4-1. Say what you want about the empty netters. But Plattsburgh losing to who was at the time No. 2 by one goal and Elmira beating who was No. 2 by one goal doesn't seem to justify ranking Elmira higher to me.

Wouldn't go as far as saying Amherst dismantled the Cards, but I give up, I can't sort out the top three... all these games were only decided by one goal (if you don't count the two empty netters that Platty had against Midd)... certainly makes for a much more interesting season.

Not sure how Norwich can be left off of this totally??? They have lost only 1 game (granted it was a beating from Manhattanville) but to include Lake Forest who got beat by UMB 3-1 and leave Norwich off after they blasted UMB 6-0 and outshoot them 41 to 15 seems a bit odd. They both only have 1 blemish on their records and the level of competition is really no better for Lake Forest or any of the teams you have listed under them then what Norwich has faced. Anyone want to take a poke at why so many are leaving Norwich off of their polls and including the likes of Lake Forest, River Falls and St. Kates???????

OK, maybe my hyperbole got carried away, but the 28-10 shot disparity in favor of Amherst was not, in my opinion, deceptive. As much as Platty dominated Midd during the first period of their game, Amherst did that to Platty for three periods.

you point out the Norwich shot disparity against UMB, so you obviously think there is a link between shot disparity and ranking teams. If so, you must consider the Lake Forest-UMB shot disparity which was also 40-something to teens something. As for St. Kates, I really don't see them beating Gustavus or St. Tommy, but I feel compelled to reward them based on what they've done so far. I still think RF is going to catch fire soon. I like Norwich, sorry to offend you, I'll put them in next week.

8) Norwich
9) Lake Forest
10) Wisconsin-River Falls

It is my feeling that Elmira has earned the #1 spot with their two wins this weekend. I think Amherst has a better team, but they go another round 1/20 out in Pine Valley, so we shall see. Then again, the Eagles visit the Tigers for two this weekend...still a long way to go, lots of miles and exciting action left!

People are giving St. Kates way too much credit for their record at this point intime without realizing who've they've played. As I said before, the only team they have played with a winning record beat them. I know that Lake Forest is really good...yes they lost to UMB--in all reality that game means nothing...as far as the NCAA is concerned Lake Forest is undefeated still. Not to mention they hadn't played in nearly a month and traveled 20 hours by bus to get to the game. IF Lake Forest makes it thru the regular season with 1 or 2 losses in NCHA play, and lose in the O'Brien cup, they will be in the playoffs. There are a lot of good teams in the NCHA right now and they beat the crap out of eachother every weekend, bringing their records down. Imagine if Platty, Elmira, and RIT were in a conference with other teams that could compete with them..say Amhert, Middlebury, Norwich even....It's much easier to get thru the ECAC west with 2 or 3 losses than itis the NCHA, where the majority of teams are competitive with eachother. Look at Gustavus for instance, the NCHA dominates the MIAC in interconference play every year, GAC comes out undefeated, but doesn't do jack in the playoffs. People get all over the western teams for making these trips out East and losing....how many eastern teams make the return trip? Thats why i'm interested to see a western frozen four. To see what happens to these best teams in the world, when they have to travel across the country, at least they get the luxury of being flown.

I also just do not think that the ECAC-E is that strong...and am not willing to rank two teams from that conference right now. Norwich's SOS is much lower than LFC, or UWRF(especially if you only consider D3 games). Add into that the way they got manhandled bye Mville and they are out of my top 10

In reality...Plattsburgh beat Middlebury 2-1, taking away the two empty netters, on a late game goal, fairly similar to winning in OT. These 4 teams were the top 4 b4 the tournament, Elmira won the tourney, they should be #1

You did not offend me at all I was just asking a question. As for shot disparity and rankings that was never implied and only someone who has never played the game or knows nothing about the game would think that. I was just pointing out the shot disparity to show that it was totally lopsided in Norwich's favor....much the way I am sure that LFC dominated....the glaring difference in the 2 games was that Norwich outshot and outscored UMB whereas despite the fact that LFC thoroughly outshot UMB they did not do what it takes to win a game and that is outscore the other team. It is the only common opponent that the 2 teams share at this time and I was just pointing out how odd it was that Norwich was not ranked and LFC was ......nothing implied, just an observation.

Here is my poll, I will be posting the overall poll momentarily.

1: Plattsburgh
2: Elmira
3: Amherst
4: Middlebury
5: Manhattanville
6: RIT
7:Norwich
8: UW - River Falls
9:Lake Forrest
10: Trinity

Trinity's result against Hamilton is confusing so I wasn't sure if I should put them a little higher. This weekend should clear up quite a few things.
