Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Not making excuses but those teams didn't travel 10,000 miles/16 hrs on a bus the day before either.

Lake Forest does generally do the start strong/fade late thing, but they usually have played a lot of games against the cupcakes from the MIAC and not as many higher caliber games. Its a dumbfounding loss, kinda like the Superior/CUW tie. They'll spank Bowdoin tomorrow to redeem themselves...sorry pb2!

Not sure they're going to spank anyone after watching them play today.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Check out out the shots on goal. Clearly, Hallet, UMB's goaltender stole the game for UMB !!! Did you say the same thing when Amherst went out to the midwest last season and got humbled by St. thomas and Gustavus? hmmmmmmmm

I watched this game and the shots on goal differential is very deceiving. Many of Lake Forest's shots came on power plays. With the exception of a few minutes here and there and the last couple of minutes in the third period I thought UMass Boston played a very solid game. Hallet did have a very good game in net as well.

And if you want an objective opinion from someone who saw Amherst play out west last year, they were clearly outplayed by Gustavus but I wouldn't call losing by one goal to St. Thomas as a humbling experience. It certainly wasn't Amherst's best outing but they obviously took something away from those losses and turned it into a national championship!

With apologies to Lake Forest, even Colby beat UMass Boston, and Colby just lost one and tied one with two of the very worst teams in the country -- St. Michael's and Chatham.

Judging by todays game...bus legs could have been to blame, but I still think the UMB goalie had a lot to do with it. On the power play or not...they still put up 44 shots...they could have been better shots maybe, but 1 goal/44 shots is a pretty good save %.

Todays game looks like Bowdoin might have controlled, but Wintermute was the wall...and they couldn't solve Herring.

COuple a month off with a 20 hr bus ride and it doesn't equal success!

Now if they lose to Sacred Heart on Tuesday I'll be worried

Might as well, some helpful results were posted over the past week or so.

No offense western fans but after Lake Forrest's showing this weekend I don't really see any western teams being worthy of the NCAA tournament at this point in the season. St. Catherine has a good record but I just don't see a very tough schedule for them.

Should we wait for Amherst/Elmira and Plattsburgh/Middlebury to conclude tonight before voting?

I find that to be apretty bold statement...Did you say that after Amhersts showing last year? If RIT makes a trip out west ever and loses are you going to say the east doesn't deserve a bid?

And correct me if I'm wrong, but that was with both teams' back-up goaltenders in net?

Anyway, I bet everyone who picked Adrian has been unpleasantly surprised with their progress thus far. They certainly haven't been spectacular. It's interesting how this season is playing out. There have been a few surprises! Who would've thought St. Cat's would be on the top of their conference (although, admittedly their schedule hasn't been particularly tough and some tough conference games ahead will tell if they're worthy of that number one spot)?

3 years ago St. Kate's didn't win a single game. Then they went to 9 wins in 07-08, 10 wins in 08-09 and currently have 9 wins this year. If they can get four more conference wins, they should make the play-offs. Sure they have played some easier teams, but consistant wins at the college level are hard to get. Maybe they are the #6 or #7 team in the west right now. Not on the national scene yet though.

I don't think we can really tell much about St. Kates yet. Their opponents have a combined record of 18-34-7. The only team they've played with a winning record is St. Marys at 5-4-1, who they split with.

Let's see where they are at after their next five-River Falls, St. Olaf, and Gustavus

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I just think it's interesting that everyone out East jumps on Lake Forrest's back after they just beat a darn good NESCAC school. When LF outshot UMass but lost 3-1, they sucked and everyone's in an uproar. But when LF beat Bowdoin and got outshot -- they still aren't good enough. So which is more important in you Easterner's eyes? The number of shots or the actual Win/Loss? Because if it's win/loss then I'm pretty sure that LF just beat a darn good team yesterday. If it's shots -- then LF is still a darn good team because they had the same number of shots against UMass that Trinity had, they just couldn't find the back of the net because of the opposing goaltender.

It has nothing to do with making any trips out. The west doesn't even know who their best teams are because they're all busy splitting with each other. Lake Forrest was the only team that wasn't doing that, after losing to Mass-Boston (who is that?) and barely scratching one out over Bowdoin the best in the west (at this point in the season) didn't look too good.

If RIT is the best team in the east at that point and the western teams are dominating the rankings and they lose to a mid pack team then I probably would say that.

I'm not sure if I would consider Bowdoin one of the top teams. Sure they are good, but they haven't really beaten anyone worth mentioning.

A little early to vault Elmira over Plattsburgh based on a 1-goal mutual opponent, doncha think? Plattsburgh still had Elmira twice head-to-head and I think that will stand up longer than how amherst matched up against each team on any given night. I understand the enthusiasm for Elmira based on two nice wins this w/e, and that might even them up in the NCAA rank, but it doesnt give them a conference leg up. I'll wait to see how they do with Amherst on the 20th. Platty still has the #1 spot if Amherst doesnt'
