Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2023-2024

Epic comeback from a 4 1 3rd period deficit. Didn't see that one coming.

It wasn't just that they came back from a 4-1 deficit, it's how FAST they did it. Seriously, if you went to move the laundry at the wrong time in the third you missed the whole comeback.

Sadly I missed the last 2 periods. Sounds like UMD was really mucking it up. Even Harvey lost her composure. Did Ava not stop any she should have? I saw the lucky one off the skate. Apparently 2 were seeing eye goals from the blue line?

As best I recall, two were deflections - one reviewed for possible high-stick, and it was close - and the other was a snipe from outside into the upper 90 during a 4-on-3 UMD power play. Not a lot she could have done.

But it raises a question that has crossed my mind the last week or so: if MJ is going to go with one goalie into the post-season, right now who would it be? Still a couple weeks left for one to 'emerge', I guess.

I suppose they could alternate all the way through to the end, though I never thought of that. They are like 9th and 10th in the nation so they rate almost equivalent to each other. If or when he does pick one, I wonder what the ramifications would be for next season. I don't like complicated goaltender situations.

Apparently the locker room after the 2nd period was pretty epic. From TM's article about the game:

""Between the second and third period, we came together like I've never seen us come together the last two years that I've been here," Simms said. "It was insane. It doesn't matter if it was a league game, playoff game, we knew we were going out there and we weren't going down without a fight.""

I would love to know what actually transpired in the locker-room. Maybe it was one of those season defining galvanizing moments. We shall see, St. Cloud is 2 more of the same types of game they just played. They definitely need to keep their cool. I did watch the 3rd period yesterday, that was fun.

We are at the point in the season where it is not okay simply chalk up a loss as a learning opportunity and try to do better the next time. The team must learn how to deal with situations where there isn’t a next time. If that realization occurred during the second intermission of Saturday’s game, that would be excellent, especially if the idea came from the team and no one from the coaching staff had to point it out.

So the KC rink width is getting shrunk for next season, from 97 to 85. LaBahn is 90 for the record. I am very confident that reducing from 97 to 85 will immensely improve their performances in future fill the bowl games. Seeing as LaBahn sells out every game, I wonder if the women could play more games at the KC to accommodate more fans for the marquis match-ups. Obviously working around the other sports would be a challenge, but if they played the rodents there, how many more tickets could they sell? Over 4000?

Are you forgetting how 'dead' it seemed for the last Fill The Bowl? Stay in LaBahn, and have the LaBahn energy.

Yeah it was bad. I think too many people were there just for the experience. If you had 4,000 hardcores you'd have a pretty rocking atmosphere.

4,000 in the KC doesn't even get close to filling the lower bowl, and as cavernous as that place is 4,000 fans would sound dead unless you gave them all brass instruments and all the brandy they could drink. If you're going to be sliding games over to the KC for non-Fill the Bowl games, the goal has to be to fill the lower bowl, hitting 6500-7000, probably roping off the upper levels to ensure you pack the lower bowl like they do for any women's basketball game right now that doesn't feature Caitlin Clark.

Ok 7000 it is. The question is does the market bear that many participating and enthusiastic fans in the stands? Personally yeah I don't think so.

The UW "Record Book" lists the top ten biggest Kohl Center crowds. The top six are "Fill The Bowl" games, all over 10K. #7 was an exhibition against the 2010 US Olympic team, with MJ coaching and Knight, Duggan, Erika Lawler playing for the US team; 6K. #8 was the first Fill The Bowl; 5400. #9 was the epic 4OT 2007 NCAA quarterfinal vs Harvard; 5100 (God, I wish I'd been there). And #10 was the 2011 NCAA quarterfinal vs Duluth, which - apologies to the east coast teams - was essentially the national championship game; just over 4000 (and I was there). The 'book' doesn't list attendance numbers for games in the year-by-year game-by-game results list.

Todd Milewski's page that shows ticket sold and tickets scanned has a half dozen or so regular season games over the years of 3000 tickets sold, give or take 100.

KK's shot in the overtime was ridonculous. As the play developed you could tell that the St Cloud players got crossed up a bit on who's covering who and she just rocketed it right to the net. Both goal tenders were outstanding.

With the loss of a point here the Badgers don't have a path to at least a share of the regular season title since TOSU is feasting on cupcakes like Wisconsin got to do earlier in the season.

Can someone explain the "points" aspect of other-than-regulation wins? If a team prevails in overtime, does that team get all three points? Or does it get two points--one for the tie and one for the overtime "win"--and the other team gets a point for the tie? But the overtime win is recorded as a win? And if neither team prevails in overtime, does each team get a point for the tie and the shoot-out winner gets the extra point? But the game is recorded as a tie? I am so confused. I tried reading the on-line rules and concluded that someone needs to just explain it to me. It doesn't seem like an overtime "win" is truly a win if the other team still gets a point.

Each conference has their own system for awarding points. In the WCHA a win in regulation is all 3 points. If a game goes to OT each team is awarded 1 points. The winner of the OT or shootout is awarded the third point.
Because Wisconsin only captured two of the three conference points yesterday that puts them out of reach of catching Ohio State as long as the Buckeyes sweep the Mavericks & Tommies.
