Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2023-2024

The only way I could imagine anything from the Helgesen-Gorbatenko-Koslowski line would be for Gorbatenko to be the female Wayne Gretzky or an alchemist. Frankly, if I were her, I would have my request to enter the next portal ready to go.. [/FONT][/FONT]

Usually your ideas are interesting and sometimes in line with mine, but this one is a "holy pump the brakes Batman!" First off, TDM has not verified Vassuer is injured or out nor has he verified Enright is out for the year. It's fun to think about how to fill the spots with D, but to suggest anyone should bail on the program without skating a shift based on a rumor is out there.

If true, I'd hate to waste a year of Potter and Murphy's development playing D to play on the 4th line, which MJ tends to use sparingly against tougher teams. Plus they have Olympic aspirations, and playing F on the 4th line would not help them in this regard either. The Maddy Rowe model is an excellent one to follow.

The 4th line is there to eat a few minutes and not screw up too badly. Last year it accounted for 6 goals on the season

Yeah they only scored 6 goals last year, but the 4th line hasn't necessarily been talented enough to score a lot, nor do they see a lot of ice time. I was hoping this season it would be different, but MJ usually shortens the bench so maybe I was hoping beyond hope. With only 2 games per week and 5 days off between, the 4th line typically is not crucial to keeping the top lines fresh over the length of the season.

So Watts do they have to do to get the PP to be a top 10 unit in the country? It sure would make things easier if they could score at a decent clip on the PP and get the PK back to the top 10 like it used to be. Last year they were 21st on the PP and 19th on the PK. Luckily they only average 6.22 sins per game last year, around 16th lowest in the country.

Mea culpa. Mea culpa. My apologies to everyone who has taken me over the goals for my last post. Upon further reflection, I want to offer the following revisions to my prior comments on the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] FLine.

First, listing the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] line with 1F and 2Ds does not necessarily indicate an actual intent to use them as a line. It is quite possible that it simply is to have all 18 of the remaining uninjured players on the bench in their game uniforms ready to provide respite to the other Fs and Ds or to step in in the event of another injury. That actually is a thoughtful gesture that makes sense. But I sincerely doubt these 3 actually will take the ice as a line.

With respect to Gorbatenko, a number of sources that I have read have expressed positive comments about her potential which I share based on watching her in last summer’s U18 tournament. For me, it therefore would benefit her, and the team, if she were to play as much as possible as a forward on a true FLine this year. With 9 other Fs on 3 lines, this could be achieved by having her sub for a little more than 1 minute per game for each one. Should she develop as hoped, this would be beneficial for Bucky’s prospects for this season, especially if another F were to suffer an injury. It also would be good preparation for her for next season.

So, I see the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] FLine as serving to make backups available to cover multiple contingencies as well as providing opportunities for Gorbatenko to develop as a F. I don’t see it as a way to introduce a new offensive strategy.

Again, my apologies for failing to see a more reasonable explanation.

PS I hope the injuries to Vasseur and Enright respond to treatment so both can join the team on the ice this season. That would be a wish come true.

I think sometimes we have our undies a little tight on this site. It hasn't always been like that, I think it's a shift in attitude towards each other that I have noticed over the last year or so. You are entitled to your opinion.

We all hope the injuries are not long-term and the wheelsnipercelly poster is wrong. Usually that poster catches flack for posting unsubstantiated rumors, though this time no one went down that road.

About 30 hrs to the first line chart posting. That will tell us something.

I watch the MJ press conference and nobody had the balls to ask him about the injuries. I firmly believe he or one of his minions tells the interviewers ahead there's certain things he's not going to talk about.

Game day! We are fortunate to have a forum member on the ground there in Gargoyle. I'm not asking for a lot of information, but I am curious who is on the power plays, who was is killing penalties and who plays on that fourth line and how often are they on the ice. I suppose somebody else who is watching via flohockey can also post this information. I have chosen not to shell out the 30 bucks to watch them this weekend.

Let's go red!

Anticipated lines are

Wheeler O’Brien Simms
Woz Picard L.Edwards
Curl Hall Eden
Helgeson Gorbatenko Kotlowski

Harvey Jungels
Wilgren C.Edwards
Potter Murphy

this is what I am hearing for a lineup tonight. Only a few more hours to see the actual lineup sheet. Go Badgers!

L.Edwards O’Brien Simms
Curl Hall Eden
Woz Picard Wheeler
Helgeson Gorbatenko Kotlowski

Harvey Jungels
Wilgren C.Edwards
Potter Murphy

Going top heavy on the top 2 lines. Interesting.

Gervais starting in goal. I'd guess they'll split time while McNaughton 'gets her feet wet', and then go from there.

And as best I could see on the twitter account video, Curl is (obviously) the captain, but nobody as assistant captain? That's ... unusual.

First out on power play: Eden, Harvey, Curl, Simms, O'Brien. Didn't catch the second PP line out except for Jungels and Wheeler. Old eyes, sorry. We are fast!

Thanks for the info!!!!!!! :)

4 forwards on the PP with all that blue line talent? Wow. 0-3 though. Hopefully we can learn the unit 2 personnel today.

So PK was LE Jungels CE OB and then Harvey Wilgren Eden Curl. I think LE with the big stride and long reach is a good fit on the PK.

Gorbs had 6 (5/1) faceoffs, so the 4th line out a bit. I wonder how they looked? The other C's had 22 (16/6) 15(8/7) (9/5) on faceoffs, so they played half or a 3rd as many shifts it looks like. Picard was only 8-7 on FO's, so room for improvement there.

The radio announcers, who I believe were just the flohockey guys, were meh, though the play by play guy got really excited a bunch of times which was fun. Calling a game on the radio is different that calling it on TV. A radio guy can call a game on TV easy, a TV guy can't call a game on the radio easy. Paul Brown and Brian Posick are great. Rob Vogel does a nice job as well.

The play-by-play guy has done play-by-play on some of the BTN-plus video streams at LaBahn over the last few years; I recognized his "frequent" use of "No good" to tell that a shot had not gone in net, etc. And it was clear that they were not in St Louis, but were just watching the video stream while sitting in a room somewhere in Madison. A way for Big 1070 to hold down costs, but obviously limits what they are able to see.

I was thinking about him getting excited: it seems to me that good hockey-on-radio guys - Posick, Paul Braun, Bob Miller before him, even Reid Magnum - don't get excited very often, and spend much more of their time staying calm and just describing what's in front of them. His excitement yesterday (which felt forced some of the time) just got in his way too often.

That's where I heard that guy! They didn't even announce the scoring half the time. Thank goodness for the Tweeder.

Lines look to be the same for today, except Ava gets the start. UW should just play the game with 6 skaters and no goalie unless on the PK.

6 skaters?

Just leave the goalie in and skate the whole game with 4 skaters. The lion cubs might get to double digits in SOG that way.

The sinners already lead 3-0 in the first period. However they have given up 5 SOG to the lion cubs...

Lines are not the same on the ice today, and not the same as posted. First line: Curl, O'Brien, Eden. Second is usually LE, Hall, Simms. Third is Woz, Picard, Wheeler. Dpairings: Jungels-Edwards, Wilgren- Harvey, Murphy-potter.
