Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2021-2022

It's kind of hard to have it both ways, where you're winning the WCHA Championship in this thread, but lamenting the fact that you have little chance against Muzzy in another.

Welcome to my world, hope vs reality. Reality is they lose to OSU, win game 1 of the ncaa, then lose to the higher seed; they just don't have enough depth. Hope is run the table and are the 2022 National Champions because they have the tourney experience and just enough talent and that carries them.

Hope is I get to watch another game in LaBahn, reality is the next team I see in LaBahn will have a crazy talent freshmen class for me to have the pleasure to watch. Where are my meds anyway?

I still really like Wisconsin’s chance to win the whole thing. Once you get on completely neutral ice in the National Tournament, I believe it’s much harder for teams like Ohio State to keep up their “relentless forecheck” for three full periods and Wisconsin shows that any time they’re given time and space, they can be deadly. OSU always plays with a higher sustained level of energy at home which is completely understandable as they get a packed arena with a crowd that makes noise. Yes, the same as true for LaBahn, but WI’s game isn’t based on such an intense level of energy at all times. They can play more of a finesse game as they have so much more talent.

First, nobody loses to "Bye."

Of course. But for the last FIVE Fridays in a row, Wisconsin has fallen behind 1-0. And in four of those, within the first few minutes and first few SOGs. Do that against Syracuse, and you have a decent chance of coming back; do that against Frankel and Northeastern (for example) and your year might be over. Each of those five weekends, they played much better the second game. So yes, it's weird to think about it this way, but they might actually be better off with a 'warm-up' vs #11, rather than diving straight in against #4.

Great point. Watts would you rather have, a warmup game ahead of the big one on the road or a game without a warmup at home against a warmed up opponent?

Maybe MJ should start the 3rd line against OSU.

With supply chain problems at big box stores these days you probably do have a shortage. You might have a can or two you forgot about out in your shed...

You don't understand my system. I take meds and wash them down with the thinner. I have the thinner, but no meds. There's a lab in Wuhan that tells me they can get them to me quickly and they come with a free pet bat, and free shipping of course. Not sure about hitting the "order" button on that one yet.

About to hit the road for Mpls. At least the first game isn't on a Friday! I wish Woz would be available today but MJ didn't sound optimistic about that possibility during his press conference. I love that this team never gives up, so we'll see what the weekend brings.

Well, 0 for on the pp, hit 2 posts in the 3rd period and don't convert a 2 on 0 in the 3rd period, and both goals allowed on defensive breakdowns. Different game, same results.

Very different game. Other than having no idea how to put the puck into the net, the Badgers were the better team tonight. Having more than four defensemen that are both healthy and trusted might have helped.

Look on the bright side. You get a trip to Boston as the #6 seed and get #11 Syracuse or #10 Clarkson (if the committee decides they don't want a Clarkson- Quinny rematch or maybe UConn if the Committee does not want 5 ECAC teams and only 1 HE team in the tourney) in the QF round and then you get to face Northeastern. The easiest way to another Frozen Four for Wisconsin IMHO. ;-) ;-)

Totally agree that we want to avoid OSU or Minny until the FF. I’ll take my chances with any of the Eastern teams. However it wouldn’t surprise me if we somehow end up in Columbus or Minneapolis next weekend so the NCAA can avoid a WCHA heavy FF

I completely agree with this. I just don't think this short rostered team can win 2 games in a row against top end opponents, even if they get to the FF. Blair would have to be perfect in one game.

I sat next to a Badger fan during last night's game. When asked if there were any obscenities exchange, I replied "Only for his team". He was raging about the way the Badgers played.
They played Ohio State tough, I will give them credit. There were many Gopher fans rooting for Wisconsin(?). If Wisconsin can fight their way through the eastern teams to the final I will say they have overachieved and deserve the preseason expectations everybody had for them.

Get ready for the Badgers to head to Minneapolis. The NCAA does not want to have 3 WCHA teams in the Frozen Four. They will also indicate shorter travel as the reason we get seeded in Minneapolis instead the Northeastern bracket.

No way. Send UW east.

My brother spent a half-dozen years as a radio DJ. He used to say 'you want them to play your record? Give them something to talk about.'

The story lines:
Wisconsin vs Clarkson: the 2020 NCAA game that wasn't. Set for March 14, 2020, cancelled on March 12, 2020. Watts and Lonergan, teammates at BC, now up against one another.

Wisconsin vs Northeastern: last year's championship, overtime, etc etc etc.
