Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2021-2022

UW vs Clarkson 6 PM CST Thursday.

Winner vs Northeastern at noon CST Saturday.

Sadly I have a meeting Thursday at 630 that I cannot miss, therefore I will miss the entire event live. Double sadly from Watts I understand it will not be televised on a platform that I can DVR, but I have not confirmed it at this point.

UW's best plan for 2 wins this weekend is to get up on the Fightin' Nurses 6-0 after one, then play the crap out of the 3rd D pair and the 3rd/remnants of the 4th line and hold on for a 8-6 win. They will need fresh legs in the next game.

The game will apparently be streamed on the same service that streamed HE regular season and tournament games. They are very good even in regular season for games being streamed free, so I expect this will be free, as well.

And now I scheduled a mini--meeting after the meeting! I suppose I get out the camcorder I have stashed in the basement and record the free stream, then play it in the vcr also have stashed in the basement. It's very doable but for some strange reason I don't feel motivated to go through all the gyrations to pull it off. I do have Saturday noon blocked off for the rematch.

BTN streams are 'archived' so you can watch them later that day or the next day, etc. Maybe the Hockey East service does something like that, too. I'll look later today.

The service is called "SportsLive", and they do have lots of stuff archived. That includes a bunch of Hockey East games, but they differentiate "Hockey East" vs "Hockey East on NESN" (New England Sports Network). There are a bunch of HE women's games in the archive, but not everything. I think the parts of Northeastern women hockey that I saw last weekend was produced by NESN, and they do not show up in either part of the archive. So come Friday morning, will UW vs Clarkson be there? Who knows, maybe yes, maybe no.

Well, today is the day we spoiled UW women's hockey fans wait for every year, UW's participation the ncaa tournament. It feels a little cheap that the game is being played on a Thursday, and it feels a little weird not having the game at home, that is a downer to me for sure. Seeing an elimination game in person with the opportunity to get to the FF was always the highlight game of the year for me to attend.

From Watts I have read, Clarkson seems to have trouble scoring too and their recent record heading into this game is under .500.

Thoughts on the game...
The PP MUST come through tonight.
Have to dominate faceoffs.
Leaky transitional D has to allow 0 odd player rushes.
Blair needs to make huge saves when the leaking transitional D leaks.

On Wisconsin, let's go RED and yes, it is a great day for hockey!

When I watched UW early in the season, O'Brien and/or Webster were your best players. Lately, they've been less noticeable. Could they have been worn down a bit by their first full-length NCAA season? Meanwhile, S. Shirley has started to more and more look like herself. If at least two of your top forwards can make an impact, then I think you'll be fine. Scoring one goal this time of year won't cut it.

Tim, a problem for another day, but I think your LaBahn parking lot is going away.

UW has one big line, one so-so line, and one line made up of 'survivors'. Clarkson has one big line, and I don't know much about the 'character' of their others, but not much impact on the score sheet. So, does MJ go ones-vs-ones, or does he have his twos try to handle Clarkson ones, and turn Watt-O'Brian-webster loose on the Clarkson twos and threes? I think it could be ones cancel, and Shirley or Drake or Schneider make the difference. UW has the talent to beat anybody, and the flaws to lose to anybody.

Well stated. Regarding this portion, I think you could plug at least 9 teams in for "UW" and it would likely still be true:

This year reminds me of 2018; I remember driving to Minneapolis for the final four thinking any one of these teams could win; I don't know that there is a favorite. Another Olympic year, probably not coincidently.

According to the Regular Season, Clarkson has talent that consistently beat the non playoff teams but not enough talent to beat playoff caliber teams.
MICHELLE PASIECHNYK and the defense have to somehow keep Wisconsin to 2 or less goals to have a chance and even that may not be enough given the lack of offense.
Or maybe the offense can somehow take advantage of Wisconsin's "Leaky D" and get 3 or 4 goals. LETS GO TECH.

Seems to be true in Olympic years more often than any other time, although I don't know that Mercyhurst could have won two more games in 2014. True in 2010. I don't think Minnesota was ever going to beat UW in 2006, but the other three could have won. Not sure about Niagara in 2002, or maybe if anyone other than UMD was ultimately going to win that one. Your overall point is very much correct, that there is no greater leveler of the playing field in our sport than the Olympics. Maybe we'll look back and think, "Yes, it was obvious all along that <name> was going to win." I just can't tell you who <name> is right now.

You'll know/remember 2006 better than I: was it too 'early' in UW's rise for the national team to have raided their roster? Vetter, Bauer, Zaugg, Erica Lawler, all playing for UW and not the national team in 2006. Was UW missing anyone in 2006, or was that a reason they were able to break through?

I don't remember that UW had anyone centralized. Bauer never got much of a shot with Hockey Canada, for whatever reason, and the Badgers USA Olympians had yet to break through or arrive (Duggan, Knight). UNH and SLU didn't either. Other than the Saints, the other FF teams from the year before, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Minnesota were hit hard by centralization. UW would have been in contention either way, but the Olympics definitely made its path less arduous.
