Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

The Badgers have no closers... no finishers.

Been a problem the last several weeks. Lots of shots and pretty looking chances but not enough finish.

UW obviously the more talented team on the ice but MSU incredibly opportunistic and capitalized on their best chances - MSU clutch and UW not so much.

All three MSU goals were off Badger mistakes and MSU capitalized each time and that's game.

First goal was all Mac... super soft flub.

Second goal came after a squirt-like collision at center ice.

Third goal was a terrible change - dude that exited the ice either needs to stay in the play or move his ass. Slow walked to the bench as the play was going by him and then it was in the back of the net.

Frustrating game and this team is going nowhere if a few guys don't step up and start finishing the chances they get. 46+ shots and 2 goals? Not good enough.

I agree that there are not enough closers on this team. Need a few more snipers. And they don't convert any 3 on 2's or odd man rushes. And that change was by DSP I believe and it was bad and he pointed to himself right away on the bench. He knew it.

But I will say this was the best game I have scene the Badgers play this year in person. They came to play and to win. They were ready to go. It was just that they made 3 mistakes that directly cost them 3 goals. I would take that game and those mistakes for an entire year and I would expect them to win 90% of their games. At least. It just didn't work out tonight.

It was really a good effort by everyone. Real impressed with the effort. Bounces just didn't go our way. And... we dont have enough closers.

Edit: if they play the way they played tonight in the NCAAs, I would give them a good shot at the final four. They dominated the "best" team in the big ten.

I've never seen a team play such a flawless game except for three mistakes and end up losing.

It is a bummer though that the only scored one on the 5-minute major. Scoring more on that opportunity and Tassy getting blanked on the short-handed breakaway could have erased those mistakes.

Concur that Wisconsin controlled the majority of play. However, as stated, no ability to capitalize on best scpring opportunities. Killer instinct not there. MSU definitely.took advantage of every mistake Wisconsin made and they each resulted in a G. That is the tale of the tape.

Hope they come out better tonight, if nothing for PW. MSU just the better all around team than Wisconsin this year.

How many god damn times is MSU going to board a Badger player before the refs start dq’ing these dicks?

they’re going to severely injure someone if they continue to be allowed to Claude Lemieux guys.

Well, Wisconsin seemed to lose steam in the 2nd and part of the third but they won and didn’t retaliate on what I would call dirty hits by MSU, that’s good coaching.

now it’s time to take out tOSU.

I was really dissappointed that MSU played so dirty and seemed to constantly board Badger players. An otherwise great season by them marred by quite obviously trying to hurt other players.

I was glad Bucky didnt retaliate but also glad they made them defend to the last second.

Win double elimination this weekend against OSU. Assuming Minnesota wins, beat them in 2 weeks at the Kohl. Then we likely head to MSU and can finish them off for a 1 seed in NCAA!

After this weekend, single elimination at the highest seeds home venue.

Pretty good set up if no upsets happen… second round rival match ups Michigan/MichiganState and Wisconsin/Minnesota. What more could a fan want? Good luck Badgers!

Interesting that Kyle was going to be given the night off on Sr. night, but he insisted that he should play and they relented. That is a large group of Srs, I wonder how many will do the grad year?

Assuming UW wins their series, any news on when they would play? I assume the game would get moved to Sunday the 17th since the Kohl Center would not be available on the 14th through the 16th because of the WIAA Boys Basketball state tourney.

I had assumed that the semifinals and championship games were still in Minneapolis.......huh......

Got pre-sale access to tickets for the 2024 Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off yesterday. Wanted front row seats but waited too long and they got gobbled up for the Saturday games. Did manage to get front row for the Sunday games so happy about that. I usually like sitting a bit further up so I can see the whole sheet but I've never sat along the glass so wanted to try it at least once. What did surprise me is that the field is pretty weak based on this years record - Alaska/Fairbanks, UConn, and Ferris State. :-/

I ordered tickets again. The center section tickets were up $14/ticket, $28 for the weekend from this year, so I moved a section over and got 2 day tickets to pay less. We literally moved like 20 feet.

And I agree. Weak field this year.

I like the field, some different team you don't play that often. The B26 is tough enough to keep you up in the pairwise, I'm not concerned about playing a murder's row of N/C games. Plus you never know how the team will do over the season.

Shrinking the width of the rink will do wonders for the 3rd tier sightlines. My daughter and I had mid row 3rd level seats last Friday and you couldn't see the near boards.

If they don't go down. If they go down like Mariucci it won't be any better.

Right, that would make it worse. Don't do that. Surely they will take the common fan's 3rd tier game experience into consideration when they design it. At least they had concessions open on the 3rd tier this time. time.
