Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

should mookie be happy with the pens trade today??

Yeah, Cruz has played great for us this year. He's always noticeable on the ice in a good way. When he's missed games for us it's been very noticeable. Definitely a difference maker at the D1 level. I sure hope Wisconsin can squeeze one more year out of him.

I'm really not that surprised by the loss. There just doesn't seem to be much urgency with this team lately. Terrible passing, terrible breakouts, just terrible. I don't think they can take 2 in a row to move on. I guess they're in the NCAA tourney, but I think they maxed out the season. They haven't been great for many weeks now. Oh yeah, the power play is terrible too.

I really can’t see Wisconsin winning 2 straight against tOSU. No idea what the problem is…still, 25 wins is still a very good season.

They should be very good next season.

I'm not sure about that, they're losing a lot of experienced talent if no seniors come back and if Cruz leaves, like the top 4 F and they are already a bit scoring challenged.

Hastings made the FF twice with less talent I think. I trust he can get this team there, just won’t be this year.

If Lucius leaves that would be insane. He’s nowhere near ready for the NHL.

IMO, other teams have figured out how to slow us down on clearing the d zone by mucking up the passing lanes, clutching and grabbing.

And the team is not reacting well to this and pushing thru. They are left to chip out of the zone and dump & chase and it has not gone well.

This coincides with the decline and playing these big 7 teams the second series of the year and they’ve not adjusted nor figured it out.

OSU was the better team most of the night and just ground them into the ice.

Hastings on the radio after was saying they were “too passive” and getting pushed around at home. He was particularly disappointed in the third period he said.

I don’t think we had an odd man rush all night. And the power play continues to be a huge issue.

And the student cheers are terrible. “F Ohio” chants and dirty cheers all night aren’t going to get it done. Way too quiet for long stretches. It’s really disappointing from the old days early on at the kohl center.

Let me just say that there were so many years that I said "who's going to do the scoring next year?" yet Coach Hastings always found a way to keep winning, to have guys you didn't expect step up. I'll be surprised if that doesn't continue for you.

They Don't necessarily need to shoot more but they need to definitely to take the puck to the net for heaven sakes. It's like they had no rebound opportunities or no pucks going through the slot. Kind of reminds me of a basketball team who's only taking threes and not going to the hole. Let's go red!

They significantlt outplayed first place MSU last weekend in both games, even though they split. They can win 2 in a row against. Will they? Dunno. Haven't been real consistent.

Knott needs to get out there and recruit some freaking playmakers to compliment Hastings disciplined system.

We need some dudes that can come through in these tight games and make some plays.

I agree with all of this.

…And Rohlik is a great coach in his own right. He gets more out of unheralded recruits than any othe b10 coach imo.

so losing to tOSU isn’t like losing to Alaska.

but there does appear to be a habit of playing to their competition which needs to be drummed out of the team.

all in all though I’m happy with this season even if they lose tonight and weren’t somehow chosen to be in the NCAA's. I mean, 25 wins is very good no matter how you cut the cake.

Well, at least the ladies know how to lay a beat down to OSU. Hopefully, we can see some more energy and pride from the men tonight.

That was a good old fashioned beatdown. OSU's second and third goals were during garbage time.
The so-called second season begins for both teams. LET'S GO RED!

They are on their heels and in full scramble mode in last 10 minutes. They'll be lucky to hold on after Silye scores on his own goalie.
