Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

I dont know if michigan is running a neutral zone trap or something... but Badgers having a hard time entering the zone with possession. And if they do they lose it pretty quick.

I like that the refs are letting them play and not calling the ticky-tac stuff. Letting em play!

Which is interesting bc I think it is one of the same refs as the Lindenwood game when there were like 29 penalties

Michigan was clogging all of the lanes. Was it a trap? If yes, look the hell out because that offense is the best I’ve seen all year.

but they outshot the weasels and the game should have been at least 3-5.

I think Wisconsin has a chance to win tomorrow but Hastings has to figure out how to break the weasel defense.

My 2 (3?) cents:

Early in the season I was most impressed by how quickly players were moving the puck – a lot of one-touch passes with great puck support. I’m not seeing that now – players are being much more deliberate, which is giving defenders more time to set up. Also a lot more longer ‘hope’ passes that remind me of the Granato years.

Players also aren’t moving their feet as much; much more gliding or being stationary with the puck. On the PP it’s all perimeter passing til there’s a bad-angle one-timer or a wrister from the point that gets blocked as often as not. Not seeing nearly as much use of a bumper or a guy like Bantle getting the puck down low on the goal line-extended.

What this adds up to is the Badgers not getting as many chances in high-danger areas in the slot/between the dots. Even in the tie against Lindenwood, even though the Badgers dominated the shot totals Lindenwood arguably had more success getting the puck into those high danger areas. It’s frustrating – this team looked so good in the early/mid-season and now it seems like they’re regressing a bit.

Was at the game. Frustrating to say the least but from everything I saw here is the list:

1. So many whiffs on passes and the one touch passes just weren’t there or were short. Guys in a rush to get rid of the puck and not being sound.

2. just didn’t take advantage of top scoring chances. It’s part of the game but could have scored at least 4

3. MI is too talented to give them time and space…they gave them that, clearly

4. play was fast but sloppy. So many pucks were caught in skates I lost count….see #1.

Gotta right the ship and get a win tomorrow.

I don't think the Lindenwood series and a week off did them any favors going into this weekend with Michigan.

Doesn't help that the puck ALWAYS seems to bounce over the Wisconsin sticks. Like, how ****ty is your ice Michigan?

This was driving me crazy.

Hastings recognized the fact that after byes his team does not play very well so hopefully since he understands that he will try to do something in the future to come out better out of the gate. Hopefully they have no byes the rest of the season.

Wisconsin really generated minimal offensive quality chances, that was the most frustrating part about the game for me. We all expect to see you tighter performance today.

Michigan does look shaky in their d-zone at times. Making dumb passes and questionable decisions. Badgers should have some opportunities tonight. Need to finish. And keep the puck in michigan zone.

There was a play where our defender pushed the puck off the boards and down low into the Michigan d-zone. The first badger behind the net had the puck just hop right over his stick and then the second badger in the right side corner hit the puck with the blade and it popped up making it impossible to keep it as the badger was skating with enough speed to not maintain control.

It has been awhile since I've seen the team fight the puck that much just to maintain control of it.

Lol, so Bantle accidentally runs into a guy while celebrating his goal and that is a penalty. Whitelaw gets obliterated for skating by the goalie and they call that matching. Fucking morons in stripes tonight.
