Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

I really dont understand why we are scheduling these non conf games. They offer nothung and only hurt the RPI. Instead of playing Augustana, Long Island, etc they should be playing NCHC or other regional teams in the CCHA like Mankato, Northern Michigan, Tech, Bemidji, etc.

I think it's partially a function of none of the other conferences having so many non-conference games to fill. Kind of forces you to play the independents to fill in the schedule. It's theoretically possible to not schedule the Indy's; but, in reality, it's going to be awfully difficult unless conferences like the NACHO and CCHA reduce their conference schedule (and why would the CCHA, when that will only make getting home games more difficult).

A little bit of bad puck luck, some stupid penalties they were goaded into taking and a lucky bounce goal by lindenwood were really the difference. Outshot shot them to one, it isn't like we're not trying.

Having to scrape and claw for a 3-3 tie is not good. Michigan beat them 10-1 and 9-1. Hell, Penn State beat them 9-3 and 7-1. Just a really ugly score to have on the record. Definitely hurts the pairwise ranking. I suppose a tie is a heck of a lot better than losing, but good teams wipe the floor with bad opponents.

I get it. If the shots were evenish and they looked lazy/sloppy on the ice, I'd be concerned. I am concerned Tassy made a lot of bad decisions in the way he played physically. He needs to play more under control. Teams will target him and try to get under his skin and get him into the box.

This is a good team and I don't know how you can say it's not. Look at their statistics and record top to bottom.

They has a so so night defensively and took way too many penalties this weekend. They had 54 shots on goal Saturday, so they were clicking pretty good, but goalie stood on his head. Yes this game is not as desired, but let's hope they move forward with better play in 2 weeks at Michigan (as Owen Lindmark said in the post game press conference).

I do think this is a great team. That’s why it is HIGHLY disappointing to tie Lindenwood. I never said they were not a good team.

I am glad you feel that way, but I think you should reread your post as you basically said they are not a good team: "...good teams wipe the floor with bad opponents."

To me it reads: They are a good team. Therefore, they should have wiped the floor with a bad team. Both teams I listed, Penn St and Michigan, shelled Lindenwood. We swept both of them, but not Lindenwood… There is no logical explanation for that other than they didn’t take them seriously. High shot totals or not, I expect them to win that game.

Basketball followed their lead and lost to a pretty bad Penn St team. Seems to be going around.

D1 hockey is pretty flat with talent gaps. Every weekend there are upsets of unranked teams beating ranked team. It's the nature of the D1 men's game. Your viewpoint is more in tune with D1 women's hockey where yeah the top dogs woodshed the little sisters of the poor every week. The talent gaps are huge.

I flat out disagree that there isn’t a huge talent gap between Wisconsin and Lindenwood. Their leading point scorer scores .55 points per game. Wisconsin has nine players above that mark.

Michigan kicked the shit out of MSU tonight. The weasels are a team I would not want Wisconsin to play on the playoffs. They can be scary good on offense. And I know UW swept them at home but the speed of UM’s forwards is the best I’ve seen all year (save for the 2 Boston schools whom I haven’t seen play yet).

They can be scary but a locked in system WI team should be able to control them. That result did surprise me.

Don't think I am saying anything contreversial here but, MI has uber talented forwards, clearly, but as has been proven (and was again last night) their biggest liability is their defense. They were up 4-1 on MSU and just laid down to lose 4-7. Good forecheck and eliminating time and space with them.is key. I expect to see that this upcoming weekend when we go to Yost.

Low standards LOL. Sweep or die!

I think we need to stay grounded. It's going to be really tough to sweep @Michigan.

With a pretty favorable home / away schedule after MU (MSU, Goofs and ND coming to the Kohl (@Ped St and @OSU)), we can make hay the second half of the season.

The last week of the season with MSU at the Kohl March 1 and 2 looks to be epic. Unfortunately for me I won't be able to attend either game as I am on a retreat that weekend.

Looking at the ticket office map the Saturday Minnesota game looks to be the largest game in a long time. There are 10 to 11 sections already mostly sold out in the third level (bottom two levels sold out). Notre Dame not far behind that. Should be lots of energy in the building.
