Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Next weekends games at Lindenwood will also be played without Turnball, Debiens, Clarke, Channell, and Nurse. These 5 will be at the Hockey Canada Festival.. A chance for others to step up and show what they can do.. It should be interesting!

I knew the season was close, but didn't realize things get going in literally one week. Not thrilled that those five players will be out of the lineup. I'd like to think the Badgers can easily handle Lindenwood without them, but we will be down both our starting goalie and captain. I'm hoping that there aren't any (or many more) international tournaments that take players off our roster throughout the season. I don't know of any other college sport that has this happen where you lose top players during the regular season.

There's the Four Nations Cup, November 4-8: http://www.tourismkamloops.com/2014-4-nations-cup. There don't seem to be any Wisconsin games during that period though. After that, the next tournament is the Women's World Championship, which starts the weekend after the Frozen Four.

I read that yesterday...kinda sucks from a selfish point of view. At least they only lose 1 D so they have 5 to play. My money is on Miller to start both games in goal. It also means they'll be heading into UMD with an unjelled lineup and UMD will have 2 games under their belts w/o missing 5 players (assuming they lose no one to this Canadian Festival).

Looks like the only 'Dogs' player attending is Brigette Lacquette, although Ashleigh Brykaliuk and Jessica Healey are included on the "Not Attending" list, meaning they were likely invited. Whether that means they are injured, weren't interested, or Shannon said, "No, stay in Duluth," I don't know.

Wisconsin women's hockey: Meet the new Badgers, Megan Miller

Doesn't sound like she was too happy at BC.

Certainly wish her all the best at Wisco.

Who WOULD be happy @ BC?! All that losing sure must get old....

I feel bad for Walters. ARD comes in and steps past her on the depth chart, now Miller does the same. She had very good stats @ Shattuck.

I see 15 F on the roster, so UW will still be able to use 4 lines missing the Canadian gals.

Fixed your post......Thanks for the info.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

So I finally got a chance to talk to all the new players, minus Emily Clark, who up at Team Canada Fall Festival, on Monday and a short profile on each will run every day this week over on B5Q, so make sure to check back every day for those.

The make-up of the team is pretty much exactly the opposite of last year - they're heavy on F and light on D pairings. Whereas last season they relied heavily on D and might have struggled to find the net at times, it will likely be a heavy offensive focus and basically score enough goals to offset and possible cracks in a thinner D.

There will be 2-3 F that don't dress for every game. It's an embarrassment of riches, really. Lines really can't be gelled or put together since the 5 girls are up at Team Canada camp, so what we see at Lindenwood won't be anything solild in terms of what lines will look like the rest of the season. On the plus side, it does mean Miller will get in net right away, which will be good for her and girls like Lauren Williams and a few others will see deeper ice time than they might otherwise have and I think that only does good things for their confidence and for the coaches' ability to see what the girls can do.

I only got a watch a few minutes of practice before driving back to Milwaukee, but I watched Pankowski skate in and then flick one top shelf that had me whistling air out of my teeth.

I don't know - maybe I'm just talking crazy, but I was only barely in hockey mind before Monday, but I left LaBahn crazy excited for this season. Last year's team showed some absolute sparks - Nurse's wheels, ARD in net, Turnbull's determination - and now you're adding some flat out amazing raw talent in this new class. I'm beyond excited for the potential of this team.

Great interview in Bucky's 5th Quarter with UW Freshman Baylee Wellhausen. I had a chance to see her play a few times over the last couple of years while she was at Shattuck. She is described perfectly in this article.. she does bring a ton of energy to the ice and really has a lot of skill to go along with a great work ethic. Really looking forward to watching this entire Freshman class play!

Seen Baylee several times when my D has been on some summer all-star teams with her. Interview just like her, high skill, small size.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Pretty cool to read that Wellhausen said fellow freshman Emily Clark is the fastest skater she has ever seen. I love speed! I can't wait to see them play in a few weeks.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Any talk or other indication of maybe switching one of the forwards to play D? One who I think could do it (and this is a compliment to her) would be Erica Sowchuck.

Not that I have heard and not Sowchuk because I heard her on some of the higher F lines, but it wouldn't surprise me as things shake out. Absolutely nothing is set yet. Don't forget they've only officially been in practice for a week and while some have been on ice all summer with captains practices, etc ... the revolving door with Team USA and Team Canada camps means they haven't really had the whole team on the ice together yet. The D they have is solid, just not particularly deep. They would not be in great shape if injuries cropped up, I think, so they obviously will look for girls they think can step into those roles should the need arise.

I imagine we'll see a lot of different looks this weekend as Coach tries out different pairings and different positions. The schedule is tough early on, so they're going to take advantage of this softer opening, I think

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

In looking at UW's website, there is a link to video for tonight's game. I can't tell if if free or not, but I just started the sign up process, so I'll check check my email when I get home and see. It would be sweet to hook the laptop up to the bigscreen tonight and watch some blades of steel.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

the live video is pretty good, no audio but with the live blog I am plenty good. a very nice crowd on hand.
