Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Interestingly, the one player who didn't make the final roster (Burke) is arguably one of the best returning players for the Badgers. That's a loaded U.S. roster.

UND & OSU fans are likely saying the same thing, that's a pretty talented group of D cut from the U22

Thanks for the link, I wonder how many future/current rodents are on the squads?

Interestingly it says uncommitted Alexis Mauermann from WI is also on the squad -- that actually brings WIscinsin's number to 11 since she's so committed to Wisco. And, Sam Cogan is on Canada's u18 so that's 12.

As for MN, on the u18's they have Skarzynski, Marshall, Woken and Gulstene in Calgary for u18s

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

When looking at the 2014-2015 Badger roster I am counting 17 players with U-18 or U-22 experience (past years included) on either Team USA or Team Canada. That leaves only 7 players (5 forwards, 1 defense, and 1 goaltender) on this seasons roster that haven't played for their respective country!

How are the Badger Womens Hockey jerseys different from the mens? Also, will they come with the players numbers and names on the back as well? Just wondering... I have a granddaughter who I'm guessing would love one of these for her birthday!!

Men's jerseys have 'WISCONSIN' spelled diagonally across the front; Women's have only the "motion W" on the front.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Almost positive it would be some kind of NCAA violation to put the player's name on the back of a jersey being sold, as cool as it would be.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Recruit? I think UM/UW "select".

Selecting is fine with me, I just want to make sure UW selects as many or or more blue chippahs than the rodents. UW is a little behind the rodents in the F column. In the future UW seems to be in a great spot. Then the ? is how will they develop and perform. What is the old saying....you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear?

The UW women's jersey will have the motion W, which is unique to them. Just remember they will only have away jerseys for sure, the red jersey with the white W on it.

They won't sell you a jersey with names/numbers, but you could get it customized on your own. (I'm not exactly sure what the best way to do that is, but I know there are services that will do it.

Is that official that Mauermann is committed to Wisconsin? I can't find anything that says she is.

Cognan is also one I hadn't heard before, but according to this LINK, you are correct.

Update: Looks like according to this you're also spot on with the Mauermann commitment. Thanks for the update pakidnyc.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

OK Badger fans, take a look at the following data
first, it is intentionally crude, only listing the players number, it is the second number
so what is the 1st number?
it is a ratio of the number of goals scored divided by the number of goals given up (not including PP) while the player is on the ice
you have to keep in mind some players were sent out against the other teams most productive line, so their numbers might be lower as a result
compared to a player who generally faced the other teams 2nd or 3rd line
using this ratio removes the amount of ice time a player receives (which gives them an advantage when comparing players scoring or the number of goals allowed)
and it also is better (IMO) than +/- because a player who is on the ice giving up 30 goals but scoring 50
has the same +/- as the player who gives up 10, but is on for 30
so waddya think? does it correspond with your observation of which players are doing the job on the ice?
doing the job=helping her team score, while preventing the opposition from scoring

!!! 20 no goals given up, cannot define as a ratio
5.5 27
3.3 25
3.1 24
3.0 23
2.9 2
2.8 3
2.8 8
2.5 28
2.2 6
2.2 14
2.1 16
2.1 13
2.1 17
2.0 11
1.8 12
1.8 7
1.7 10
1.6 9

team average is 2.3

FWIW, I did this for the Gophers too

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

This question goes out to any veteran Badger fans and posters.. Would someone with more knowledge than myself please give an assessment of this years incoming freshman class. I have seen some of them play over the years but, not nearly enough to know what we are getting this season! They all seem to be very talented and have played at high levels. Just would like to see an analysis of each player if anyone out there has knowledge of this group..

I would too but I don't think this person exists. I will volunteer to be that person, I just need some coin to finance the gig. :) Maybe Tristar Scoop can do some digging around for us. All I do it look up if they players have/had played for or at least been invited to tryout for the U teams of their countries, hence my interest on the previous posts in this thread. From reading various comments, as long as MJ is the coach one can almost assume UW will be loaded.

And a big thanks to Chuck and the 5th Q for all the info they provide!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

USA sweeps the U22 series (3-0) with a 3-2 shootout win today.

USA dominated the game and if not for Canada's goalie , Anne Renee Desbiens (Wisconsin) the game would have been a blowout. Canada actually led the game 2-0 with less than 3 minutes to go but they took a penalty, the US pulled their goalie and scored on the 6-4 with less than 2 min to go. Then the US pulled their goalie again and they scored again with less than a min to go to tie it up 2-2. Canada took another penalty and it carried over into the 5 min OT (which was played 4-4). For the ensuing 4-3 pk for 1:13, the Canadian coach had an all Clarkson lineup of MacAulay, Fast and Ambrose out and they killed all but 7 sec of the PP before they left the ice. Ambrose made a number of key blocks. USA outshot Canada 29-14 and I would bet 15 of those 29 stops by Desbiens were grade A and 4 or 5 were real Sportscenter Top 10 worthy :) .
