Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

They still won't be evening games when the men are at home, will they? I can't see them pitting the two against each other.
They do at Minnesota when both are at home with start times an hour apart. On Friday nights...usually a few hours separation on Sat.

Well damm. I honestly think I'd attend the women's game now. And that's an amazing shift after nearly 40 years following the men.

Unless there are logistical issues with event staff and zambonis, I say bring it on. Make it a "Hockey Night in Madison". There isn't a 100% overlap in fan bases and it's not like they are trying to fill two 15,000 arenas. The 2:00 Friday games serve no positive purpose except that's the only time they can get the Kohl when the men are in town.

In my opinion, even if going head-to-head, the women can offer a competitive alternative being about a quarter of the price and currently being a lot better (relatively speaking) than the men's team.

Wouldn't want to see if every home series, but I don't think it would be a bad thing at all.

Besides racking up six more points with a relatively easy sweep over Mankato, it was nice seeing more scoring outside of the "Big Four". Brittany Ammerman had 4 goals and Packer and Turnbull lit the lamp and provided good energy all weekend. Once they get McKeough back, they will go a legitmate seven deep on defense. Hopefuly, that will be sooner than later.

Not that it's a big surprise considering the past few years, but the Badgers will be hosting the first round WCHA playoffs out in Verona again this year.

NCAA's would be at the Kohl on Saturday March 10.

In the recruiting thread, someone implied that the SSM goaltender committed to UW. Can anyone confirm? Also, what happened to Ruesegger (sp) -- transfer, injury, quit?

How do they end up in Verona. Schedule conflict? Seating isn't that large. How many fans do they get for first round?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

The Eagle's Nest holds about 1500 if I recall. A letter was sent out to season ticket holders this week about the post-season schedule, and suggesting that they buy tickets in advance because they are expecting a sell out. If the Sunday game is needed, those tickets won't be sold until after Saturday's game.

Actually, taking a quick look at the Kohl Center schedule, I don't see why they can't have it at home. It looks like the only weekend event is a Women's Basketball game on Sunday Afternoon, both Mens Hockey and BB are on the road. I really don't see why they couldn't at least have the Friday and Saturday games at the kohl, and head out to Verona if needed on Sunday, or better yet, move WBB to Sunday Night, and play an early game on Sunday if needed.

There is probably a rule in place where the floor needs to be down a day in advance of the hoop game to allow for the visitors to have practice on the court.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

That seems unlikely, as I know there have been cases before where they have played hockey and basketball on the same day. Just last weekend, there was a Hockey Doubleheader on Friday, Basketball Saturday afternoon, Mens Hockey Saturday night, and Womens Hockey Sunday afternoon.

The Wisconsin HS Wrestling tournament is at the Kohl that weekend Thur - Sat. Not on the UW website, but shows on the Kohl website. They do flip that floor min and out pretty quick though, I think they played a bball game vs OSU on Saturday at 1PM then a men's hockey game at 7 or 8 PM that night.

Yah,interesting. She just kind of disappeared from the roster. She was a standout at SSM, winning a national championship there in 2009. Played 12 games lastbyear and should've been a Jr this year.

Made it to both games at St. Cloud this weekend. It was my first time seeing the team in person this year. I was really impressed.

Chuck, where have you been? They've been kicking butt all year. With the men's team probably playing their last games in Madison for the season this weekend, come on out to watch the women the rest of the way. At the very least, they'll be hosting first round games next weekend out in Verona and then will almost certainly be hosting a NCAA quarterfinal game in a couple of weeks.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

They've been kicked off campus for pretty much every year they've hosted the first round of the WCHAs due to lack of availability of Kohl Center. Hopefully, this should be the last year of this with LaBahn opening up next season. I'm not sure Verona even holds 1,500. Both nights will be essentially sold out. Those going to the game should definitely buy tickets in advance and show up somewhat early to get a decent seat.

I live 5+ hours from Madison so it's pretty tough to make it for games. If I see Wisconsin in person it's usually on the road.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Congratulations to the Badgers as they roll 7-1 against Ohio State to clinch the outright WCHA regular season title. While I'm a little surprised at the final score, I'm not surprised at all that they were going to be ready to play today.

I'll be interested if Coach Johnson opens up the bench a little more tomorrow and/or gives Kaasa the start in goal.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

I'm curious if anyone knows if the seating @ LaBahn will be benches or seats....

I'm pretty excited to have tickets in hand for Saturday's game @ the Eagle's Nest. Is the Nest a typical rink where your are actually chilly sitting there and you have to bring in blankets to put on the aluminum benches?

Let's go RED!
