Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

I'm not really surprised by the outcome. Playing a good Duluth team, on their home ice, with their season on the line had the potential for upset all over it. The bigger concern, that seamed like it continued throughout the game is that the Badgers just aren't playing their best hockey right now. Most of the time they still have enough talent to win, but at the point of the season, that's not going to be enough anymore.

I'll actually say that last Saturday's game in Verona might have been the perfect example of how the team is just not at their best right now. They got out to a nice lead, and the game was never in doubt, but then they are on their game they simply wear down lesser teams like Mankato. That they didn't score a goal in the second half of the game is very unlike them when they are peaking. I think we've actually seen several examples of this going all the way back to the Sunday game in North Dakota.

That said, I think they can turn it around, especially coming back to the Kohl next weekend. I think a UMD rematch seems almost certain, if the dogs win tonight, but unlike last year, I don't have as much of a problem with it. At least this time, UMD will likely be the true 8 seed, unless we see another Tourney upset out east.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

While not shocked by the loss to Duluth, still very disappointing. I'm guessing that Shannon Miller used every motivational trick in the book over the last week getting UMD ready for last night. It'll be interesting what they have left in the tank tonight against the Gophers.

I think getting back to Kohl Center and now being the NCAAs should (ideally) increase the energy and urgency level. It's not like they don't have the talent and coaching to get this thing back on track. I'm really hoping that McKeough will be back as she is really key on the blue-line.

Looking forward to seeing them back home this weekend. I have to guess that they'll be chomping at the bit to get back on the ice and get back to Duluth to take care of business.

I have never seen Knight have as minimal impact as last night vs. Duluth.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Time to regroup, get back to the friendly confines of Kohl Center and take care of business. The NCAA/UW didn't jack the prices up too much for Saturday night's game ($10/$5), so I predict a crowd pushing 5,000. Mercyhurst has a history of hiring a band for tournament games, so I don't know why this year would be different. I'm assuming/hoping that UW brings out their band (God forbid a band the same size as they do for men's games).

I feel comfortable that Rigsby won't give up more than a couple of goals at most, so it's up to the offense to start doing a better job burying their chances and be more efficient on the power play (especially if they are fortunate enough to get 5-on-3 opportunities).

Should be an entertaining Saturday night. Hopefully, many of the disgruntled fans of the men's team will make the trip out to cheer on the women.

Excluding the lost season of 2009-10, this is the first time I would bet against the badgers to win it all since 2005. (I inexplicably even liked them against Duluth at Duluth in 2008.)

I did too. I watched the game, and I'm still not sure how they lost by four. One of the rare times that they didn't bring a good performance in March.

I'm a men's fan, (and not disgruntled :)) and will be in attendance with my kids. I'm a little concerned just because UW has had teams like OSU, Bemiji and Kato give them a hard time at the end of the season here, not to mention the loss to the dawgsettes. UW just seems to be lacking that clamp down killer mentality and they seem to be getting frustrated at times, which they should not be. Maybe their feeling a little entitled this year, I don't know.

Congratulations to Brianna Decker to being named to the Patty Kazmaier Top Three finalist list. Definitely deserving, though I'm a little biased as a Badger fan.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Congratulations, Badgers, for duking it out in the championship game. The two teams were nearly twins, and it could have gone either way. Thanks especially to the seniors, particularly to Hilary. It's a blow to lose you all.

....from a MN parent.

I was at the game yesterday, and I wanted to note the outstanding class displayed by Hilary Knight and Alev Kelter for
continuing to clap for every MN girl when they received their individual awards post game. You ladies displayed the finest
sportsmanship the game has to offer. I even saw it mentioned in the State Journal today as well.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Saw this last night, but you beat me getting this posted. Not saying the championship game would have ended any differently had she been 100%, but her injury certainly didn't help even though she played. Hope she is able to have a full recovery for her upcoming senior year and beyond.

Hockey concussion will keep McKeough from Canadian women’s selection camp

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

I just have to say, if she was not 100% cleared on concussion symptoms she should NOT have been playing in the championship game. We all know that you don't mess with these head injuries . . . EVER.
