Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five
I'm not really surprised by the outcome. Playing a good Duluth team, on their home ice, with their season on the line had the potential for upset all over it. The bigger concern, that seamed like it continued throughout the game is that the Badgers just aren't playing their best hockey right now. Most of the time they still have enough talent to win, but at the point of the season, that's not going to be enough anymore.
I'll actually say that last Saturday's game in Verona might have been the perfect example of how the team is just not at their best right now. They got out to a nice lead, and the game was never in doubt, but then they are on their game they simply wear down lesser teams like Mankato. That they didn't score a goal in the second half of the game is very unlike them when they are peaking. I think we've actually seen several examples of this going all the way back to the Sunday game in North Dakota.
That said, I think they can turn it around, especially coming back to the Kohl next weekend. I think a UMD rematch seems almost certain, if the dogs win tonight, but unlike last year, I don't have as much of a problem with it. At least this time, UMD will likely be the true 8 seed, unless we see another Tourney upset out east.
