Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Ask and ye shall receive. Like the fact that there are no September games and the only Friday 2:00 game is day after Thanksgiving.

A couple of split weekends (Friday night/Sunday afternoon) and only one Saturday night game. I assume it's due to staffing issues, but I wish that they could schedule the face-offs closer to each other when the men and women are playing the same day.

Do they really only play 4 non-conference games?? and what are the thoughts that 2 of them are taken up by Lindenwood?

edit: i see all WCHA teams only play 4...I guess when your the best conference you don't need to play outside of it :) :)

Because the conference schedule takes up 28 games, they are only allowed a max of 6 non-conference games. Some do play all 6.

I'll be honest, I didn't even notice that when I first looked at it. Seems like they've always played more than 4 non-conference, but too lazy to check it out. As far as Lindenwood goes, I'm not sure what to say. Badgers introduced them last year to D-1 hockey by crushing them in the opening series and I don't see it going much differently this year. I'd like to think they could schedule a more competitive series, but when you play almost 40% of your games against UMD, Minnesota and North Dakota, you don't want to go crazy out-of-conference.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Its a decent schedule, and the Friday night games are a big plus, but I too was hoping we'd see some of the late afternoon/4pm type Saturday games like Minnesota does that are nearly perfect for a hockey double header with the women and mens teams. I'm guessing the 3 road weekends to open the season are there to give a little extra room for possible construction issues with the new arena, but I'm certainly glad the 2-3 month hiatus of past years - where there wouldn't hardly be a home series between the end of October and mid-January - is a thing of the past.

I'm also a little disappointed that there's not a single Kohl Center game in the bunch. It would seem like that Minnesota weekend would be right in line with when they've done Fill the Bowl in the past, although I haven't cross checked with what else might be going on at Kohl that weekend.

A friend of mine had heard that they could/will move the "big" matchups to the KC as needed because of the bigger crowd. This far out it is probably easier to just put LaBahn and then change it later to say "this game will be in the KC." I can't see them NOT doing the fill the bowl, so at least one game will be in there. Last two seasons have been outstanding. It will be nice to go on a friday afternoon to LaBahn and have a pretty full building instead of a vast space filled with only a few people.
