Who will be the 7th member of the Big Ten Hockey Conference?

Re: Who will be the 7th member of the Big Ten Hockey Conference?

Isn't at least a quarter of this thread discussing why North Dakota isn't going to be added as an affiliate?

Unless the CIC is going to start throwing gobs of money at aeronautical and meteorological research.....it isn't going to happen.

Since JHU is in for lacrosse as an affiliate, I say North Dakota is the next one. Certainly is a bold prediction, yes.

Hopkins only got in because they needed a 6th team to form a conference, and couldn't talk any of their existing membership into starting lax. Had Northwestern been like "lax sounds great, can we play please?", the b1g would never have invited JHU.

Hockey doesn't need NoDak, they already have a conference,, nor would they benefit substantially from a move like that. The only way the B1G invites an associate for hockey is if an existing member drops hockey. Hopefully that's Minnesota, but it just won't happen.

I don't know if we know that a 6th lax team is the only reason that JHU was offered to join the B1G. It could be...but it might well be that they would have invited them anyways due to their research $$$.

Its more likely that both UND and DU drop hockey than Minnesota.

Well so much for the "we're as good as Indiana football" argument. IU beats Indiana State 73-35 while UConn falls to Towson.

So I guess you guys better keep hoping women's bball helps you get in.

Here Butchy Butchy Butchy Butchy... get that wikipedia page updated with last night's loss to Towson!

As I said on another thread we are praying for the football season to go down the tubes mercifully quickly so we can get a real coach. Back to a spread offense last night. Both lines got pushed around despite outweighing Towson by 30-40 pounds per man.

Hopkins is DIII in every other sport. (Research wise, it's probably fair to say that Hopkins is the top of the heap in the B1G ... as opposed to just good enough to hang with them.)

DU and UND are more likely to drop hockey than MN.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing.

Agree. Just think if JHU came out and said we have a major athletic announcement press conference. I wonder what people would think?

Re: Who will be the 7th member of the Big Ten Hockey Conference?

Also probably opens up a few slots at JHU for the top Doctor candidates at the other Big Ten schools as well.
Nothing in my experience indicates that any school ever has "quotas" for where their grad students come from. Does the B1G really "look after its own" in this way?

I knew Coach P was a terrible idea... It wasn't a confident move. It was a move of weakness by a committee trying to avoid risks.

I could ask, but I'm going to say not likely. Now if professors know other b10 profs then student recommendations can help... But that's not much different than normal.

I can't think of a program that isn't going to try to get the best students regardless of origin.

Yes, and if there is a rivalry, that could hurt just as much as any conference affiliation might help (which is probably very little in both directions).

Wait till BCU is stuck with Temple, ODU and ECU..and Wake Forest.. in the ACC.

Some B1G fans are loving UConn over on the UConn board.

I went to Michigan for Grad. school and there was not one ohio state graduate in my program. There were in other programs though (I think).
