WCHA Playoffs

Re: WCHA Playoffs

What a strange season for Wisconsin... 3-1 against Minnesota, 1-2-1 vs. UMD, 1-0-1 vs. Providence. That's probably the best record in the country other than Mercyhurst against the top 10 teams. But then they were a .500 team against everyone else. Now they're a 2-4 team against Ohio State, and their season is over.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

So just to recap all the scores...

(1) Minnesota-Duluth 4, (8) North Dakota 1 - UMD wins series 2-0

(2) Minnesota 4, (7) Minnesota State 3, 3OT - Minnesota wins series 2-0

(6) Bemidji State 2, (3) St. Cloud State 1 - Series tied 1-1; Game 3 Sunday at 7:07 p.m.

(5) Ohio State 4, (4) Wisconsin 3, OT - Ohio State wins series 2-0

The matchups for next weekend are still muddy, and depend on the result of Sunday's SCSU-BSU game.
-- If the Huskies win, they take on Minnesota in the WCHA semifinal, and Ohio State will face UMD.
-- If the Beavers win, they take on UMD, and Ohio State will face Minnesota.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

The Bulldogs have a bit of a score to settle with Ohio State. Go Huskies! :D

Why is that, because OSU had the audacity to win a game in Duluth a few weeks ago? Two of UMD's 3 wins over OSU went into OT. That would suggest competitive hockey between the two teams. It's called sports. Your favorite team doesn't always win. I don't believe there's any score to settle.

The correct answer is "yes."

Your favorite team doesn't always win.
Mine usually does. Sixteen of the last 17 anyway. Regular season WCHA champions. Top seed for WCHA playoffs. Ranked #2 in the country. Stuff like that.

I don't believe there's any score to settle.
You're not a Bulldogs fan, are you?

It's called trash talking. It's part of sports. Really.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

If SCSU plays like they did yesterday and Bemidji plays as well they did yesterday, then Bemidji should win the game today. Yesterday I'm not sure if it was just how well Bemidji was playing or if it was a lack of effort from the SCSU squad but Bemidji was by FAR the better team. They should have won that game by a lot more. The only player for SCSU that played really well was Nixon in goal.

Sadly I won't be at the game tonight, but I will be listening to the game to see if SCSU can capitialize off of being the first team outside the Big 3 to place in the top 3. Bemidji was a tough draw since they are a vastly different team with a certain goaltender than they are without her and its the time she missed that I think made it so Bemidji placed 6th like they did.

Is it wrong to feel that if the Huskies don't win this game today this season was pretty much wasted?

Humility is generally considered a good trait. Arrogance not so much. Schmoe -- an absolutely appropo name.

I don't think anyone in the league enjoys facing Tomcikova. I don't think the season was wasted by St. Cloud, though, regardless of how today's game goes. It was one that won't soon be forgotten, that's for sure. This was the season to make a move and the Huskies certainly did that.

Yes, its nice that SCSU finally broke into the top 3, but if we still exit in the first round, I can't say it will be well remembered. If we waste finishing higher than ever it just seems like a huge let down. As any fan should, I want SCSU to have success. We have gotten past the first round before so just finishing 3rd in the league at the end of the day is a disapointment as far as I'm concerned. thats why I'm struggling to not feel that if we loss tonight, it was a wasted chance to really make a stand and shake up the strangle hold UM, UMD, and UW have on the WCHA.

Bemidji really was a tough draw for the Huskies. It almost seems like punishment for taking 3rd!

edit: you would think I could spell WCHA correctly the first time.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

I can see wanting the Huskies to go as far as they can through the playoffs, but this season will be a huge boost to the players going into next season. And other teams in the league aren't going to look past the Huskies like they might've been tempted to do in the past. Granted, the top three teams were playing without most of their leading scorers and top players from last season, but that's not to take anything away from St. Cloud's success.

While I would like to meet OSU again and come out on top, I have to say that I'm really rooting for BSU. I like their style of hockey and they really have some good players. It would be fun to see them advance. I should also ad that I was treated so well at their home ice. Minnesota nice, not to mention sportsmanship, is alive and well with the BSU fans! think we're likely to get hurt with OSU's style of play.

Either way, it's been such an interesting year. No one expected the Bulldogs to do what they did (though I certainly believed!). There was the Olympic factor which affect some, others not so much. The top rated team certainly proved that they were human and gave others hope that they could be beat. And I'm all for the un-usual suspects advancing to make this game and this conference stronger and more exciting!

So.... GO BEAVERS!

p.s. You're mascot is a much cuter version of Goldy.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

After 1 period of play, SCSU and BSU are tied 0-0.

If KVSC is to be believed SCSU is playing much better than yesterday. Thats a good sign if you are a Huskie fan.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

Have you met BrookyOne? He's got arrogance defined.

Huh? I can't let that one go, you obviously don't know him very well. Brooky's one of the nicer guys you'll ever meet. He always quick to give credit to the opposition, when credit is due.
