Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU
I think I was engrossed, too. I deserve to eat major crow on this one.
Faulkner's shout-outs last year were against Clarkson (an ECAC team with a losing record last season, in the first game of the season, too), Colorado College, Alabama-Huntsville (whoopee), North Dakota (in maybe the greatest UNO game I have ever seen), and, oh, SCSU, twice. Once here and once there. (Maybe he should get the nod tomorrow night after all).
Looking back, I think the whole 6 shutout thing was sort of fluky. Faulkner was not in the top 28 nationwide in Goals Against Average last year and was not in the top 20 in Save Percentage, either. In fact, in retrospect, I think we had the one of the best seasons in school history in spite of him, certainly not because of him. I'll go one step further and say that if we had had top notch goaltending last year, UNO might have been a Frozen Four team last year. I'm not going to revisit our Michigan NCAA game and whether or not it was goal or not yet again, but, the team that beat us in that game ended up in the final and you are not going to find too many people around here that think that was a goal to this day. Me included. I now have come to the belief that last year's team was probably the best in school history, except, we did not have championship goaltending. Where is Dan Ellis when you need him?
It's funny how easy it is to look back and say why didn't I see that, but at the time it wasn't.At least you admit you were wrong. there are a few Husky posters that would fight until they were blue in the face saying they were still right.
