WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

It's funny how easy it is to look back and say why didn't I see that, but at the time it wasn't.:D At least you admit you were wrong. there are a few Husky posters that would fight until they were blue in the face saying they were still right.:D

I think I was engrossed, too. I deserve to eat major crow on this one.

Faulkner's shout-outs last year were against Clarkson (an ECAC team with a losing record last season, in the first game of the season, too), Colorado College, Alabama-Huntsville (whoopee), North Dakota (in maybe the greatest UNO game I have ever seen), and, oh, SCSU, twice. Once here and once there. (Maybe he should get the nod tomorrow night after all).

Looking back, I think the whole 6 shutout thing was sort of fluky. Faulkner was not in the top 28 nationwide in Goals Against Average last year and was not in the top 20 in Save Percentage, either. In fact, in retrospect, I think we had the one of the best seasons in school history in spite of him, certainly not because of him. I'll go one step further and say that if we had had top notch goaltending last year, UNO might have been a Frozen Four team last year. I'm not going to revisit our Michigan NCAA game and whether or not it was goal or not yet again, but, the team that beat us in that game ended up in the final and you are not going to find too many people around here that think that was a goal to this day. Me included. I now have come to the belief that last year's team was probably the best in school history, except, we did not have championship goaltending. Where is Dan Ellis when you need him?

Especially with short notice since I don't think anyone thought SCSU could pull off home ice.;):p

Well for the Gophers sake, it was a good thing we did.

Good luck with UAA. Should be some serious redemption served up this weekend.

Same to you, I truly hope to see SCSU in St Paul. Not because I want to play them(they make me nervous:eek:), but because they earned home ice with everything they have been through this year. A trip to the Final Five would be a nice reward.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

I assume he meant good for the Gophers' PWR which will look better if SCSU does well based on their 3-1 record against the Huskies this year.

This is true. However, I was referring to the fact that the Huskies took 3 points from UMD to earn home ice. If we had not, Duluth could have walked away with the MacNaughton cup, or the Gophers would have shared it with UMD. Thus it was a good thing for the Gophers that SCSU earned home ice.

Also a good point!:) We much appreciated the help on Friday and I was very thankful the Gophers did their own thing and won it outright on Saturday.

We needed help this weekend as well. DU did us a huge favor against UNO. Hard to believe it all fell into place.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Bad news for us Husky fans. I was over at playoffstatus.com and according to their calculations, the only way we make the NCAA's is to win the Broadmoor. Not a total shocker, but I thought maybe we could flip a couple of comparisons with a sweep next weekend and some losses by teams in front of us in the PWR, then if we lost in the championship game still be okay. Apparently it isn't that easy to jump over 10 teams in the rankings. Who knew.

Obviously you dink.... SCSU hasn't been ranked at all this year.

Well here is a clever one..."rankings" has nothing to do with who makes the NCAA tourney. It's all about the pairwise. Many times, if a team makes a deep run in the conference championship if they are a .500 team, they can flip enough comparisons to squeak in. This year is not one of those years for the Huskies. Which did not surprise me. The Huskies and the WCHA's poor non-conference record is too much to overcome in the pairwise.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Speaking of rankings, KRACH has St. Cloud with the highest strength of schedule for any team in the WCHA (SCSU at 14 - UNO at 33). But even with a more difficult schedule overall, according to team rankings SCSU had better overall team statistics with SCSU's offense ranked at 16th and UNO's offense at 23rd while SCSU's defense was ranked at 27th and UNO's defense at 40th.

SCSU finished the season strong, while UNO swooned. Plus bloggers on both the collegehockeynews and USCHO websites are picking SCSU to win this series. I'm jumping on that bandwagon.

St. Cloud wins the series on Sunday night and ends the season for the Corncows. Go Huskeys!
