WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Speaking of rankings, KRACH has St. Cloud with the highest strength of schedule for any team in the WCHA (SCSU at 14 - UNO at 33). But even with a more difficult schedule overall, according to team rankings SCSU had better overall team statistics with SCSU's offense ranked at 16th and UNO's offense at 23rd while SCSU's defense was ranked at 27th and UNO's defense at 40th.

SCSU finished the season strong, while UNO swooned. Plus bloggers on both the collegehockeynews and USCHO websites are picking SCSU to win this series. I'm jumping on that bandwagon.

St. Cloud wins the series on Sunday night and ends the season for the Corncows. Go Huskeys!

Here's what I posted in response to the USCHO bloggers on this topic:

"Yeah, and in those last eight games where they are "flying", SCSU has played Alaska Anchorage, Wisconsin, Michigan Tech, and Minnesota-Duluth (collective 61-65-14).

UNO, on the other hand, over the same time span, has played Michigan Tech, Colorado College, Minnesota, & Denver (collective 77-55-11).

Swap schedules and then we'd see who is "flying" and who is not. Comparing the results of the last 8 games for these two teams as the basis for how this weekend is going to go is ridiculous.

SCSU may prevail, but, they haven't played anything close to the schedule UNO has over the last 8 games."

Well I agree with you on that one. Good guys 4 - UNO 0. St. Cloud breaks their "0 for the world" record against UNO.

Motzko ****ed off that Walters gives out a vicious CFB at the end of the game and doesn't get a DQ. Shepherd not willing to enforce. Lyons thinks Walters was bush league and chippy.

Buddy will take me to St. Cloud on Sunday for a game 3, if necessary. But not too interested in rooting for the Corncows tomorrow.

They havent played the schedule UNO has for the last eight games because SCSU already played their tough games. SCSU had the toughest schedule in the WCHA, so not quite sure where this is coming from. Also, eight games might be a small sample size, but it is surely enough to try to predict a trend.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

I dont buy the attendance figures from last night. I was there and it looked like it was over half full, other than the student section on the south side. It was a decent crowd, especially factoring in spring break.

Granted. I posted elsewhere in the thread that I thought SCSU had played a tougher schedule than UNO has this season, by the way. I think I read somewhere that SOS for SCSU was like 16 and UNO's was like 33, or something like those numbers. Still, the only way I see any comparison is if the two teams had played the same 4 teams down the stretch, which they did not. For those last eight games, I am sure UNO would have gladly traded schedules with SCSU if given the choice.

I didn't see or even get to listen to the game last night due to familial matters but it sounds like it was something of a replay of our DU game last Friday night. Those are the only two poor performances by UNO, really, in the last 9 games. We'll see what the guys are made of tonight. This team has zero upperclassmen leadership and I am not holding my breath. Our power play continues in it's utter futility. 3 total shots on 2 power plays? Coach Blais, in today's paper, called out the players on the poor shot quality taken, in general, as well. I think we may be done. If it goes badly for UNO I would not be shocked to see some fisticuffs tonight, either. I think this team is very frustrated. Prime instigators on this team are Simonson and Turgeon, by the way. To shake things up, Coach Blais might have them goon it up, some, tonight. When your backs (and season) are against the wall......................

Sustr and Megna were getting chippy last night. UNO really turned it on in the second period, but were already down 2-0 at that point. They cant do that again tonight because the Huskies are really playing well right now. UNO had so many shots deflected out of play. I think they were just trying to get the pucks around the net, instead of waiting for an open shot.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

If UNO plays like they did Friday night, SCSU will sweep. . . . Oh, and if UNO plays like they did last night, someone better bring some bodybags - that was as physical a game I've seen out of UNO.

These statements (taken out of context in relation to the Denver series) seem to have an ominous correlation to what is about to happen tonight at the National Hockey & Event Center.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Huskies need to go for the throat tonight and end this series. I will be there as usual. GO HUSKIES!!!!!

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Troubling end to the game last night--CFB that the spineless refs (Derek Shepherd and Marco Hunt) don't call a DQ on the cheap shot given to Gravel from Walters. 1:02 left in the game, and idiot Walters tries to injure our best defensive defenseman. Then a cheap shot against Holka. . . With all the crack downs on shots from behind or to the head, and the WCHA officials refuse to punish the offenders.

Sure, UNO is frustrated. Sure they have lost 5 in a row. Is it the players or the overrated coach they have?
Play physical and tough, fine. But dirty play and intent to injure belongs in the NFL, not the WCHA.

Fisticuffs? Sure would make UNO's season, right? And have the Huskies without some players for the Final Five. This is a different SCSU team than previous years. They will not be intimidated with physical play. Bring it on, Mavericks. Rabey, Holka, Oliver, etc. will be waiting.
