WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

I'm trying to help out the cause... just started a twitter campaign.

#FillTheNHC

Home ice doesn't help as much if the arena is empty!

I bought four tickets this morning. Ticketmaster doesn't have the event listed yet, so you have to go through the box office.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

Playoffstatus.com has no bearing or relationship to Pairwise, according to a reply to a post I made in another thread by FS23. Something that I did not realize until he pointed it out.

Interesting. So what criteria is playoffstatus using and how can they even post their odds when they have no actual correlation to the way the teams are selected?

I would have figured they had some sort of spreadsheet that does every single possible outcome in the pairwise for the rest of the season and that is where they come up with that stuff. If they didn't do that I am not sure what they are doing.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

So since our season thread seems to have gone by the wayside and UNO fans have all run to their mavpuck site, I figured I'd put this here:

Ciske posted his All-WCHA team ballot online, he put Prochno and Faragher on the all-rookie team, and he left off Jensen and Hanowski completely. Jensen I think probably should've made a 3rd team, but whatever, he regressed a little at times during the season, but if Hanowski gets left off that's ridiculous. Only Nelson and Zucker had more conference goals, and Hanowski also finished third in highest percentage of conference goals score for his team just shy of 21% behind Nelson and George. Considering that the team was picked in the coach's poll to finish 7th, two of their three captains play a combined 12 conference games, they've had forward injuries up the wazoo, a couple defections and they still scrape by for home ice, I think that a lot of the credit has to go to Ben. And Hanowski scores 18 conference goals, nobody else on the team had more than 8... I just don't buy any argument against him not making any of the top 3 teams.

I have to agree with you that Hanowski needs to be on that list. Its hard to imagine what the Huskies would have been without Hanowski this year. Hearing players talk about his leadership and play, you could make the case he was the spark that provided some clutch wins this season.

Here is the post by FS23 in the Bracketology thread, in response to me, that sorta addresses the topic. He does not say what their ranking criteria/system is, though. Just that it is different from Pairwise and he cites a glaring example of the difference(s) as well.

I can see leaving Hanowski off because while he finished tied for 3rd in goals, he was 12th in points in conference play.
That could factor in for some voters.
Jensen should make it though, he's 3rd among defensemen in points.

I think this is one of those times you don't base your vote completely on goals and assists. There were many reasons beyond the all important point total that he deserves to be on the list. Although I'm sure for many voters point totals are the biggest part of the decision process.

Being third in goals is not easy especially when everybody is focusing on Ben10. He doesn't have the guys around him like other players in the league do because of injuries.

Yes it is the biggest part because outside of a few voters, most only saw Hanowski play at most 4 times in a 28 game season.
I think he deserves to be on the team, I'm just saying I can see why people would leave him off if they are only looking at numbers, especially if SCSU only played their team twice.

Name one guy on Ciskie's list that shouldn't be there then. If you think Hanowski is a top nine guy, tell us who isn't. FLTL does have a point. When there are eleven other guys ahead of someone in points, it's pretty hard to justify giving the guy in twelfth a spot over the guys sitting in ninth, tenth, and eleventh.

The voters for the All-WCHA team follow the league a lot closer than I. It doesn't look good for your guy when I can name ten forwards, other than Hanowski, that I would put on the all conference team.

Jensen is a bit of a mystery. I'm guessing there is more to being on the defensive team that just scoring.

Re: WCHA First Round - UNO at SCSU

All league teams are based on just conference play so he is tied for 3rd with 23 points and finished a +6.

You're right, my rushed mistake. Interesting to read the ballots posted by Blogger voters such as Ciske and Puckato. They all have a homer aspect to them and make "apologies" to Hanowski and Jensen for not putting them on an All-WCHA team. Not putting Jensen on at least a third team considering his points, playing time, and SCSU's low goals against numbers is unacceptable.

Next week SCSU has second round interviews with the three remaining candidates in the AD search process.

I'll take Hanowski over all the following: Jaden Schwartz, Mark Zengerle, Nick Bjugstad and Oleksuk... that's right, the guy the homer Ciske had on his 1st team. With Schwartz, that was the second highest scoring team in the WCHA, and that helps him rack up assists, and his 5 more points is impressive, but six more goals than Jaden isn't minor... its half of Jaden's. Hanowski scored 150% of the goals Jaden did, even highe percentage than Zengerle's 11. B-Jugs had less goals AND points than Hanowski on a higher scoring team, and Oleksuk benefitted from playing on that team a lot and you shouldn't be a first team forward if you are 3rd on your team in goals and points.

I'd have gone 1st Team Nelson, Zucker, J. Conn, 2nd Team D. Shore, Hanowski, and Brown and 3rd team Rylan Schwartz, B-Jugs and Oleksuk.

I don't want him to make any of the WCHA teams this year in hopes he stays one more year. he can win every award out there next year and I won't care one bit.:)

If that motivates him to stay I'm right there with you.
