WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

True, but that's ONE game sir. The Gophers did not execute well tonight. Put this same team in click mode and their D has holes. They're not that good, but they executed their game plan better than the Gophs. tonight...period To make a claim that UAA is one of the best defensive teams in all of D1 is asinine to say the least.
I was just looking for a chance to get that stat in. :) AA did a great job clogging the slot and standing MN up on the blue line.....and when a team does that long passes and carrying the puck don't work.
MN does lead the league in pretty passes attempted when there is a quality shot opportunity.

Good PK, decent D set, obviously not unbeatable though or you wouldn't be at Mariucci.:D But one of best defensive teams in D1? How do you intend to measure that?
Goals against would be the easiest way to measure a team's defensive prowess. You could also throw in shots allowed per game and PK percentage to round things out.

Hilariously, the bubble situation has not changed. Of course, what has changed is MN has to win the next two games to have *any* shot at the NCAA tourney.

Blocked shots is a hard stat to track because it isn't always reported. But the Seawolves have consistently blocked close to 20 shots per game. They've had their share of lapses over the course of the season and even in the 2nd half but overwhelmingly they've given it up big time in their own zone. You wouldn't know that because you haven't watched them play more than 3 times and one of those nights was one of the lapses.

When you combine a 92%+ PK with a group of players that block 20 shots a game in the toughest league in D1 then it is far from unreasonable to call them "one of the best" defensive teams. Perhaps I should have said "right now" they are one of the best defensive teams. But anyone other than someone looking to **** on something I've said would grant that context before responding.

You mean something like "UAA is one of the best defensive teams in D1" vs "UAA is one of the best defensive teams now"?

Just saying.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Team defense:
32 UAA 2.91 GAA

PK
15t UAA 84.1%

Shots allowed: 26.5 / gm (don't know where this ranks)

The stats that Minnesota showed on the TV screen tonight listed UAA's penalty kill at 90 or 91%

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Now you lost me. Except Olimb. Apparently, there's ALWAYS a lot of time left to correct things.
The only thing that got me was the "The Marrucci is bigger than UAA's home rink..." Nice research buddy.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Of course you are. Which is why I said

Thanks for proving me right.

You also said "context." Right now, I agree that they are top of the class in D1. No argument. For the season? They are not. You brought up context, and you didn't bring up consistency over the season, which you basically admitted in your own post. You are trying to work both angles for you. Doesn't work that way. Try again.

Over the last (x) amount of games. I don't recall how many games it was, IIRC, it was over their winning streak, or winning streak + a couple games. Which brings me to my counter to uaafanblog's post.

Contradict yourself much? So we should take your word for it that blocked shots are 20 per game since they are unreported? That's sounds valid.:D

You wouldn't know that because you haven't watched them play more than 3 times and one of those nights was one of the lapses.

You must like going out on a limb again and again. So now you know how many UAA games I've watched?:D You don't have a clue but it entertains me.:D

PK is a special teams stat, and is typically not considered when measuring overall scoring D. But I won't expect you to know that. You still haven't proved anything "right now" that validates your ludicrous statements.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Yes. Let's make this thread all about what I said in one sentence instead of focusing on how the team you follow played exactly the same way as a Troy Jutting coached team. Though Lucia said many of the right things, the players on your team didn't have that in their minds. If they had, then maybe they wouldn't have spent the whole game doing nothing but focusing on the offensive side of the puck. Let's not talk about how the Gophers gave up four goals.

Let's not talk about how Aaron Ness could have prevented the 3rd UAA goal simply by hustling back on the power play when the puck was shoved up through the middle unexpectedly. Go back and look at that on the replay and you'll see him pitching a little fit and demanding that Patterson give him the puck.

Let's not talk about any of that. Instead, let's do what happens everytime I've ever posted in any Gopher thread on any forum since the year 2000 and make the thread about me. Trust me, I'm happy to do that. I'm not here to "prove" anything to you. I made a statement about the team I follow closely and you don't. I followed it up with an explanation about the context. But that wasn't good enough for you. Because you still sniff a chance to **** on something I'm saying. Keep at it then. And use MoAr facetious smileys too.

You make it about you.

90% of the college hockey fans (Gophers, Sioux, UAA, other) blamed it on Patterson. And they were right. Until he had the puck, it was not on him. However, him gaining possession of the puck negated anything that happened previously. Once he had the puck, anything he did was a credit or fault on HIM.

MN played pure offense tonight, and it backfired. Badly. UAA played their game, and won. They didn't have to play well, they had to play well enough. And they did. Frankly, the score shoulda been 5-2 or so.

And you made a false statement about UAA being the best or one of the best D-cores in D1, overall. Nope. In the last 10 games, they are. Season-long? They are not. And yet you bring up posting comments out of context. Take a look in the mirror.

I think I can definitely say BOX! on this one.

But of course, you'l try to spin it. And believe me, I'm not a hater. There are bigger idiots than you that I've given more credit to. You are just making it so easy the way you keep digging yourself into a hole.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Maybe if you actually saw the two games these teams played this season against each other, you'd realize how badly outplayed UAA was. They were very fortunate to be able to ride their goalie to a split; he stole the 2nd game, no ifs ands or buts about it.

Gophers badly outplayed UAA? Nope not tonight.

UAA outworked the Gophers, had more shots on goal, and was no supprise that UAA had more goals.

Was a bit supprised that the Gophers were able to score three goals against Chris Kamal, the UAA goalie who has been awsome in the net lately.

Maybe tomorrow UAA wil get the shutout. Go Seawolves!

Wow. Moron. He was talking about the two previous games. Not tonight's. Try again.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

So will Saturday be Lucia's last game behind the Gopher bench or will he return again next season.

Many happy returns coach Lucia.:rolleyes::p
