WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Congrats to UAA. They made us try and adjust, and we didn't. Wehrs, thank Parise this was your last game. At least you went out doing what you do best: *ing up.

UAA's strategy of playing 6 goalies worked. Pathetic effort by MN.

Let the coaching speculation begin.

If I'm not mistaken, the last time UAA was at the F5, they played UND, and there was almost a goalie fight?

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

1st off, congrats to UAA. They earned and deserve their spot in St. Paul. Good luck.

On another note, Doug Woog missed the NCAA tournament 2 years in a row after a decade of success and couldn't keep his job. Lucia will now have missed it 3 years in a row after a decade of success. Woog shouldn't have kept his job then, and Lucia shouldn't keep his now.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

Congrats seawolves!
Great season to the gophers, glad to see Bjugstad tearing it up at the end of the season he will have a fine collegiate and professional career!

tDon is the first coach in 40 years to miss the NCAA's 3 years in a row, from what I heard tonight.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

I'm happy for UAA. Rest of the WCHA got what they wanted too. It'll be a little less full but for those that made it have fun at the Final Five.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Very, very proud of the men in green and gold tonight. Excellent, hard-working weekend of hockey for Anchorage. Also, Kamal's something really special.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Tough season ending home and series loss for the Gophers tonight, but a well played series by the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. UAA ate pucks all weekend, capitalized on turnovers, got stellar goaltending from Gopher killer Kamal and played a near perfect D game. Meanwhile the Gophers seemed flat, frustrated and relapsed into their early season mediocrity and inconsistency throughout the series. Officially UAA blocked 25/60 shot attempts and stifled the Gophers scoring attempts all game. The only line that seemed to me to have any edge and spark this weekend was the checking/energy line of Serratore/Sacchetti/Miller.

Overall, a very sudden and disappointing end to another tortured, inconsistent season for the Gophers. The clamor for Lucia's head will inevitably reach high decibel levels throughout the off season. Most fans seem to agree big changes are necessary to restore the former glory of this dismal and uninspired program. I'd like to see a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, but I doubt Maturi will go down that road. At the very least John Hill needs to go elsewhere.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

When UAA wins the series, will Donald be coming to the F5? Or will he just keep all the donated money to throw a Charlie Sheen-Style Extravaganza?

So since the original answer to this question seemed to be in jest, I re-ask it.

Very entertaining stuff.

third straight season without an NCAA bid and a second straight without advancing to the WCHA Final Five
None of next year's Gopher players will have NCAA tournament experience. And only the seniors on next year's team will have Final Five experience.:o

first time Minnesota ended its season on its home ice at 18-year-old Mariucci Arena, which was half empty by the time Lucia pulled goaltender Kent Patterson
For the seniors must have been tough knowing that that none of their fans stuck around at the end of their last game as a Gopher.:(

Asked how he believes the Gophers can reclaim their traditional perch as one of college hockey's elite programs, Lucia said: "Now's not the time to talk about that."
Not very reassuring! Have a feeling Don better come up with an answer to that question ASAP.

Minnesota hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since 2007, and with leading scorers Barriball, Jacob Cepis and Hoeffel set to graduate this spring, next season could be another tough one — especially if the pattern of early defections continues.
None of the Gopher players have ever won an NCAA game!

Asked about whether he was worried about his job security, Lucia, with one year left on his contract, demurred. "I'm not going to talk about that right now," he said.
Have a feeling someone other than Lucia will come up with an answer to that question.:p

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Look on the bright side, at least one team will be practicing for the Final Five at the Minnesota Campus this week...

(Sorry, I have to get one shot in...)

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Congrats to the Seawolves on the sweep. You guys stuck to your game plan and it worked great, it seems Shyiak really gets his players to buy into the system, good luck at the F5.

I will still be going to the F5 but will root for UAA while there as my team sucks a-s-s and won't be there again.
