Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota
go Gophers!!
go Gophers!!
Exactly! All this Gopher playoff run talk is idiotic.
Honestly, go away! No one here is overlooking AA. We are hoping for a sweep and driftryder is looking forward to what could be a playoff run should the Gophers sweep this weekend, get to St. Paul, and hopefully secure an NCAA bid in the process. I don't think anyone here is saying anything is a done deal(only jokingly if they are). I wouldn't be suprised by any outcomes this weekend in the WCHA aside from the Tech/sue series. Please kindly leave us alone now and go cheer for AA elswhere so we can discuss this series.
And by "discuss this series" of course you mean "examine all the potential Gopher pairwise implications" and "imagine who the Gophers might play in the Final Five".Please kindly leave us alone now and go cheer for AA elswhere so we can discuss this series.

Am I mistaken, or does this series have a lot to do with all of that?
Right. Cause any team like the Gophers with no offense, defense, or goaltending couldn't possibly make a run. Hockey is that one sport where strange things never occur and there never are any upsets. Ever.
{sigh}
I don't think any Gopher fan is so myopic to believe that there isn't a chance the Seawolves could win the series.
As for insight, I gave mine early on in the thread. UAA is big, strong, and tough defensively. Minnesota is going to have to beat them with the two guys they have that are just as big and more skilled. Bjugstad and Hoeffel. I think Lucia has it right as well. Minnesota is going to have to get the puck deep consistently. When they didn't execute that properly they lost. UAA as far as I can tell mitigates the speed advantage with sound disciplined defense. So, to open up the ice Minnesota is going to have to fight fire with fire to get a lead and then the gates should open up.
As for the PWR, it feels good to be talking about it at least. After the Duluth series most rational Gopher fans figured they had no shot at a berth.
{sigh}
math reports indicate that Minnesota could still get an at large berth
make a run at the F5!
Entering the F5, they'd be somewhere very close to the bubble. Winning the QF game and losing the SF probably is enough to get them in, albeit barely. Making a run to the title game gets them into the tournament far more comfortably, perhaps as a #3 seed.
MN is still alive for an at-large if they win 2 of 3, but it complicates things greatly and places more emphasis on games elsewhere.
No you wouldn't - because that'd eliminate the chance of MN facing UND in the Friday night game. The F5 isn't the same when there isn't a game featuring 19,000 angry fans yelling at each other inside/outside the X.
Thursday at the final 5. #3 seed vs #6 seed and #4 seed vs #5 seed. I thought I heard Woog say the winner of the #4 and #5 seed plays the #2 seed is this correct? I hope thats right. It would be much more satisfying to punish North Dakota in the Championship game rather than a semi. That is if North Dakota makes it to the Championship game.
If #1 has to play #3, that is retarded. I would hope they would re-seed after the first round to ensure proper alignment. Then if there is upsets, so be it.
Do I have it right?
I have it as the winner of #3 v #6 plays #2, and the winner of #4 v #5 plays #1. No re-seeding after Thursdays' games.
Wrong. We are fully aware that we won't be crowned until April 9th at the X.
Which isnt really all that unlikely, to be honest. Throw in a couple % chance that UND miraculously doesnt make it and its probably something like 75/25 that Gophers play UND on Friday night as opposed to someone else.
Correct.
Now, we want BU to win on Saturday, and then NE to win on Sunday. Reason being:
BU losing out of the HEA playoffs at this point gives Minny the compare with them should we sweep the Seawolves. However, we don't want NE to sweep, because that would make them a TUC. If they become a TUC, that helps New Hampshire's record vs TUCs to such an extent that Minny can no longer win the UNH compare.
Complicated enough for ya??
Well, I'd say in some ways you're correct Scooby and in some ways you aren't. There definitely is some myopia. It hasn't overwhelmed the thread.
Beside, the UND fans have already decided that UND has already won it, they are just arguing over on suesports whether the team should get invited to the white house, or to the Canadian Prime Ministers place after they win.
Well, every fanbase has issues. Still, I'd rather have Gopher fans talking about the math then not talking about it. I'm a little scared about tonight. I'll get to see it live and frankly they've stunk most of the times I've been there this year. I won't feel confident either way. I think UAA could steal games 2 and 3 if they need to. Even against Bemidji last weekend the Gophers showed their inconsistent nature.

Maybe if you actually saw the two games these teams played this season against each other, you'd realize how badly outplayed UAA was. They were very fortunate to be able to ride their goalie to a split; he stole the 2nd game, no ifs ands or buts about it.Typical Gopher fan. Thinking that the Gophers own this series and UAA is trying to steal it away from the Gophers.
Dope.Typical Gopher fan. Thinking that the Gophers own this series and UAA is trying to steal it away from the Gophers.
The series is up for grabs and whichever team works the hardest will likly earn the victory.
Go Seawolves!
