WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

The current status on Aaron Ness and Taylor Matson is day to day. Lucia said Wed. that Ness is actually further along in his recovery than Matson. Matson was limping pretty bad after last weekend.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

For UAA it appears the only injury is the existing sprained knee to Matt Bailey. He was injured against UNO on Feb 18th but started skating this week. He didn't make the trip for this series but is expecting/hoping to be ready for Final Five action.

That is assuming all the higher seeds win this weekend.
Assuming UND advances out of the first round, at least two teams out of the UNO, DU, and UMD group would have to get knocked out this weekend for MN to avoid facing UND in the Friday semifinal (which of course also assumes MN advances that far).

Don't waste any heartfelt sentiments on them because when they look into the rafters of the National Concrete Center they don't feel sorry for you.

I know, typical gopher fans, they only care about theirselves and their team. They're just, for the most part, not hockey fans, just gopher fans. Someday they may see the light and become recovering gopher fans. Then, of course, they'll become Mankato fans.

That is all you got? You are losing your touch.

Which isnt really all that unlikely, to be honest. Throw in a couple % chance that UND miraculously doesnt make it and its probably something like 75/25 that Gophers play UND on Friday night as opposed to someone else.

Any official word on where the game can be found tomorrow night?

So, no reason to be a scsu fan, ever.

Someone posted an alternate channel schedule on GPL, and here, too.

I think it was 692 on Comcast in Cake-Eater Country.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Correct.
Now, we want BU to win on Saturday, and then NE to win on Sunday. Reason being:
BU losing out of the HEA playoffs at this point gives Minny the compare with them should we sweep the Seawolves. However, we don't want NE to sweep, because that would make them a TUC. If they become a TUC, that helps New Hampshire's record vs TUCs to such an extent that Minny can no longer win the UNH compare.
Complicated enough for ya??:)

This weekend think gritty plays not pretty plays. Both teams are coming into this WCHA first round playoff weekend with a full tank and the petal to the metal. UAA outscored MSUM 8-1 last weekend in their own house. The Gophers are riding high on a 7 game unbeaten streak. There’s little doubt this hardnosed, chippy series will be bump and grind. Playoff time often means close games possibly an OT. And the stage is set for another Patterson vs. Kamal (co-WCHA Rookie of the Week with Nick Bjugstad) goalie duel.

UAA will be taking their D posture seriously by keeping guys back and boxing out around the net. The Gophers have the speed advantage and forcing UAA into a transition game will yield dividends. Other keys for the Gophers are using their speed and cycling to find the shooting lanes, and camping guys like Hoeffel, BjugBeast and Hansen in front for screens, rebounds, throwing elbows, spitting on UAA D and popping in garbage goals.

Kent Patterson is having a Gopher MVP season and in my view should have been elected to the All WCHA first team, not Dell. My crystal ball says he’ll be the number one star this weekend with another stellar performance. The Gophers will grind out two consecutive wins vs. a tough UAA squad for their final games at Mariucci.

Go Gophers!!
