WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong if the Gophers play three games this weekend they do not make the NCAA as an at large bid? If so the season is over and we might not see Don Lucia as the head coach next year. Granted he still has one year left on his contract I just don't believe Maturi will let him go. He would rather have the next AD do that.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

There is the season sumed up tonight, better luck next year. I dont see us winning the F5 and it will be tough even getting there. We would have to win 2 in a row and that is going to be a tough task. It was a good come back but not very good play tonight, the boys got out played tonight.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

UAA capitalized on just about every MN mistake to win. MN played like crap, looked like crap, even Patterson gave a goal away on a bonehead play. If MN plays like this tomorrow, the score will NOT be this close.

Congrats on the win, UAA. I really hope I don't have to congratulate you once more.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Good game by the Seawolves. They definitely deserved the win tonight. I am glad I didn't have to watch that train wreck. Come on Gophers, show up tomorrow night like there is actually something to play for (because there is!!!)

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Good comeback effort by the Gophers, but they shot themselves in the foot and didn't take care of the puck tonight. A Patterson turnover, a stupid late Haula penalty in the offensive zone, D lapses and poor overall offensive execution all game sunk the Gophers. To their credit, UAA played a strong D game as expected by blocking shots, closing seams, pulled some offense out of the hat, and capitalized on dumb Gopher turnovers, penalties and bad execution. Gopher shot attempts were there, but UAA D gave the body and blocked a ton of shots. Hansen played hard tonight...the penalty shot was awesome. Barriball had the tie with 8 seconds left and hit the post...game over.

Gophers need to clean this up and come back tomorrow night with desperation.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

UAA played their game tonight just like against Mankato. Minnesota was a better team and certainly UAA made it a nervewracking one but what a dumb penalty by Minny. Dutch is Clutch and you can't give him a chance like that.

I'm happy but one more to go...

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

UAA played 1-1-3 for most of the 3rd, from what I could tell, and still put more pressure on MN than MN on UAA. That right there is embarrassing.

I think a lot of the freshman played a little nervous and tight tonight though.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Yep. Season's done pretty much unless they get to the title game at the Final Five. Snowball's chance in hell now. Only one team that played tonight cared about winning.

Dartmouth, Maine, WMU lost, BSU won. Things are tightening up in the RPI. We still have a shot.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

The Gophers single-minded focus on trying to score was their downfall tonight. Mankato made the same mistake last weekend. When you've got five skaters on the ice and none of them are focusing on the defensive side of the puck you aren't going to win against a team that plays defense first and does it well. The Seawolves are one of the best defensive teams in the league and maybe in all of D1.

And oh yeah ... Larry Olimb is a tool.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

Wow, UAA controlled all but about 15 minutes of the game. MN needs to keep the puck low offensively if they want success, UAA is too quick on the defensemen on the point & block force way too much dinking around with the puck.

Good PK, decent D set, obviously not unbeatable though or you wouldn't be at Mariucci.:D But one of best defensive teams in D1? How do you intend to measure that?

Wally said MN attempted 68 shots & something like 25 got thru. That is impressive.

You had me....

Now you lost me. Except Olimb. Apparently, there's ALWAYS a lot of time left to correct things.

True, but that's ONE game sir. The Gophers did not execute well tonight. Put this same team in click mode and their D has holes. They're not that good, but they executed their game plan better than the Gophs. tonight...period To make a claim that UAA is one of the best defensive teams in all of D1 is asinine to say the least.

Re: WCHA first round: UAA @ Minnesota

I'm very pleased with UAA's resiliency tonight after the Gophers tied it up. Tomorrow they neet to stay out of the penalty box. Gorham took 3, half of UAA's penalties tonight. Gotta move the feet and stay out of the box.
