WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

I don't live in St. Cloud either, its not a place you wanna stick around when you're done with school. And I'd rather buy you a keg than compliment tUMD. :D We can either wait on the collection, or I can perhaps sneak you a beer at the F5.

Wait... nevermind... your age won't matter. When SCSU trounces your Dogs, you can just give me the money, I can buy the beer for myself. :D

Hahaha funny funny...I was just thinking that would work because then I'd get to make you put your NCAA tournament record on your banner :D I'm sorry that's a low blow. But the way things are being picked by just about everyone we'd be playin' each other to get to the F5. However it works out, I'm game for a little alcoholic wager.

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

if Tech won once in awhile at St Cloud those seats would be a little more comfortable. and, it seems, every time we are there its 102 degrees below zero.

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

MTUs barn an issue?? huh?? our locker room and training facilities are among the best. and the arena itself is way better than SCSU, UMDs and certainly on par with Mankato. in many ways it is better than the half filled huge arena CU plays in and the terrible design of DUs arena (non existent site lines). and lets not even go there with UAA.
So if by CU you mean CC and by half filled you mean 90% that's spot on. If on the other hand your just talking out your *** then, wow. Last year CC averaged 6,637 with a capacity of 7,343. Tech on the hand averaged 2,463.

Right on brother! Appears Husky fan needs help. At least we can name his school which is Michigan Tech. CU? What is a CU?

Go Tigers!!

By the way, Colorado College was fourth in the nation in attendance (tickets sold) last season. I don't want to even guess where Mich Tech was on that list.

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

I don't like the NHC because some of the seats don't have backs on them. I mean, really, I don't need leather, rosewood armrests and iced beer but a plastic bench just doesn't cut it.

The only seats that don't have seat backs are in the upper level in the corners. I thought I heard the renvations are going to take care of that.

for the record I like Tech's rink, but to say it is some how nicer than the NHC is pushing it big time. Any way the rink is not why Tech finished 9th or 10th every year. They could build the ralph 2 in Houghton and they still wouldn't finish in the top five.

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

Those that are saying SCSU's rink will be nicer than any rink "not named the Ralph," including the new BREC, might not have seen the video tour:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-Lo_lS8TQY

Who said it would be nicer? motzko said it would be as nice as all the other arena's except the Ralph. Until it gets done and we all see it I can't really know how nice it will be. The video of the NHC, Brec and new DECC all look awesome. As long as a teams arena is in the ball park the recruiting advantage should be pretty equal.

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

SCSU could build a Ralph clone and you still would find some way to rag on it.:D

Wrong, sporto. If and when I go to other arenas, I judge them separately from the team that plays there. MacInnes was (and is currently) better than the NHC.

The NHC is just.....crap. Better than BSU's current arena (don't get me started on that one) but that will probably change too, with their new arena.

The thing that bothers me about Bemidji's new arena is that it seems very cooking cutter. I've been in an arena designed by the same architecture firm and the whole layout is eerily similar, albeit scaled to a different capacity.

Re: WCHA 2010-'11 through '14-'15 "rival pairs" announced

yeah yeah, CC CU DU whatever! blame alzheimers. or wine. I've been to many games at CC and the arena always seems half full to me. but I know what you're going to say ... because they were playing Tech. Plan to test that theory out in a few weeks.

I don't think the NHC is crap, it's just different. None of the rinks in the WCHA are crap...they are just different. Most would say tDECC sucks, but I like being up off the ice. Also, it's got a pretty wicked view of the lake.

From the pictures of Tech's new rink, it looks pretty nice. The point made about having to pay for their own stuff from donations makes it equally as impressive.

The point is, just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people won't. You're entitled to that opinion, but just try to get why someone might say they like it. Plus, it's college hockey. As long as it's a rowdy student atmosphere, I think we could agree that it doesn't really matter what the rink looks like. You're still gonna have fun. :D

 Why don't you break down both arena and fill me in sporto. I haven't seen the improvements to Macinnes, but I have been there twice and the place was not nice and the atmosphere sucks when the place is half emtpy 90% of the games.

As a Misfit's eBoard member we don't take the atmosphere issues lightly and we are trying improve the atmosphere again after it had sharply declined during the past year or so.

I was there 8 and 10 years ago, but i don't think the schools average crowd has increased that much over the last decade. Again, I don't dislike the rink at all. It had a certain old school/small town charm I liked. The band was great, but when the barn is basically empty it's not exactly a hard atmosphere to play in for the visting team. The rink is what a little over half the size of the NHC and very plain? A lot like the NHC is. In my opinion the overall experience is much better at the NHC. I realize when MNU or winter carnival are going on it is different, but 3 games a year does not make a great arena.

Atmosphere has nothing to do with whether or not a place is a dump. The new can get pretty quiet at times, yet most would agree it's one of the finest arenas in the country.

Yes it does? Atmosphere is the overall ambiance of the arena. It's a culmination of fans, players, and facilities. If you've got a crappy arena, and I'm not saying tech's is, with things like bad sightlines, uncomfortable seats, etc. it affects the mood of the fans, and therefore hurts the atmosphere.

Macinnes wasn't nice when I was there either. I don't think the NHC is anything special either, but to say it is a dump is a joke.
