UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

Nice to see Stalberg maybe getting a chance to play with Sharp - potentially on the same line

Two of the best UVM players in the last decade along with Mitchell

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

Today is 07/17/10.
There are 83 days until DU's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of the regular season
77 days until the first exhibition.

Thought it would be nice to copy the Denver University time clock to their next game - which is vs. UVM at the Gut. Finally, less than 3 months....

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

What is that all about? Is there any noise on some of the recruits not arriving as planned?

The Victory Club golf fundraiser yesterday managed to stay dry despite downpours north and south of the course.

I'm calling that a good omen for the upcoming hockey season.

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

Lets at least post some speculative lineups for opening night.

Stacey-Stahlberg-Downing
Burrows-Brickley-McCarthy
Pacan-Lenz-Nilson Roos
Marshall-Herrington-Leonard

I think white will eventually find his way into the lineup but not right off the bat. I think it will take a little more time for him to get used to the speed of play compared to the other freshman.

Miller-Mackenzie
Medvec-Lawson
Franzon-Herrington

Madore

I love that second pairing. Lawson really came on in the second half of last season and started becoming a force at both ends of the ice like he was 2 years ago. That would have to be the biggest D pairing in all of hockey east if not all the NCAA and they played together a for some time last season.

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

FYI - From USHR:
6'2", 185 lb. RD Michael Paliotta, a Westport, Conn. native who played with the U.S. Under-17 Team last season, will be coming back east for college, and attending the University of Vermont.

Paliotta, who played at Choate before joining the NTDP, has one more year in Ann Arbor before matriculating at UVM in the fall of '11.

Other schools in the picture for Paliotta were Michigan, Harvard, and BC.

A 4/16/93 birthdate, Paliotta played 50 games with the Under-17 Team last year and had a 2-12-14 line with 53 penalty minutes.

FYI - From USHR:

Thanks for posting boblav1. This looks to be a great pickup, beating out Michigan, BC, and Harvard (3 teams that have had great recruiting success lately) is always a good sign. Here is a link to the Ted Ryan article on the Burlington Free Press blog:

At the bottom, you will also see that Connor Brickley will be part of the US World Junior evaluation camp this summer....not sure of his chances to make the team, but he did impress the coaches during his prior tournaments with the US team.

That fall 2011 recruit class is looking awesome. Montagna, Anthoine, Forgione - the pizza line. Along with Markinson, Doerring, Luukko and now Paliotta
That class will be amazing if Girgensons is in it - and excellent even if he is not.

Sneddon and company are doing a great recruiting job. Very impressive, I predict fun times ahead for this program.

Matt White will be on one of the bottom two lines right from the start in my opinion based on two years of USHL seasoning and a dominating year of play albeit at a lower level of competition. You are going to love EVERYTHING about this kid...great size, tremendous attitude, awesome work ethic, and a true team player. Matt loves to use his body and he plays hard in the dirty areas of the rink to get things accomplished.

He will be a treat for the fans over the next fews years!

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

If White lives up to that billing this is going to be a very good team with a dynamic group of forwards the next few years - particularly as they add the fall 2011 and fall 2012 classes as they lose little in the next two seasons up front to graduation

they lose a lot on D at the end of this year to graduation but I think the strong forwards and good D recruits are going to make the transition to a more offensively driven team fun to watch for Cats fans

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

So where do we think the Cats will be in the preseason media and coaches polls in HE?

I'm guessing 6th in media; and 5th in coaches behind BC, Maine, BU, UNH

I think they are higher then that. UNH always have a strong team but they also have a question mark in goal.

BU played fair last year and lost a ton. They have a strong incoming class but still, preseason...

I think UVM is up there around 4th place. Like BU there were some losses but there is also a stong incoming class along with a now veteran goalie and defense.

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

2 months 9 days or 10 weeks exactly from tonight until DU shows up to start the regular season

Re: UVM Offseason Thread - building for a 3rd Straight Bid

Bump

And I recommend the NCAA allow college hockey to last the entire college year. First exhibition starting Sept 1 and NC game played May 15th. Okay May 1 to allow for exams. Up the number of games to 50 or so. :o

Alright fine, I'm just glum because there is no hockey and we still have nearly two months.

Maybe the UVM athletic dept could profile the players one a day leading up to the first game, something, anything...
