Utica University 2022-23: Is This The Year?

We were not #1 in the coaches poll when COVID shut the season down, Norwich was 1, Geneseo was 2, and we were 3 https://twitter.com/USCHO/status/1242155860241125377?s=20&t=DmoLj0vFZAJg59D-RdJ5XA

He might be referring to the Pairwise. I THINK Utica was in first in the pairwise when the season was shutdown. Can't recall. We were certainly robbed of what I believe was going to be a truly epic FF in Buffalo. Norwich and Utica both on a collision course looking like juggernauts and Norwich haven't not given up a goal in 9 straight games.

Utica was #1 in the PWR yes, they were the top seed in the tournament that was never played.

And yes, the Utica-Norwich national title game would have been epic

And let's not forget how good Geneseo was that year which had Conlan Kennan. And these were just the eastern teams.

I'm an old f**k, who has posted this sort of thing before, years ago... But here it goes again.

Bill Gray's Ice Complex is a Hockey Mecca, as far as Upstate goes. Four NHL-size rinks under one roof. Stinky pads in the walkways. a bar and grill where you can watch the Utica game while enjoying good pub-grub and a cold one. Midget/HS/whatever games going on all around the place, continually.

Funnest venue I've ever seen. Well worth the trip, which is about 2.5 hours from Utica, and almost all Interstate travel.

(And, Naz is looking pretty good. That team is ranked above even the perennial juggernaut that is St. Norbert, in the PW. I wouldn't be surprised is there's a split this weekend.)

Yeah, the Eastern field was absolutely loaded then.

Norwich didn't allow any goals, Genny scored at will, and UC kinda did both things.

I really liked UC's chances then. Best team I've seen here, and I haven't missed a game in 22 years.

125 tickets left as of this moment for tonight's game, so assuming with walkups, we'll have a sellout tonight

That building is about to be wild tonight

Utica with a bigger hold on the USCHO poll #1 spot, getting 15/20 1st place votes and a 295/300 cumulative score

The Pioneers can clinch the #1 seed in the UCHC with a sweep over King's at home this weekend, which would guarantee the road to the NCAA's runs through Utica once again

The important ranking is the Pairwise where Utica is number 2 which will pretty much lock them into the NCAA tourney. Glad they have the #1 Poll spot, but it really means nothing to the NCAA committee.

Did Fish get a new username?

No, but facts are facts. This poll is fun and a great moral booster for both the team and the fans. We all get caught up in the polls, but need to remember what really counts. At least with following the PWR we have more transparency of where the NCAA placements com from at tourney time. So much better than it used to be with the Sunday night Smoke Filled Room. And also, I do believe the team playing the best hockey at the end of the season represent their conference including the weak ones, aka Conference Tournament Champion, the same as almost every other sport at any level.

But those discussions about the smoke filled room were so much fun....especially the statements from the experts at RIT. :D

Haven't been to game there, Shabby, but I hear good things about it. Sure looked nice when I streamed a women's game from it the other day.

I wonder what the concessions are like there. Have you heard?
