Utica University 2022-23: Is This The Year?

Losing goalie, he lost 6-5 in 4OT in the playoffs

This game is also still the longest game in NCAA D3 history as well https://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/...hoc022710.aspx

Nice find! It’s interesting that they mention it as being the longest game in D3 history, eclipsing a Minn-Crookston vs MSOE game in 2002. However, Minn-Crookston was actually a D2 program that was bumming around in the old MCHA. Once Adrian and Concordia, WI started programs the MCHA gave Crookston the boot and the program folded.

I also remember Crookston being kinda a goon squad with at least one bench clearing brawl in their final season (maybe against Adrian?)

I thought you were referencing this game until I checked the year in the URL:

I remember watching SNC beat Adrian in the Harris Cup final, driving home through a snow storm (took me almost two hours to get home), and still getting home in time to watch the entire 3rd OT plus the minute or so of 4th OT before Augsburg finally ended this one.

Upon further reflection, I would say Adrian and Concordia starting up was the beginning of the end for Crookston and Lake Forest leaving the NCHA for the MCHA was the nail in the coffin. This is likely the same time the MCHA earned their autobid.

Looking at my program from the weekend, this BETTER be the year! Utica will graduate the vast bulk of its scorers this Spring.

I think that UU has a legit shot, but I'm not sold on the goal-tending. It's just not as dominant as it used to be.

With a Baggeta, a Dickson, a fill-in-the-blank from recent seasons, I'd be much more hopeful.

This coupled with the fact they are going D1

Another 2 win weekend. For a first year program, Alvernia is a scrappy, scrappy team

Onto Arcadia next weekend

Alvernia dresses something like 13 Fr and 5 So.

That team looks a lot better than its record already, and watch out for it going forward.

Something like Wilkes was before Covid.

In the poll that really matters, the RPI difference between Endicott (1) and us (2) is down to .0007 of a point, which is currently the difference between potentially hosting the Frozen Four or having to go somewhere else

If Utica wins-out, that sort of thing might take care of itself...

And as we say that, there was an adjustment to the PWR sometime yesterday/today, and Utica is the new #1 in PWR by .0003

Just by the width of a hair.

Tell ya what is incredibly stupid: siting teams on the basis of convenience.

If certain programs don't want to fly, fine, but the arbitrary mileage involved is amazingly ham-headed.

Astoundingly dumb/unfair.

Say we recognize which programs are willing to travel, and go from there..?

It has nothing to do with which teams want to travel or not.

The NCAA pays for everything in the national tournament. It's the NCAA that decides which teams travel or not based on the budget they have for the tournament.

Could the NCAA be a little flexible in the way they decide who flies and whether teams are willing to still bus? Perhaps. Not a bad idea. But, I still think there needs to be some limit somewhere, or decisions could be very controversial.

Not sure Utica can keep their razor thin PWR edge if Endicott beats Curry this weekend. I hope I'm wrong as I'd love Utica as the Finals venue with a Hobart-Utica matchup. Of course ,lots of hockey to play and many hopes crushed by then.

Personally, I’m hoping SNC is the highest remaining seed/PWR this season and hosts the D3 semifinals and final.
