Re: Utica to the SUNYAC? - Biggar's Column
Lets look 2 yrs (1.5 now) down the road assuming that the Saints decide not to, or are not allowed to, play for the D-III title and Utica is playing SUNYAC.
(a) The ECAC-E is OK with 8 members and an AQ
(b) The ECAC-W is without an AQ, without a Pool B, and is at the mercy of the selection committee to get an at at-large bid.
Math: 8 + 4 = 12 which when you divide by 2 does not give you enough for two AQ conferences.
Somebodies decide that the status quo is not viable.
OK, do we do this???? ( ) indicate travel partners:
ECAC Pretzel: A(Elmira, Hobart), B(Manhattanville, Neumann), C(Skidmore, Castelton)
ECAC CCCP: A(USM, UNE), B(Babson, UMB), C(NEC, Norwich)
Play your division 2x (10) and other 1x (6) = total 16 conference games
Schedule (these are not consecutive weeks, but who plays who on the conference weeks):
Week 1: PA @ PB CC @ PC CA @ CB
Week 2: PC @ PA PB @ CB CA @ CC
Week 3: PB @ PC CC @ CB PA @ CA
Week 4: CB @ PA; PB @ CC CA @ PC
Week 5: Travel Partners H & H
Week 6: CC @ PA PC @ PB CB @ CA
Week 7: PC @ CB PB @ PA CC @ CA
Week 8: CA @ PB PC @ PA CB @ CC
The rest of the weeks (spread out through the yr) you have your non conference games / tournaments / showcases.
Playoffs: top 4 each division - weekend 1 -- 1v4 and 2v3. Weekend 2: Higher in CCCP plays lower Pretzel; Higher Pretzel plays lower CCCP. Where? At highest survivor? or do we alternate between ECAC-P and ECAC-C??
This could become the strongest conference in the East. With UNE getting an Alfond rink, and the level of league, plus some classic venues, recruiting for the ECAC-Y(ankee) should be a snap. Unless we get total parity, there exists a strong possibilty of a Pool C bid.
