Oswego to Elmira is approximately 109 miles.

Buff State to Oswego is approximately 153 miles.

I actually only plotted the city center to city center (not arena to arena) in MapPoint, Oswego-Elmira route is essentually Rt 104 to Route 14, the Oswego-Buffalo State route is essentually Rt 104 to Route 14 to 90. I suspect actual distances to vary within 10-15 miles, but as hotel locations, etc are also not factored in, I figured it would be close enough.

Platty and Oswego weekend with 226 miles of travel between...would be a tough weekend for a lot of team...

I agree, and would propose a Friday evening - Sunday afternoon games -- COMMON in the "West".

Did all that legislation actually end up getting passed? I know it was up for consideration. But I know I just read the other day that RIT will be applying for a playup in Women's Ice Hockey after the moratorium ends in July...

I suspect this falls under a Title IX grandfather clause.

In fact, I always thought it would be a kicker if someone sued the NCAA for Title IX violations because they prevented equal opportunity for Divison I athletic participation at RIT.

Plattsburgh and Oswego would not be travel partners. Utica would be "closer" since it is almost all interstate. The Plattsburgh-Oswego distance through the Adirondacks.

Edit: Maquest shows 191 miles, 3:33 is you go south out of Plattsburgh and cut across the southern part of the Adirondacks on route 8 north of Lake George. It shows 218 miles and 3:51 minutes if you continue on south to Saratoga Springs. Maquest shows 220 miles and 4:35 between Oswego and Plattsburgh via northcountry.

Plattsburgh and Oswego would not be travel partners. Utica is 75 miles or so closer to Plattsburgh.

I thought the same thing when I looked at it. There is no way in heck those two should ever be paired together for travel partners for travel purposes and competitive purposes.

Oh what the heck just split the East region into two regions of about 24 or so teams each, with the SUNYAC anchoring one (CENTRAL) and the MSCAC anchoring the other (EAST)
Schools west of the Connecticut River in Mass and schools in Connecticut, NY, Penn., & Vermont would be in the Central region and form leagues there and the non MSCAC east teams would form leagues there.

I have seen plenty of eighteen wheelers on that route. I always go that way to Malone and then onto Potsdam if going to Canton or Ogensburg.

Yes, to save miles, and get the team home early enough to study and get to class on Monday. Unfortunately in a state as large as NY, it becomes quite difficult to find combinations that work for everyone. Fredonia & Plattsburgh are both in NY - 462 miles apart. In fact, believe it or not, from Ripley, NY to Plattsburgh, NY, it is 489 miles and from Ripley, NY to Montauk, NY it is 543 miles (going through Pennsylvania - 617 miles if you stay in state).

Seriously, though...........We have family in Hannibal MO; it is right at 1,000 miles from Utica and just over 1/4 of the trip in within the state of New York!

Absolutely: due to the deceptive shape of the state, it's very easy to overlook its dimensions from a practical driving standpoint. New York's max length and width are 330 and 283 miles, respectively; for reference, this is actually 20 and 23 miles, respectively, longer than Wisconsin. Add to this the fact that cutting across the state from many points is inhibited by two very large lakes. And then add to that the fact that a huge swath of the northern portion of the state is an enormous forest without high-speed highway access. It's simply a lot harder to get around NY than one might realize.
