Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Didn't Oswego have their ads still on the boards the last few seasons? I know there were NCAA logos on the ice and on the corner boards. And all over the building. :p

You may be correct. If I remember correctly, local ads may remain through quarter finals, but must be removed for the championship. The NCAA logo must be in place though.

The tickets are now available for purchase on Ticketmaster. It comes out to 12.60 a seat with the fees included.

And I believe any alcohol ads that can be seen in the arena must be covered.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Why is there a rule in place that prohibits the ads on the boards, around the arena and there having to be NCAA logo's on the ice and boards around the rink?

I personally think they're stupid rules. But why are they rules, for what purpose?

Just wondering because I'm clueless at this point in the season with anything.

It's the NCAA's show. They call the shots. Mere mortals don't get to question them

Exactly. You ever watch the NCAA men's basketball tournament? The NCAA logo is EVERYWHERE...even on the cups the players drink out of. Remember when they used to play on the home court of the school hosting a particular region? For example, when they play a regional final at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, they used to play on SU's court. No more. The NCAA brings in their own court, full of NCAA logos.

The NCAA doesn't want any company making a dime off of advertising that's not sanctioned by them.

Good point -- and here is the evidence (which means the Utica Aud doesn't need to cover up any ads, except for alcohol ads, possibly). The NCAA logo is present at center ice and on the corner boards.

So as not to offend the countless NCAA corporate sponsors either. Also, your home announcer is not allowed to show any different inflection on announcing home/visiting line-ups or announcing goals. Any sound effects played for the home team's goals must be played for the visitor's goals as well. They are trying to create as sterile environment as possible.

Now we're getting ridiculous here. Really?

Not to be a five year old here, but whose gonna make him? Is there a policing authority or NCAA official on hand to monitor all these rules?

Yes, and if you don't comply the NCAA will threaten to take away future hosting rights.... Middlebury was threatened by the NCAA years ago for their language and conduct..... If the school does not act, the NCAA can and has the right to pull the plug for future events. As you can see, they can do what they want, when they want, to who they want....in short...Don't **** them off.....

Want to read some rules:

NCAA Rules for Media Relations

The NCAA's Advertising and Promotional Standards

2012-13 NCAA Championships - Live Video Streaming Rights Policy

NCAA Live Statistics & Scoring Policy

Maybe I'll post more when I get back from work.

Wow, that's astonishing. But thank you for the information, unbelievable.

Although, you'll notice in that video that, aside from replays and the board saying "Goal", all the video screen shows is the NCAA Ice Hockey logo. I'm guessing no advertising allowed?

But yeah, PA announcer has to announce everything the exact same way for both teams, goal horns have to go for both teams' goals, NO ARTIFICIAL NOISEMAKERS ALLOWED, etc. If the road team decides to bring along a pep band (the NCAA doesn't pay for their travel, of course) and the home team has a pep band of their own, the two must be given equal playtime. That is also true of neutral site games (at the NCAA regionals in Albany a few years back, both RIT and Cornell brought their Pep Bands. They split breaks in play between the two, although there was one part where they played the same song together lol)

I'm sure if Plattsburgh were hosting we probably wouldn't hear the sponsorship announcements for the PP/PK either.

Well my Bears would be at a disadvantage if they ever host. ;)
