Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

They have UC #2 and Ozz#3 hosting playin games Wed night. #4 St John no playin game and a Saturday game ?????
Because Eau Claire and St. Norbert win the criteria over the rest of the Eastern teams (except Utica & Norwich). Why should 5 Eastern teams get byes to the QF, when the #3 & #4 teams nationally do not?? The 2 lower Western seeds don't figure in the who plays when, just the possible home teams.

It's a whole new season now. God I hope we don't have to play Bowdoin.

Utica shouldn't necessarily fear either Bowdoin or UM-D... Looking at the numbers, UC should get by either team.

What UC has to worry about is St. Norbert being in their bracket, if the Pioneers make it to Lake Placid. (And, more immediately,The Aud's bad ice on this coming Saturday.)

A choppy surface negates the skill-factor advantage, as we all saw vs. M'ville... I'm guessing that the place will be packed and too warm for any good ice to take hold by the time UC gets to play, and it's a fact that four HS games will have been played there that very day.

That situation could very well make for chaos, especially if any of the HS games go to OT. (Half of them usually do.)

And why would that be..? (Just asking.)

Because we knocked them off in the quarter finals in both 2010 and 2011. In 2010 we crushed them 9-2, in 2011 we beat them 7-5 although it wasn't nearly as close as the score indicates, SOG were 48-22 in Oswego's favor. Beckwith let in some really soft goals that game

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

UC will be a fairly heavy favorite, no matter which team it faces.

I doubt very much that Bowdoin is worried about how good Oswego was in '10 and/or '11, because they're looking at playing a team that has swept Oswego this season.

(And who's "we"?)

Looking at the numbers, UC should have gotten by Cortland and Elmira too. How did that work out?

Numbers mean nothing now...

Didn't Utica beat Oswego 6-0 this year ??

That was then, this is now. The seedings and pairings have been set up, so now every game you've played before is rendered utterly meaningless. Play your next 3 games like you did against Oswego, and you'll be hoisting a trophy at the Herb Brooks Arena. Play even one of them (or even PART of one of them) like you did in Cortland, and you can kiss that dream goodbye.

Didn't Cortland beat Utica 5-0 this year?

What does that have to do with anything? My point was you can't look at numbers and decide that anyone will beat anyone else.

That's why they play the games.

Congrats to Utica & AUD & NCAA working together to schedule a quarter final game. Utica earned them right to host the game. Has an anticipated start time for the NCAA game been reported?

To be honest, I would have rather seen the Polar Bears get another shot at Oswego, not because they are an 'easier' opponent but because it would be nice to erase the last two memories of the Lakers. That 2010 game was embarrassing even under the tough circumstances (two top players out and a hurt goaltender). 2011, like OSU2010 said, was not as close as the score. Any way you slice it, 16 goals in 2 NCAA games is total domination by the Lakers. I think this year's Bowdoin team is much stronger than those last two though, maybe I'll get my wish in Lake Placid.

As for Utica being heavy favorites... if UMD gets by Bowdoin, yeah probably. If Bowdoin prevails on their home ice Wednesday, not so much. You could argue that a stronger SOS prepares a team better for post season play, but once the puck drops, you don't get points for SOS. Either team Utica hosts next weekend will have a conference title under their belt this year, something Utica was unable to do. Utica earned the right to host a QF game this season, don't get me wrong, but there are few 'heavy favorites' once the dance begins.
