Very true on all that. I agree, but I think from seeing some of Oswego's performances this year, I'm hoping we're able to get past them again this year like last year. This year on 12/7 Utica is at the Campus Centre... and we're bringing a bus of Utica fans up there for the game, so that game should be even more fun ;)

Sidenote: When I heard Whitelaw got a sprain/hurt in the game the other day I was praying he'd be out for the season :p ...Close, but no cigar for this UC fan.

I don't care if you're joking or not. That is completely and utterly uncalled for and classless to wish for a player to be injured for the season.

Grow up.

When I read his quote earlier I was going to say something, but was so PO'd I just closed the thread!!!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

#9 in country ! Highest ever ranking ???

Quite sure that they hit #7 several years ago after a hot start, but quickly played themselves out of the rankings.

Anyway, the D-3 poll is a beauty contest, and likely a myopic one at best... I'll bet that the vast majority of voters rarely, if ever, see a team outside of their respective regions... They just look at the scores after the fact and go from there, is my guess.

The Elmira weekend to come is big. EC looked utterly abysmal against Oswego early on, but has shown signs of life since then. Utica has to get on top of the cow-bell crew if they are to take the next step up from "near-miss" status. Ergo, any fewer than 3 points this coming weekend will disappoint me, and I personally think UC should take all four of 'em at home.

Lighten up posters...Pioneer#1 is just a very avid fan that Utica should wish they had a thousand of. I'm sure I've wished a team's outstanding player was out for the year also. (not like wishing he was dead) Being a Colgate rooter I'm always happy when a Cornell player is out. Geesh !

The polls mean squat and obviously it's just fun for the fans, unlike the PWR. If I were you guys I'd revel at the fact that this team might be in for "a special season" and stick together for a fun ride. Stay together, enjoy, be happy, nothing like a good hockey team, and sure makes the long winter more pallatible.

Alot of home games coming,(seven of next eight at home with the crowd's it's time !!!

I agree with Prez....and I thought the 10 goal mark was NO CLASS.....just added another...ps a fan should always want to beat another team with their best that way there are no excuses, and hey these are still college kids,as a senior I would have been crushed if I missed my senior season,as Beckwith did last yr..

Ouch. Did you really post that you hoped a kid was injured so bad he wouldn't be able to play? Don't know how else to read this...what are you thinking?

Sorry - I just don't agree that this kind of thought process is OK. As a former player (in this league) I can assure you I never once was "happy" to see a player get carted off the ice - regardless of what jersey they had on.

No. Wishing a serious season-ending injury upon a player of any team in any sport at any level is NEVER acceptable. Under any circumstances. If you're going to say it's okay to do that, are you going to say it's okay to clap and cheer and celebrate when that player DOES go down and gets carted off? Because the two go hand-in-hand. And if you do believe that's okay, then you are a truly sick human being. These are college kids looking to build their futures. They really don't need people wishing for them to receive a life-altering permanent injury at this stage in their lives.

Welcome to DIII hockey, where the PWR is about as meaningful as the USCHO and d3hockey.com polls!

Seriously, it means nothing. The components of W%, SOS, H2H, Common Opponents, and Ranked Opponents are used in the selection of at-large bids for the tournament, but the weighting of those components is subjective, and appears to regularly change in order to save $$ and make more $$ for the NC$$. PWR is just one way to project how the championship committees MIGHT rank teams. Fun, eh? :p

I get that you're just trying to be a really enthusiastic supporter of your team, and I respect that. But comments like these are everything that is wrong with sport. What ever happened to sportsmanship? Beating your opponents by being a better team and having a better game plan? Now it's all about 'We can't beat this guy, I hope he gets seriously hurt'. That just isn't right. There was a time when a guy like Whitelaw would inspire the opponents to push themselves to be even better so that they could compete. Not anymore, apparently.

It's this kind of vitriolic rubbish that leads to things like a San Francisco Giants fan suffering severe brain injury and memory loss after being beaten senseless at an LA Dodgers game, or a fully-grown male Cleveland Browns fan full-on tackling an 8-year-old in a Jets jersey after the game... or a Kansas City Chiefs fan beating a New York Jets fan in NY while screaming "**** NY! You all deserved what happened to you on 9/11!". None of that is acceptable, and neither are comments like yours.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

He said he hoped it was a sprain...then a smiley face laughing or joking. Good Lord ! You guys turn that into "a season ending injury" or cheering while a guy was taken off "in a stretcher" or beating someone up at a game ??? I'm sure he "obviously" didn't mean that !

BTW...What's a 10 goal mark....I missed that ?

"Praying he'd be out for the season"- wouldn't that be a season ending injury?????????

Read his post again...

Sprain/injury = What actually happened.
Season-ending injury = EXACTLY what he said he was praying for.

I get that it was meant as a joke. But it was in really poor taste and those types of jokes should never be acceptable. All I was saying was that the sports mentality that allows those jokes to exist is EXACTLY why incidents like the ones I mentioned occur... Sports has become less about sportsmanship, and more about winning at all costs. That mentality brews hatred. And hatred degrades humanity.

As for the 10-goal mark, he was referring to a common joke on this forum (originating from this 24-0 beat-down RIT put on Neumann in 2002) where we say that any team that has achieved a 10-goal margin or more on their opponent in a single game has "no class". Backdraft was simply trying to point out that jokes/statements like this show how absolutely classless the person making the joke/statement is at that moment.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

While you guys are arguing about injuries and their hypothetical lengths..... i have some actual injury news to pass along.

Doug Marshall- Out at least a week with a hip flexor problem. Unlikely to return to the lineup until after the Amherst

Steve Zappia- Will miss several weeks with a partially torn MCL. He's walking. That's the good news.

With that... it's all hands on deck for UC defensively until those 2 can return. UC now only has 6 available D.

Schmitt-Etts

Baird-Slowikowski

Olivieri-Adams

Knocking on wood that nobody else gets hurt.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Alright, well there's way too many of you to quote, so I'll just address my response you all without replying to each and every one of your post's.

I was kidding, so you all can calm down and take a chill pill.

God forbid one of you guys said the same about a Utica player, and it'd be a completely different story.

Oswego fan's - You all can take a chill pill and relax too. Your beloved Jon Whitelaw got a boo-boo... he's not dead or out of commission and you'll have him for the season (bearing any unforeseen injuries further down the line)

I was simply going for a laugh among the fellow Utica fans in this thread because we all know how much we want to beat Oswego on at their rink this year. Of course I don't wish injury upon a player in any way. I was joking so stop being my parents for like five seconds and think about winning the SUNYAC or getting that free ride you guys get to the NCAA tournament every year.

That's all.

Now have at it.

Everything aside, we plan on going to Saturday's game, how will the ticket situation be? Same as usual, buy it at the gate, or will we be forced to buy them online? I'm going to need 3 of them and that $4.50 "fee" adds up.
