Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

The OD listed the attendance as 3273. The real question is how much was the 50-50? There is usually a string correlation between the two which allows you to predict one based on the other. If it was only $200-230, then your guess of 2300 would be good. If the actual attendance was 3200 then the pot should be about $300 +/-

They announced neither the size of the 50/50 pot nor the attendance... I smell a conspiracy! :D

Not a bad crowd considering the HS football playoff games. I'll be surprised if the crowd isn't bigger tonight.

BTW, just so everyone knows. Educate's last name is pronounced like its Italian. Ed you cah tee. Just a heads upper. BTW offense looked great both nights. D looked great in pressure situations on the breakout and the forecheck was electric all weekend. The educate/gaffney combo is a godsend right now. The one knock on them is that they are undersized, so conference play could be a different beast. But regardless, educate has some excellent hands and gaffney's skill level is a great compliment to that.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Educate was quite a pickup for the Pios. He was a dominant force in a weak league - it will be interesting to see how he fares in the ECAC W.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

His size is the real issue. 5'7. He's a small kid who could get pushed around by some ecac-w teams, but my lord, is he talented.

Plattsburgh's Jared Docking is 5'7 and as of his junior year had 47 points in 68 games - not too shabby.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I was a bit shocked to see how completely UC dominated Fredonia, a veteran-laden team from a solid league.

Utica just played a near-perfect game... The passing and cycling was so much more crisp than it was on Friday, and every line contributed in one way or the other. The team looked a year older and wiser overnight, and so much deeper as well.

Nice to see Slowitkowski back in the lineup. He's probably the most improved player I've ever seen at Utica. Etts had a nice game in his own zone, too. Adams was scratch -don't know why- but that was OK with me... The guy had a hot start last year, but became a defensive liability. He might be better-off moved to forward, a la Morton.

FWIW, I talked to some people about Chlanda. On Friday "it didn't look good", but by Saturday they were saying 2-3 weeks. I hope it isn't too serious an injury; that was one cheap-shot by #3 of Morrisville. That sort of knee-to-knee crap is more egregious than spearing someone in the yarbles, in hockey terms. If that had happened in the NHL, the offender would have been summarily executed on the spot, or at least beaten senseless.

The physical attendance on Saturday was less than on Friday, whatever (inconsistent) numbers ended-up being published here or there. Again, that figure was not announced, but I would estimate about 2,400 actual people showed up. ( And the 50/50 pot was $238, so here's a tip of the hat to you, Badger!)

Thanks for the update on Chlanda. I was wondering what his injury status was. He's an important part of the team this year. He tried to give it a go Friday in the 3rd but went to the locker room shortly thereafter and he was obviously a scratch Saturday. I hope he returns in a few weeks.

There's certainly exceptions. I think Educate has great potential to be one as well, he's got the hands to make up for what he lacks in build and he's decently quick to go along with that.

However, there are some undersized guys who can't weather the storm in a highly physical league like the west. That just is an occasional fact of life and something to be mindful of as we get into ECAC west play next week. It's not likely to happen, but it always could.

Last year Jared survived 2 games each with Morrisville & Castleton - can't get much worse than those two ;)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Last I checked, Evan is likely to play against naz. I will ask around to see what the current situation in, but things aren't as bad as we originally thought.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Well that's good to hear... I wouldn't rush him back, though.

Chlanda has the best hands on the team, but he's a fairly ponderous skater. The various smaller guys who can turn on a dime are probably a better bet in W play, at least until Evan is 100% in a physical sense.

Just my 2 cents.

PS: I may never say it again, but I'll say it now... The officiating was excellent all weekend long.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

is it possible to know id advance the broadcast quality before purchasing the event? Sometimes i buy it and there is no sound or it's in fact a distant sound ..
blah blah blah. will this weekends game against Naz on saturday have a relevant soundtrack??? might have a couple buddies over , in the absence of the
league. if its going to be good... can somebody speculate???

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I saw that Naz is 2-2?
Right out of the gate?
Lets hope that UC CRUSHES Naz....I hate naz....
Friends dont let friends go to Naz!

I am not allowed to hate-on Naz, since one of my good friends just enrolled her offspring there...

Still, I will opine that their two wins thus far are not any more impressive than their two losses are d***ing. They have looked OK so far, and maybe ahead of schedule.

Having said that, my prediction is that a beer-fueled crowd on a Saturday night will contribute to a fairly easy UC win, as long as the Pioneers show up. (And I think they will.)
