US Foreign Policy 3.0: We're The Mets of International Diplomacy

Largest army in NATO.

The West is following a "provocation-based policy" towards Russia, but Moscow should not be underestimated, Turkiye’s president said on Wednesday.

"I can clearly say that I do not find the attitude of the West (towards Russia) right. Because there is a West that follows a policy based on provocation," Erdogan told a news conference with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic in the capital Belgrade.

Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine this February, Turkiye has stressed it is following a “balanced” policy that has yielded dividends, such as the historic deal in Istanbul this July unblocking grain exports from Ukraine.

Erdogan added that it does not seem the Russia-Ukraine war will end "anytime soon," adding: "I say to those who underestimate Russia, you are doing it wrong. Russia is not a country that can be underestimated."

The Turkish president also reiterated Ankara’s balanced policy between Russia and Ukraine to help solve the crisis.

The Turkish policy of keeping lines of diplomacy open with Russia has also resulted in Turkiye hosting the highest-level meetings of officials from Moscow and Kyiv since the war begin.

During Erdogan’s visit – the second stop on a three-nation Balkan tour – Turkiye and Serbia signed seven agreements in such areas as the economy, industry, and technology, including a protocol allowing passport-free travel for nationals on both sides.

Hopefully the US pulls out all the stops to honour the queen. She will be dearly missed in the UK, here, and all over the world.

I could care less about the Queen. My GF is devastated.

Maybe now Britain can live in the 21st century...

I could care less about the Queen...

So you're saying you do care some...

Also, regardless of your feelings on monarchies, she reigned for 70 years through a world war and god only knows what else, and by all accounts did so with dignity and poise. She outlasted 15 PMs and 1/3rd of American history.

So for the next week, don't be that guy. Just sit this one out.

No thanks...I am not telling you how to feel or act so I will kindly ask you to do the same. Don't like my opinion just ignore it. Hell I probably won't say anything anyways beyond this post.

The Queen did her job. I mourn her about as much as I mourn when the leader of any country dies. (not much at all because I have no connection to them) YMMV.

She was not as contemptible as her institution, her house, or her family. As a fellow equal, vulnerable human being, thrown into a purposeless world to make the best of it, I grieve for her mortality.

We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away.

So Charles, Prince of Wales becomes Charles III, Camilla is now Camilla, Queen Consort, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge now becomes Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Cornwall and eventually Prince of Wales?

Fucking Christ how do they keep up with this ****?

There is an entire institution associated with the state of the United Kingdom (not the royal family) which does configuration control on all this stuff in realtime. IINM they're online someplace and keep stuff like the first 10,000 legitimate claimants to the throne.

I think Harry's kids now become princes and princesses as well, as they are grandchildren of the current monarch. Charles III can of course change this.

Also it's House of Mountbatten now not House of Windsor. I don't care what they say. There are rules here.

Precedent being George V changing Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor.

I believe Queen Elizabeth II allowed the kids to use Mountbatten-Windsor (see Harry's kids)

Technically, I think her father reigned through WWII.

Liz took over in 1952.

1910-1936 George 5
1936-1936 Edward 8
1936-1952 George 6

Figuring they kick it at 90, with good free health care:

2022-2038 Charles 3 (currently 74)
2038-2072 William 5 (40)
2072-2103 George 7 (9)
