Bedtime for Bonzo if Ukraine has seized the initiative.

It would indeed be an interesting backdrop leading into November to watch the European wing of the GOP ground into pulp and poured into mass graves. All you Nazis born to lose, Dumputin.

Take Kiev in three days, they said.

It'll be a cake walk, they said.

A senior Pentagon official estimated on Monday, August 8 that as many as 80,000 Russians have been killed or wounded in Ukraine since the war began in late February.

"The Russians have probably taken 70 or 80,000 casualties in less than six months," Under Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl said. Mr. Kahl also said Russian forces have also lost "3,000 to 4,000" armored vehicles, and could be running low on available precision-guided missiles, including air and sea-launched cruise missiles, after firing a large number on Ukraine targets since launching the invasion on February 24.

He said the slowdown in Russian forces' use of longer range and precision-guided missiles was an indicator that their supplies had fallen close to what Moscow needed to hold in reserve for "other contingencies." Those losses are "pretty remarkable considering the Russians have achieved none of Vladimir Putin's objectives at the beginning of the war," he told reporters.

As was predicted by experts a couple of months ago...and there are reports they just lost a bunch of munitions too in the last couple days.

Problem Putin has is he is pot committed now. He cannot walk away from this anymore (earlier he could have negotiated a peace not that he wanted to mind you) so he is basically throwing crap against the wall and hoping it sticks. He is rapidly racing towards Hitler the last year of WWII where the outcome was clear but his ego wouldn't let him accept the inevitable.

I think he's getting old and has the usual elderly aches and pains making him crankier and spurring him on. Maybe there's some truth to the speculation about more serious health problems, but we'll never know for sure.

We will if he dies ;^) (though they will try and hide it Stalin Style)

Man you can just tell the Chinese are ticked off...Putin really screwed their plans for Taiwan.

edit: Looks like the Ukraine is attacking a Russian base in Crimea...

That's going to cause ripples in population charts for a couple generations.

The Russian demography pyramid already looks like a Christmas tree.

So russia has killed or maimed almost 1% of its male breeding-age population. (Quick math, I used 80000 /( 20-44 males % x 145,934459) = 0.7%)

How many they lose in "The Great Patriotic War"? They'll provide incentives for having kids and other means to restock if they Kremlin perceives that they need more soldiers for the Motherland.

It was due to WWII that Russia for the longest time had one of the highest women to male ratios of any country in the world. It was a real problem for them.

China suffered from the opposite ratio, sadly due to their one child policy and the tragic means some families went to who only wanted a son.

It exacerbated an existing problem. Female infanticide was so common in rural China that it's a running joke in British diplomatic reports from China in the 19th century.

Farming communities often exposed their sickly female infants because there was a negative expected value.

To put this in perspective, Russian losses are already 4x to 5x what they lost in Afghanistan.

It would be very interesting to know how much equipment they have left that is actually combat capable. The number of fighters they could get in the air can’t be more than somewhere in the low hundreds.
