Ya, if Mubarak hasn't stepped down by now...why would he step down at all? I think unless the protests slowly dwindle, I don't think the ending will be quiet.

Mubarak told ABC News he would like to resign, but fears the vacuum that would ensue. Step aside, let your new VP take over until the elections. Those can be moved up to this summer. As I've said, he has a legacy that he can be proud of but what's happening now ruins that. He needs to get out.

it looks like our protesters in tahrir are protecting our army from Mubarak's thugs

I know u ppl will think I am exagerating but Tahrir square is the safest place in cairo right now! And it is cozy

The toughest attacks were yesterday and still failed. Everything else today fades in comparison. We're doing great, really.

Aljazeera live shot of Tahrir had to be pulled as it was putting our lives at risk. Will be back up as soon as its safe

I've just walked around Tahrir. No trucks shipping thugs, no people getting slaughtered, and the few thugs on the bridge are bored.

Former Nile TV host Shahira Amin tells the BBC why she quit her job: "We were not allowed to report on what was happening in Tahrir Square."

Quiet in many parts of the city. At home and in Tahrir, many are sleeping, trying to get rest before tomorrow's protests

Sounds like the protest will begin tomorrow morning after morning prayers.

The NYT reports that the US is working behind the scenes to broker a deal to get Mubarak to step down.
The UN has cleared out:

The BBC's Barbara Plett reports on the UN's decision to pull its staff out of Egypt: "The UN has a range of humanitarian and cultural agencies based in Egypt. There've been no attacks on them, but hundreds of non essential staff members and their families have been flown to Cyprus. UN spokesmen said the security situation in Cairo was deemed volatile and unstable; they also said technical problems - such as the government blocking the internet - had made it difficult to work.

It is now just after 4AM in Cairo. Lots of people are still in the Square. There seem to be probing attacks every so often, but nothing serious.

Hopefully the US networks will broadcast after midnight (7AM Cairo) as that is when the activity will pick up again.

So question...Anderson Cooper is reporting from an "undisclosed location." How much of this is needed? Or how much of it is CNN playing up the "Anderson Cooper was attacked and is now underground" angle?

Last Night MSNBC had Brian Williams and Richard Engel reporting from the balcony of their hotel (I believe the Hilton). Anderson is decked out in tan jacket and pants, with a background so you cant figure out where he is. I mean, really? How much of this is needed. Im going to guess he is at the Hilton, just with a sheet across his balcony window.

Probably a little of both. Other networks are broadcasting openly, but some have been attacked, too. It doesn't do a whole lot of good for him to broadcast from a "secret location" with the shades drawn, because he can't see anything that is going on outside. All he has done for 2 hours is show us footage from yesterday. Then again, AJE has a blogger on and the host is trying real hard not to bust out laughing because the guy is (unintentionally) funny. If you listen to what he says, he makes sense, but how he gets there is a riot.
