University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

Re: University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

I saw Meloni's tweet re: Girgensons leaving then Paliotta possibly. What's the deal re: Paliotta.

Sorry to hear this.Tough loss for Vermont and college hockey. I was looking forward to seeing him this year.

At least you didn't loose him to major juniors. Not that it makes any easier to take.

Sorry, guys. I know you were all looking forward to having Girgensons in the fold.

I wouldn't be so sure. This almost sounds like a JT Miller-type deal where he signs a contract with the team that drafts him and then goes to play in the CHL. I don't see him playing for the Sabres right off the bat and not even sure how he'd do in jumping from the USHL to the AHL.

Very tough break for Vermont. Crap deal.

From all reports, he's ready to play pro. As a college hockey fan, I sympathize, but as an Amerks fan, I'm thrilled.

It's almost always better for a young player to get an education before turning pro, but from everything I've read, it doesn't seem like a year or two in Vermont would have helped him develop as a player any more than a year or two in Rochester.

figures, all hope of winning 5 or more games is gone.. as if the student fan base wasn't thinning as is.

Tough lost for Vermont and Hockey East, and all of College Hockey.

There is still no reason they can't play a UML type game and be much better.

That would require UML type talent, a UML type work ethic, a super UML type coach. 0-3 champ, sorry :(

Curious fan here; will Sneddon be on the hot seat this year?
Yeah, I do think he'll be on the hot seat to the extent it's possible for any UVM coach to be on the hot seat. By that I mean I don't think UVM will fire him no matter how bad things get--it's just not gonna happen. But after a dismal 2010-11 season, people were really expecting things to improve. When the team got even worse in 2011-12 there did seem to be some grumbling about Sneddon's coaching ability (or lack thereof), especially since we had a couple of highly touted recruiting classes, and seemingly should have been much better. So I think this season is going to be an important one not only for the team, but for him as well. He's promised to get back to doing some of the things that fueled UVM's success several years ago, which is playing a style of game that may not always be pretty, but seems to be effective. Things like selfless team play, everyone working their butts off on every shift, blocking shots, tight defense, etc. I'm excited for this change and, with the players we have (not super skilled), I think this is the way to go. Leave the flash and highlight reel stuff for team like BC and UNH. We'll see if it works. Like I said, I don't think Sneddon's in danger of being fired, but who knows, if things continue the way they have been, perhaps his contract won't be renewed.

UML talent? Wow. I seem remember UVM in the Frozen Four a few years ago. Not so much about UML.

not sure why some/lots of UML folk have such a haughty attitude:confused: and this from a fan of your team and school and i am somewhat part of the family as my daughter is a senior there this year

Re: University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

only time will tell if this was a good decision.it seems at eighteen the ahl and nhl will still be there down the road--but college hockey won't.you never know-he might have thrived both pysically and emotionally at the college level.it seems rare that kids that play college hockey ever regret their decision.

What part of my statement was untrue?

Excellent point, because I was totally talking about a few years ago. Two years ago Lowell had its worst season in school history. My God, it's almost like things change from year to year! What a concept.

Please don't be offended if I don't take stock in your judgement of talent. You're the same guy who said Miami would have no problem with Lowell. How'd that one work out?

Oh, I see, so we should look at last year alone in determining who has the better hockey program? You know, I was big fan of your team last year and even went on the UML thread several times to offer my congratulations and encouragement. I certainly would never consider going on another team's thread for the sole purpose of kicking them when they're down. Sorry, but you have no class. Zero.
