University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

not sure why some/lots of UML folk have such a haughty attitude:confused: and this from a fan of your team and school and i am somewhat part of the family as my daughter is a senior there this year

Patronick, bottomdweller, and UMLGoon (hmm... iPhone autocorects UMLGoon?!) all grew up together.

Re: University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

Oh, I see, so we should look at last year alone in determining who has the better hockey program? You know, I was big fan of your team last year and even went on the UML thread several times to offer my congratulations and encouragement. I certainly would never consider going on another team's thread for the sole purpose of kicking them when they're down. Sorry, but you have no class. Zero.

Thanks for the kind words re: Lowell. You're a-ok in my book.

Look at the bright side of this disaster: Now that UConn has moved up to the big kid's table, UVM certainly won't be worst in the league. You can scrap it out with Amherst and Northeastern for a respectable 9th place finish. Or, if you look at it another way, since UConn is vacating its spot in Atlantic Hockey, this is a perfect opportunity for UVM to get into a conference where the competition isn't quite so steep, there's no pressure to upgrade your rink (it'll be tops in the league almost), and I don't know about you, but the a Catamount/Yellow Jacket rivalry looks veeeeeerrrryyyyy interesting on paper.

Wait... don't you wish our team could get some of that UML talent, work ethic and coaching?
Hail UML ... the envy of all college hockey programs.

:D :p

This is kind of like Orioles fans making fun of fans of the Red Sox. Sure, they may being having a good year, but rest assured they will be out of contention by half-way through next season.

Which is why UML finished below UVM in 2010-2011, 2008-2009, 2007-2008, 2006-2007, 2005-2006

All but 2 years since UVM joined Hockey East.

Re: University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

Excellent point, because I was totally talking about a few years ago. Two years ago Lowell had its worst season in school history. My God, it's almost like things change from year to year! What a concept.

Please don't be offended if I don't take stock in your judgement of talent. You're the same guy who said Miami would have no problem with Lowell. How'd that one work out?

Upsets happen in the NCAAs. UVM has a much stronger history than Lowell does (or ever will have). This comes from a guy who can't stand UVM either.

Re: University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

I don't blame them for being cranky. Lowell can't be a pleasant place when it's this hot. I can't imagine anyone purposely wanting to spent the summer there.....( or any time of the year that is)

Re: University of Vermont off-season thread, ( Let the Zemgus Girgensons Era Begin! )

As if Girgensons ditching Burlington wasn't a big enough kick in the balls...

Hey, at least you don't have to watch Madore between the pipes anymore.

True that. Hopefully one of the freshmen can step up and play like Madore when he was a freshman.

God, let’s not compare the Cats to the sox, that is a horrible analogy. Even the O’s have won 4 world series since they came in the league in 54, the sox have maybe 2 in over 75 years, I’m just sayin, let’s give the Cats al little more credit

Two in eight years, or three in 94 years. :)

Ya, that's not good, I prefer the the "finishing ahead of them in all but two years in Hockey East" better! I do wish Micheletto all the best, he is a class act. Any ideas on a replacement???

That wasn't an upset, at least not to anyone who knows a thing about college hockey. But still, excellent prediction!

And since taking your opinion on things hasn' worked so well in the past, I decided to look up both schools NCAA history - ya know, just for giggles.

Vermont: D1 (39 seasons) - 5 NCAA appearances. D2 (10 seasons) - 0 NCAA appearances.
Lowell: D1 (28 seasons) - 4 NCAA appearances. D2 (17 seasons) - 5 NCAA appearances, 3 National Titles

Once again, spot on. That extra NCAA appearance in 11 more seasons (completley dismissing the Division 2 stuff) is as total and complete domination as I've seen. Astounding. Seriously, I had to take a knee after reading those stats. I should have been genuflecting to Vermont all this time.

As for head-to-head, Lowell leads 10-9-4 since Vermont came into Hockey East. (neither team being able to sweep the other during each team's historically bad season btw, which I found amusing)

I guess we'll see where the teams stand this season on Oct. 12, when Vermont opens up the regular season in Lowell.

With John gone. (And with all the bad news of late) I sure hope to god that Sneddon reaches out to Aaron Miller to be his asst.
I listened to a fair number of games on the radio last season, and he really seems to understand the problems that exist, should be able to help get the train back on the track. You would have to be a complete thick head not to listen to a ex NHL player with his kinda rep.

Be nice, and leave them alone! We have plenty to look forward to ourselves, let's focus on that. :)

At least one Lowell fan has the right idea. Patronick OTOH is a very "good winner" and an obnoxious loser. Perhaps he has special personal problems. I don't know him except for the nastiy attitude he displays while posting.

As a Northeastern fan, I would suggest that Lowell should not count its chickens before they hatch. We've had lots of good seasons that left us looking forward to the following year. We won 25 games in 2009-10 and started the next season flat and never caught up. Last season we looked forward to an terrific group of returnees and our best recruiting class ever. Then it all fell apart after Cronin left.

For the UVM faithful, the NU fans can absolutely empathize with you concerning the loss of Girgenson. At least you know your recruiters are fishing in the right spots. If they keep doing that, they'll land enough good ones that can be molded into a competitive team.

At least you won't have to deal with having Girgenson in your goalie's face the way we had to deal with Gaudreau.:(

This is about the only thing you've said that makes any sense. These arguments are best settled the one place that counts -- on the ice!

I agree, Aaron Miller would be a great choice! I believe he lives in the Burlington area and is otherwise available to do it, right?
