Gerbe (eats baby food) played 3 at BC as a BUFF 5th rounder.
Some kid named Miller played 3 at MSU before BUFF signed him.

Hope you guys get him next year. During the NHL Network telecast, they seemed luke warm at best he'd ever show up. Seems like a good kid.

BC fans also would love to see the Latvian playing in Burlington next year. However, this quote from the cover story on USCHO tells me not to get overconfident:


While Vermont is his plan for next year, he said he feels he’s already set to step right into the NHL.

“People tell me I can play in the NHL and I think I’m ready to play in the NHL,” Girgensons said.

Word out of Buffalo is not favorable for us Cat fans. girgensons thinks he is ready to play in the NHL and Buffalo thinks they want one of their two early picks playing in the NHL this coming season. I do not see it yet in the press but am told the Sabres have made a strong contract offer. he probably would have been one and done anyways so disappointing but not surprising that we are unlikely to see him next season. It's too bad he could not have gotten in academically this past year.

And this morning his Twitter says he is flying in to Burlington this evening (Monday) to start strength and conditioning... let's hope he stays...

Good move to put some pressure on Buffalo to up the ante on the offer. But I hope he sticks for one season. Two would be a bonus but probably not going to happen.

watched zemgus play while with theglades when he just turner 16 and he was the best player on the ice for either team.after two years in the ushl,i can't imagine how much he has improved.

Gotta say I would be more then surprised if Zemgus does not show up. Per his twitter, @NHLGossip asked him if he would be in Buffalo next year, his reply simply Vermont. Altnhough when he goes to Buffalo's camp they Also, he is on campus working out. I've seen him, Brickley, McCarthy, Lenz and others around. They all seem like laser beams, working out, skating and really bonding. Could be special. Also, the schedule is out. http://http://uvmathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=mhockey. I read those tweets differently. He mentioned a guy with a funny name had been paged for his flight. The other person, knowing he was at the airport, asked if he was flying to Buffalo. He replied "Vermont." Thus, I don't think the tweets had anything to do with where he's going to play hockey.

I do agree, however, that he'll be playing for UVM this season.

Gotta love the competititon that is "Hockey East" UNH, BU & BC for the last 6 games to close the season.... This team needs to start the season strong!

Thanks for the link, although it's not all that encouraging:

Yikes! I think it'll be a minor miracle if we get him for this year. Two years or more is probably too much to ask.

I 'm thinking anytime before Sabres open camp.... Selfishly, I do hope he comes to UVM. I 'd love to see him suit up vs. the Gophers for their Nov. trip to the Gut.

Despite the options that lay ahead of Girgensons, Montgomery strongly believes that he’s ready for the NHL right now.

“If Zemgus has the belief that he can accomplish something, and there’s a challenge in front of him, then he’s going to attack it.”

So it comes down to what Buffalo wants him to do. Strive to make the team and either make it or end up in AHL or come to UVM for one year. Buffalo has had their share of D1 kids but IIRC they were drafted out of school, not before entering. MacKenzie was a Buffalo pick but nowhere near the level of Girgensons.

If he shows up at UVM we can count our blessings, but I would not plan on it happening. And if it does it's one and done (assuming no injury).

And we won't know until he signs or shows up in class unless he tweets his intentions if and when they change.

I suggest you all imagine life without him (remember last year) so as not to be disappointed if we don't get what we want.
