University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Talk about sandbagging. Being overly doubtful in guessing the games, I still have 7-5. I wavered on two series (in the 7-5, I split the Alaskas and split the BSU series, where I should think sweep for UND). So, thinking normally, I have you at 9-3.

Tough schedule to be sure, but I think you guys are preparing for the flood a little early.

with how the Sioux have played over the past few seasons, I don't think we're sandbagging at all. They have clearly shown under Hak that they are a 2nd half team. Why should we expect this team to be any different? I don't think they are going to steamroll anyone early on.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Can't wait to hear all the crying on here when Rocco bolts for the WHL!:D

You mean like Gopher fans do when any player leaves? UND fans are happy for players or don't care, Gopher fans on the other hand do nothing but badmouth players that leave. How dare they leave the Minnesota Gophers! They suck and players like him are why the Gophers haven't won!

I said nothing about steamrolling. ;)

Those 9 wins could all be 3-2 games.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

It certainly is a possibility. But I'm not too concerned either way. If he bolts, then UND will just reload with another forward who is more committed to the program.

Why, will you cry should he decide to come to UND as expected next fall? :D
Exactly. There are always more very talented players who would love to play for the Sioux. The way Grimaldi talks he would only be here for 1 year anyways,2 tops.No big deal if he bolts.

If Grimaldi makes it to the UND campus, I wouldn't be surprised if UND got 3 (or maybe even 4 years) out of him. He's very talented...but he's also only 5'6".
I picture him being like a Gerbe from BC.

I read that article that talked about him wanting to be in the NHL in 1-2 years, but I don't think that's realistic. It might have been taken out of context too. Who knows? I guess we won't know for sure if he's going to UND until this time next year. :)

This is true.I have heard the Gerbe comparison before which is nice to hear.

Will a stiff wind knock Rocco off his feet like it did Gerbe?

Expect to see more recruits in the future from the "Golden State of Hockey".

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/10689/california_the_golden_state_of_hockey_part1/

California has become one of the fastest growing hockey regions in the country. Since the late 1990s, the state has produced and sent many players on to leagues such as the NCAA, the Canadian Major Juniors as well as to the professional ranks, including the NHL.

And there are many more on the way.

On average, parents in California pay anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 per year for their sons to play organized youth hockey at the highest levels. Much of the cost is in travel. (Air travel to tournaments in Canada and the Midwest.)

Here's an article from the Herald on Rylan Kaip:

Kaip signs with Houston
Posted on September 8, 2010 by Brad Schlossman
Former UND captain Rylan Kaip has signed a one-year contract with the Houston Aeros of the AHL. Houston is the minor league affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.

The Atlanta Thrashers draft pick played two seasons with their AHL team, the Chicago Wolves. His first pro game was against the Aeros in 2008.

Kaip, 26, was a restricted free agent this offseason. Atlanta declined to send a qualifying offer. Kaip is known for his toughness and leadership.

The blog writer for the Penticton Vees BCHL team did a top 12 reasons to be pumped for this season.
His #1 and #2 reasons were future Sioux recruits:

http://pentictonvees.podbean.com/2010/09/09/12-reasons-to-be-pumped-about-the-vees/

#1 - Mark MacMillan
Drafted last summer by the Montreal Canadiens (you may be familiar with their 24 Stanley Cups), MacMillan returns to the BCHL as the highest scoring playing from last season. While he’ll be without older brother Mitch (St. Cloud State) and David Dziurzynski (who should suit up for the Binghamton Senators this year) - his line mates from last season - MacMillan will line up as the Vees top centre this year and will have oodles of talent at his disposal to his left and right. Mark’s blend of skill and grit earned him the Coastal Conference Rookie of the Year nod last season as the centre of the most feared line in the Coastal Conference.

#2 - Brendan O’Donnell
With the risk of sounding like a huge Sioux fan, Brendan O’Donnell has to be #2. Yes, I know back-to-back UND recruits off the top of the list may make me look like a Grand Forks native, that aside, this kid can play! Drafted by Tampa Bay in the 6th round, named to Team Canada West at last year’s World Jr. ‘A’ Challenge, playing in the CJHL Prospects Game last season… O’Donnell arrives from the Winnipeg South Blues with plenty of accolades and expectations. He won’t let you down.

Lots of future WCHA players on the team...a few SCSU, UW, etc.

What would be a reasonable points projection for Gregoire and Frattin this coming season? I'm expecting both to produce well.

I wouldn't be surprised if they both get 40-50 points this upcoming season.
Gregoire was at 37pts last season, and Frattin was at 19pts (only played the 2nd half).

With both of them projected to be on the PP lines, and Genoway back, I think their PP numbers go up as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see Frattin lead the team in goals.
