University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

I wouldn't be surprised if they both get 40-50 points this upcoming season.
Gregoire was at 37pts last season, and Frattin was at 19pts (only played the 2nd half).

With both of them projected to be on the PP lines, and Genoway back, I think their PP numbers go up as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see Frattin lead the team in goals.

Agreed. Gregoire went from 29 points (12g, 17a) as a Freshman to 37 (20g, 17a) as a Sophomore. If that trend continues we'll see something along the lines of 45-50 points with about 25 goals.

As far as Frattin is concerned, he had 15 points as a Freshman (4g, 11a), bumped that up to 25 points as a Sophomore (13g, 12a), and then had 19 points in 24 games last year (11g, 8 a). If he improves along that trend, he'll wind up with about 40-45 points, and about 20-25 goals.

IF, and obviously that is a big if, those guys put up those numbers we're going to have probably our best regular season since '03-'04. Especially when you consider the other guys coming back and their potential...

Genoway (began last season with 10 points in 9 games, and scored all 4 of his goals on the powerplay. If he can come close to that for a season, that would put him at about 15-30-45)
Kristo (15-21-36 last year, it's not out of the realm for him to improve to 20-25-45 his sophomore year)
Hextall (26 points in each of his 2 seasons thus far, entirley possible for him to put up 15-15-30)
Knight (came on strong at the end of last season, finished with 13 points, would like to see a little more improvement into the 10-10-20 category)
Trupp (put up 34 points last season, coming on strong at the end of the year, could easily put up 10-30-40)

From those 7 players, if they hit these, imo reasonable, expectations, that would bring in 115 goals from these 7 guys. Add in players like Malone, Lamoureaux, and Nelson (not to mention some of our D-men who can put it in the back of the net), and I think we have a very good chance of blowing the 140 goals we put in the back of the net last season out of the water.

Of course, this requires staying healthy and living up to expectations :)

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Yeah, the depth at both forward and defense from this year's Sioux team is quite good...better than any of the last few years.
If this team can stay healthy and focused, we could see a special team with some hardware at the end of the season.
Plus, there should hopefully be some extra motivation with it being the last season of "Fighting Sioux" UND hockey...

I can't even imagine what next year's roster is going to look like. I have a feeling that there will be quite a few early departures after this year...

I can't see any of the major players putting up numbers less than what you have posted. Gregoire and Fratttin will need to work hard to improve on their numbers. Genoway, Kristo, Knight, Hextall and Trupp are going to put up some nice improvements over last year. This could be a great year.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

I don't expect as big a leap out of Gregoire, although I'd like to see it. He already got a lot of quality time on the pp last year, and I don't see that moving up that much.

What I'd really like to see out of Matt F this year is consistency. Ever since arriving in GF he has been a really streaky player. 8 games without so much as an assist, then he pops a goal and will get 7 in 7 games. Next thing you know, he disappears for 7-8 games. With the quality time he should see this year the team can't afford for that to happen.

The guy I'm anxious to watch is Kristo. I'd really like to see him dominate this year. He is the one guy we have with no limit to his upside. He's got the confidence and he's going to see a lot of ice time.

NHL.com article on VandeVelde:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=537533

Vande Velde speaks highly of his time as a member of the Fighting Sioux.

"It definitely teaches you to be a tough player," he said. "That’s what you need to play in the NHL. They do it the right way there. Dave Hakstol is a great guy and a great coach and he definitely knows how to lead a team."

While many players are rushed along to get to the professional ranks, the Oilers weren't in a hurry to yank their 2005 pick from such the UND hockey factory.

"As far as UND, we all know it's a fantastic college," Sillinger said. "They groom their players for the National Hockey League. Organizationally, we're excited about that."

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

More testimonial evidence of the superb quality of the UND hockey factory.
Here is a summary of the accolades.

UND ... obviously ... a great program

a hard-nosed, intimidating team that places a premium on winning

the route to the NHL from Grand Forks is well documented

teaches you to be a tough player ... what you need to play in the NHL ... They do it the right way there

Dave Hakstol is a great guy ... great coach ... definitely knows how to lead a team

weren't in a hurry to yank their ... pick from ... the UND hockey factory

we all know it's a fantastic college...they groom their players for the National Hockey League ... we're excited about that

The best thing about the soon to be BTHC - It's 2 less times a year our great state of MN is infested by hicks from the north coming to town on their artic cats. No more games at Mariucci and I'd be willing to bet the X will no longer host the WCHA Final 5! :p gotta love it!

Yeah, you can schedule teams you can beat when you aren't required to play North Dakota. Like RIT and NMU.

Gophers could try to schedule hockey games against North Dakota State, South Dakota, or Wyoming to try to take vengeance or exact satisfaction for losses in other sports.

Two less losses per year for the Gophers?

You're just as clueless about the BTHC as you are with other subjects. :p :)

Actually we are from the west retard. Minnesota is actually more north than North Dakota.
