University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

If so, then the Gofers 1960 Football Championship does not count either...they went 8-2 and their second loss was to a team that had a better record than them in the Rose Bowl...the final poll back then came out BEFORE the bowl games...

I've talked to a Gopher fan who told me that none of the Sioux's championships should count...I forgot all the reasons cause I don't listen to illogical people (except Dirty), but I remember he said '59 and '63 shouldn't count since no championship won before 1974 mattered (because of the fact that there weren't that many teams back them or some *t like that). '80 shouldn't count because 1/2 of Minnesota was off winning a gold medal in Lake Placid. To that one, I was able to retort that the best player on the team was from Wisconsin, the two best D-men were from North Dakota and BU, respectively, and the goalie that kept team USA in the Miracle game was from BU. Furthermore, I reminded him there were 4 guys on the roster from BU and I've never heard a BU fan say the Sioux's 80 championship shouldn't count.

What made me laugh was Happy once discounted all of Minnesota's titles in a post. It had to do something about if a player isn't from the US/Minnesota then that team's title should not count. We went back and looked at each of Minnesota's title teams and they all had players from "illegal" places. Apparently nobody should win the title :p:D:D

The guy was a lunatic (UND won their titles fair and square), but you can't say with a straight face that the '80 Gophers team wasn't the hardest hit by the Olympics.

Yeah sure, remind me that now the Sioux are lining up recruits that weren't even born when I was in college. :p :D
It happens rock boy. :D I've been suffering this for some time now.
I hate winter, but so jacked for the season to start.

Perhaps the hardest hit yes, but it doesn't mean they would have won the National Title that season.

That's what he's saying. He validated the 80 championship, but we need to recognize that they were the hardest hit in regards to players lost. If he was agreeing with the other joker I'd say argue away.

Season tickets have arrived. They may have went up a 100 bucks but they are priceless to me.It's going to be a special season boys.

No, you are wrong.

Oh it'll be "special" alright. (forgive the cheap joke, I'm a little drained right now; FFL draft, 4 hours live). :o

“There were about 20 schools that had called and talked to me,” Rowe said. “But I’ve always wanted to go to North Dakota.”
:D

I am sure that also having UND alumni Jonathan Toews captain the Blackhawks to a stanley cup victory did not hurt UND's recruiting efforts there. But actually it sounds like UND "had him at Hello". :D

Seems like good timing for UND to strengthen its ties to Illinois hockey.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

What if the Sioux ran the table and the gophs went winless this year?

One or the other is likely, but is expecting both too much to ask?

Gophers were by far the hardest hit (9 players on a 20 man team, the next closest was BU with 4) but that doesn't guarantee the Gophers would have won the championship in '80. Not only that, but it didn't guarantee the Sioux were a lock for the championship in '80.

Technically it was 7 players for MN and 2 for BU. Eruzione and O'Callahan had already graduated from BU. Phil Verchota had graduated from MN and Buzz Schneider hadn't played for the Gophers since 1975. But the fact that MN had lost it's head coach for that season made their losses the greatest.

UND is definitely a Frozen Four team. Probably going to lose to BC again, but a Frozen Four team anyways...:D
